[OVERVIEW]

Drifblim's niche in the PU metagame lies with its ability Unburden, which allows it to outspeed almost the entire metagame after activating its item, including all Choice Scarf users slower than Choice Scarf Dodrio. This makes Drifblim a unique choice for a sweeper. Drifblim has a solid STAB attack in Acrobatics, and many of the common switch-ins to Acrobatics are bothered by Will-O-Wisp and Hex, making Drifblim an effective support Pokemon as well. Unfortunately, while Drifblim's typing gives it key immunities, it also leaves it with very exploitable weaknesses to common Pokemon like Froslass, Lycanroc, and Skuntank. Drifblim's mediocre offensive stats mean it can often lack power and is fairly useless before activating its Berry, and it struggles to break through common Pokemon like Alolan Persian, Mudsdale, and Oricorio-E even after the Unburden boost. It also faces competition with other Flying-type attackers, such as Dodrio and Oricorio-G, which have more immediate offensive capabilities.

[SET]
name: Acrobatics + Hex

move 4: Hex
item: Sitrus Berry
ability: Unburden
nature: Naughty
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Acrobatics is Drifblim's main attacking move and is relatively strong after Sitrus Berry activates. Substitute provides a reliable way for Drifblim to cut its health and activate Sitrus Berry, as well as take advantage of its unique combination of immunities and resistances to get a free turn. This also makes it harder for Pokemon like Ice Shard Abomasnow to revenge kill it. Will-O-Wisp lets Drifblim cripple physical attackers like Skuntank, play around Sucker Punch, and increase the Base Power of Drifblim's Hex. Hex provides a way for Drifblim to hit Pokemon that resist Flying and takes advantage of status conditions spread by either Drifblim itself or its teammates.

Set Details
========

The given EVs allow Drifblim to maximize its Attack and Speed so it has the chance to Speed tie with neutral-natured base Speed 80 Pokemon before Unburden. Alternatively, you can cut down the Speed to 176 EVs, which still let Drifblim outspeed Choice Scarf Primeape after Unburden, and put the remaining EVs in either Special Attack or defenses. 4 HP EVs allow Drifblim to activate Sitrus Berry after switching into Stealth Rock or setting up Substitute twice.

Usage Tips
========

Drifblim is usually used in either a support or a sweeping role. When facing a frailer, offensive team, Drifblim is generally best when saved for the end of the game to attempt a sweep with Unburden. Bring Drifblim in when its checks and counters, such as Lanturn and Lycanroc, have been worn down so that Drifblim can attempt to finish off a team with its Unburden-boosted Speed and Acrobatics. Against bulky offensive or balanced teams, Drifblim can often put more work earlier in the game. It should be used to support the team by spreading status and annoying teams with its unique coverage, such as wearing down Pokemon like Regirock and Skuntank with Will-O-Wisp to make it easier for other teammates to sweep. If Stealth Rock is on the field, bringing Drifblim in once earlier on in a game is a good idea, as this will allow it to activate Sitrus Berry automatically the second time you bring it in. Drifblim should rarely switch directly into an attack; to get into the field, Drifblim should generally take advantage of its typing to set a Substitute on defensive Pokemon like Quagsire or Pokemon locked into an unfavorable move, such as Close Combat from Choice Scarf Primeape.

Team Options
========

Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters such as Froslass and Qwilfish are helpful to using Drifblim optimally. Toxic Spikes in particular pairs amazingly well with Drifblim's Hex and allows it to stall turns using Substitute. Froslass can also cripple common checks to Drifblim like Skuntank and Regirock with Will-O-Wisp or use Destiny Bond to get rid of them. Status users are important for boosting the power of Hex, as Drifblim may often not want to waste a turn spreading status itself, and crippling bulky Pokemon for Drifblim to take advantage of. Rotom-F and Jellicent are two fellow users of Will-O-Wisp that can support Drifblim, while Poliwrath and Regirock are common Toxic users that pair well with Drifblim. Regirock can additionally provide Drifblim with Stealth Rock support and check Skuntank, while Poliwrath deals with many common Drifblim checks including Mudsdale, Alolan Sandslash, Alolan Persian, and Regirock. Wallbreakers are appreciated to break down bulky Drifblim checks and counters. Aurorus can break through walls like Regirock and Gastrodon with its powerful Blizzard, and Calm Mind Mesprit is able to lure and take out Pokemon like Skuntank and Aggron. Drifblim appreciates Pokemon that can switch into several attacks it is weak to. Hitmonchan is a great example, as it can switch into many Ice-, Rock-, and Dark-type moves from Pokemon such as Aurorus and Alolan Persian. Lanturn and Mudsdale are other Pokemon that cover many of Drifblim's weaknesses. Lanturn can also bring Drifblim onto the field safely via Volt Switch, while Mudsdale can provide Stealth Rock support and cripple foes with Toxic, which boosts Drifblim's Hex. Drifblim also should be paired with fellow sweepers, since it is used mainly on highly offensive teams. Lilligant and Choice Scarf Primeape are two examples of sweepers that appreciate the support Drifblim provides.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Calm Mind sets are an option that allow Drifblim to boost its Special Attack to dangerous levels by setting up multiple times on more passive Pokemon like Tangela. This set can run Hidden Power Fighting to hit Alolan Sandslash and Aurorus. However, it lacks immediate power and struggles with its inability to threaten Skuntank. Liechi Berry can lift Drifblim's Attack stat to allow it to achieve more KOs, but it also is more difficult to activate safely due to the requirement to cut Drifblim's health down to 25% and cannot be activated after switching into Stealth Rock only twice. Aguav Berry heals a higher amount than Sitrus Berry but faces the same problems as Liechi Berry. Destiny Bond is an option over Hex that can act as a surprise lure to take down Pokemon like Aggron from full health.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-types**: Rock-type Pokemon such as Regirock, Lycanroc, Aggron, Aurorus, and Kabutops take little damage from Acrobatics and can KO Drifblim with their respective STAB moves. Will-O-Wisp and Hex annoy most of these Pokemon but they still should nearly always beat Drifblim unless severely worn down. Regirock in particular takes little damage from any move, and Lycanroc can outpace even Drifblim's Unburden with its priority Accelerock.

**Electric-types**: Electric-type Pokemon such as Lanturn, Oricorio-E, Rotom-F, and Eelektross can easily switch into Drifblim's Acrobatics while threatening it with their Electric-type STAB attacks. Oricorio-E in particular fears little from Drifblim, since it has recovery to shrug off its attacks, and along with Rotom-F can possibly Defog away any entry hazards that might help a Drifblim sweep.

**Bulky Pokemon and Walls**: Drifblim fares poorly against most Pokemon with high defenses, due to its relatively mediocre offensive capabilities. Pokemon like Audino and Articuno can recover against any attack Drifblim has and beat it in a one-on-one scenario. Other Pokemon like Mudsdale, Alolan Sandslash, and Alolan Persian can be annoyed by Drifblim due to lack of recovery and Will-O-Wisp but are but still too bulky for Drifblim to take down by itself.

**Super Effective Coverage**: Drifblim has numerous common weaknesses that are very exploitable, especially before Unburden activates. Ice Beam from the likes of Jynx and Froslass and Knock Off from Alolan Raticate or Shiftry are just a few examples of super effective moves that can easily threaten Drifblim. Super effective priority moves in the form of Skuntank's Sucker Punch and Kecleon's Shadow Sneak are annoying too. Although Drifblim can play around Sucker Punch with Will-O-Wisp, any Sucker Punch user still forces Drifblim into a coinflip between attacking and clicking status.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Drifblim's niche in the PU metagame lies with its unique Ability Unburden, which allows it to outspeed entire teams after activating its item of choice and a solid STAB option in Acrobatics. it's not precisely unburden+acro, it's more that ur specifically a sweeper that is gonna be faster than all the scarfers n stuff and unburden plays into that, with acro being its own separate point
  • Drifblim pairs exceptionally well with hazards support, especially Toxic Spikes. yeah but idk how overview-worthy this is
  • Can annoy teams with its access to Will-O-Wisp and Hex. Many of the common switch-ins to Acrobatics are bothered by Will-o-Wisp.
  • Drifblim has an interesting set of resists and immunities that allow it to take advantage of pokemon like Primeape and Lurantis.
  • Unfortunately, this same typing is a double-edged sword, leaving it with very exploitable weaknesses to common offensive types like Ice, Rock, and Electric. dark is more worth a special shoutout since u can have fun sucker games w/wisp
  • Neither Drifblim's offensive or defensive base stats are all that high. This means it often lacks in power to sweep teams and can struggle to stick around with its middling bulk.
  • Drifblim does face competition with other Flying-type attackers, especially Oricorio-G, who shares its typing. While Drifblim's unique ability and access to Will-o-Wisp lets it differentiate itself, it is often more preferable to use more straightforward attackers who are more useful without having to activate Unburden.
none of this is rly wrong but there's a decent amount of fluff and I don't get a great idea of why I'm using blimp. I'd like it to focus more in on the core points- unburden is good, it's unique and can be hard to deal with, but ur not that strong and it takes work to support and set up

this can definitely get shortened in writeup with our push to eliminate a lot of the fluff in analyses, nothing is wrong here though and it's hard to change anything in bullets, it's more of a writeup thing

  • EVs allow Drifblim to maximize its Attack and Speed so it has the chance to Speed Tie with neutral-natured base Speed 80 pokemon before Unburden

Drifblim can wear down pokemon like Regirock and Skuntank with Will-O-Wisp, making it easier for other teammates to sweep. make sure to tie this into the above point clearly, that this is how u play it differently when ur facing a bulkier team
  • Or, bring Drifblim in when its checks and counters, such as Togedemaru and Lycanroc, have been worn down so that Drifblim can attempt to finish off a team with its Unburden-boosted speed and Acrobatics. Setting as many hazards as possible is early in the game will make it easier for Drifblim to achieve the OHKOs and 2HKOs it wants later on.
  • If Stealth Rocks are on the field, bringing Drifblim once earlier on in a game is a good idea as this will allow you to activate Sitrus Berry automatically the second time you bring it in.

Oricorio-Pom Pom is another example of an Electric-type that fears little from Drifblim and can even Taunt it from using status attacks. i don't think taunting blimp is super relevant to beating it, blimp is ideally unburden'd up and not trying to wisp a faster pompom

  • Calm Mind sets are an option that allow Drifblim to boost its special attack to dangerous levels by setting up multiple times on more passive pokemon like Tangela. However, this set lacks immediate power and struggles with its inability to threaten Skuntank.
  • Liechi Berry can lift Drifblim's Attack stat to dangerous levels, but also is more difficult to activate safely due to having to cut Drifblim's health down to 25% and cannot be activated after switching into Stealth Rocks only twice. (is + 1 coming off of base 80 atk really considered dangerous? i would rephrase this a bit)
  • Aguav Berry heals a higher amount than Sitrus but faces the same problems as Liechi Berry.
  • Destiny Bond is an option over Hex that can act as a surprise lure to take down pokemon like Aggron from full health.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-types**: Rock-type pokemon such as Regirock, Lycanroc, Aggron, Aurorus and Kabutops take little damage from Acrobatics and can KO Drifblim with their respective Rock STAB moves. Will-o-Wisp and Hex annoy most of these pokemon but they still should nearly always beat Drifblim unless severely worn down. Regirock in particular takes little damage from any move, and Lycanroc can outpace even Drifblim's Unburden with its Accelrock priority. (most lycanroc run sucker now but this point should still be fine)

**Electric-types**: Electric-type pokemon such as Lanturn, Togedemaru, and Eelektross can easily switch into Drifblim's Acrobatics while threatening Drifblim with their Electric-type STAB. While Togedemaru fears Will-O-Wisp, Lanturn and Eelektross can switch into Drifblim without repurcussion. Oricorio-Pom Pom is another example of an Electric-type that fears little from Drifblim and has recovery to shrug off its attacks. (maybe something on how defensive pom-pom sets with defog can get rid of hazards, meaning that drif can have a harder time sweeping since it tends to rely on entry hazards

**Bulky Pokemon and Walls**: Drifblim fares poorly against most pokemon with high defenses, due to its relatively mediocre offensive capabilities. Pokemon like Audino and Articuno can recover against any attack Drifblim has and beat it in a 1v1 scenario. Other pokemon like Mudsdale and Persian-Alola can be annoyed by Drifblim due to lack of recovery are but still too bulky for Drifblim to take down by itself.

**Super-Effective Coverage**: Drifblim has numerous common weaknesses and they are very exploitable, especially pre-Unburden. Ice Beam from the likes of Jynx and Froslass and Knock Off from Alolan-Raticate or Scyther are just a few examples of super-effective moves that can easily threaten Drifblim. Super-Effective priority in the form of Sucker Punch and Shadow Sneak. (need to expand a bit on this sentence cuz it doesnt rly make sense. was it suppose to be merged with the prevous sentence? im confused) Although Drifblim can play around Sucker Punch with Will-O-Wisp, any Sucker Punch user still forces Drifblim into a coinflip between attacking and clicking status. (yeah seems like you expanded here so i'd delete the previous sentence)

This makes Drifblim a unique choice for a sweeper. Drifblim's mediocre offensive stats means it can often lack in power and is fairly useless before activating its Berry, and it struggles with common pokemon like Persian-Alola, Mudsdale, and Oricorio-E even after activating it. Acrobatics is Drifblim's main attacking move and is relatively strong after Unburden activates. Substitute provides a reliable way for Drifblim to cut its health and activate Sitrus Berry, as well as take advantage of its unique immunities and resistances to get a free turn. (also makes it harder for mons like scarf dodrio to revenge kill it)Will-O-Wisp lets Drifblim cripple physical attackers like Aggron(not the best example imo, go for something like skunk and mention how WoW can play around Sucker Punch) and will increase the base power of Drifblim's Hex. Hex provides a way for Drifblim to hit Flying-resists and takes advantage of status conditions spread by either Drifblim itself or its teammates.

EVs allow Drifblim to maximize its Attack and Speed so it has the chance to Speed Tie with neutral-natured base Speed 80 pokemon before Unburden. Alternately, you can cut down the speed to 176 Speed, which still outspeeds Scarf Togedemaru after Unburden and put the remaining EVs in either Special Attack or defenses. 30 HP IVs (change to 4 HP EVs)allows Drifblim to switch into Stealth Rock (and/or set up sub)twice and activate Sitrus Berry.

========

Drifblim is usually used in either a support or sweeping role. Drifblim can wear down pokemon like Regirock and Skuntank with Will-O-Wisp, making it easier for other teammates to sweep. Or, bring Drifblim in when its checks and counters, such as Togedemaru and Lycanroc, have been worn down so that Drifblim can attempt to finish off a team with its Unburden-boosted speed and Acrobatics. (move this before the bulky team point, since this is its main goal)If Stealth Rocks are on the field, bringing Drifblim once earlier on in a game is a good idea as this will allow you to activate Sitrus Berry automatically the second time you bring it in. Drifblim should rarely switch directly into an attack. To get into the field, Drifblim should generally take advantage of its typing to set a Substitute on defensive pokemon like Quagsire or pokemon locked into an unfavorable move, such as Close Combat from Scarf Primeape.

Team Options
========

Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters such as Froslass (double ghost? replace with like omastar or roselia)and Qwilfish are crucial (crucial is kinda an overstatement)to using Drifblim optimally. Qwilfish additionally can set Toxic Spikes, which pair amazingly well with Drifblim's Hex and allows it to stall turns using Substitute. Froslass also cripples common checks to Drifblim like Skuntank and Regirock with Will-o-Wisp,(froslass was taken out, so remove. not to mention this is already kinda what drifblim does with WoW) or can use Destiny Bond to get rid of them. Wallbreakers such as Aggron and Aurorus are great options to power through walls and break through bulky teams, leaving them easier for Drifblim to clean up. Status users are crucial (again the use of the work crucial makes it kinda an overstatment)to boosting the power of Hex as Drifblim may often not want to waste a turn using status itself, and cripple bulky pokemon for Drifblim to take advantage of. Froslass again,(again, wouldnt use it with drifblim) and Weezing are two examples of fellow users of Will-o-Wisp that can support Drifblim, while Poliwrath and Regirock are common Toxic users that pair well with Drifblim. Regirock can additionally provide Drifblim with Stealth Rock support and check Skuntank, while Poliwrath deals with many common Drifblim checks including Mudsdale, Sandslash-Alola, Persian-Alola, and Regirock. Pokemon that can break down bulky Drifblim checks and counters are appreciated.(this is the p much same thing as wallbreakers, remove) One example is Calm Mind Mesprit, which is able to lure pokemon like Skuntank and Aggron. (you can add this on to the earlier wallbreakers point or just remove)Drifblim appreciates pokemon that can switch into several of its weaknesses. Hitmonchan is a great example as it can switch into many Ice, Rock, and Dark-type moves from pokemon such as Aurorus and Persian-Alola. Lanturn and Mudsdale are other examples of pokemon that cover many of Drifblim's weaknesses. Lanturn can also bring Drifblim onto the field safely via Volt Switch while Mudsdale can provide Stealth Rock support and cripple foes with Toxic, which benefits Drifblim's Hex. Drifblim also should be paired with fellow sweepers since it is used mainly on highly offensive teams. Choice Scarf Primeape and Z-Lovely Kiss Jynx are two examples of sweepers that appreciate the support Drifblim provides.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Calm Mind sets are an option that allow Drifblim to boost its special attack to dangerous levels by setting up multiple times on more passive pokemon like Tangela. (add on hp fighting to hit snowslash and aurorus and whatnot)However, this set lacks immediate power and struggles with its inability to threaten Skuntank. Liechi Berry can lift Drifblim's Attack stat to allow it to achieve more KOs, but also is more difficult to activate safely due to having to cut Drifblim's health down to 25% and cannot be activated after switching into Stealth Rocks only twice. Aguav Berry heals a higher amount than Sitrus but faces the same problems as Liechi Berry. Destiny Bond is an option over Hex that can act as a surprise lure to take down pokemon like Aggron from full health.

Checks and Counters
===================

Regirock (aurorus too)in particular takes little damage from any move, and Lycanroc can outpace even Drifblim's Unburden with its Accelrock priority.

**Electric-types**: Electric-type pokemon such as Lanturn, Togedemaru, and Eelektross can easily switch into Drifblim's Acrobatics while threatening Drifblim with their Electric-type STAB. While Togedemaru fears Will-O-Wisp, Lanturn and Eelektross can switch into Drifblim without repurcussion(repercussion) . Oricorio-Pom Pom is another example of an Electric-type that fears little from Drifblim and has recovery to shrug off its attacks, and it can also Defog any hazards that might help a Drifblim sweep.

**Bulky Pokemon and Walls**: Drifblim fares poorly against most pokemon with high defenses, due to its relatively mediocre offensive capabilities. Pokemon like Audino and Articuno can recover against any attack Drifblim has and beat it in a 1v1 scenario. Other pokemon like Mudsdale and Persian-Alola can be annoyed by Drifblim due to lack of recovery are but still too bulky for Drifblim to take down by itself.(snowslash too)(also mudsdale and snowslash dont like WoW)

(faticate and scyther arent the best examples imo, cuz they hate WoW and scyther also hates Acrobatics)Super-Effective priority in the form of Sucker Punch and Shadow Sneak from pokemon like Skuntank and Kecleon, respectively, are annoying. Although Drifblim can play around Sucker Punch with Will-O-Wisp, any Sucker Punch user still forces Drifblim into a coinflip between attacking and clicking status.

Implemented.

There are a few things which I didn't go through with, however. I kept Froslass, which I talked to you about (I think?) already, because some of the most solid Drifblim teams have revolved around a core with Froslass. Although the Ghost-type stacking may look strange, it actually does support Drifblim very well with hazard stack and wearing down the same exact pokemon that Drifblim wants to be worn down, as I explain in team options.

The second thing is what you said in Team Options. I did change Scyther to a more relevant Knock Off user but the point wasn't that the pokemon themselves are great Drifblim checks but that Drifblim struggles doesn't have an easy time against them (or a lot of other pokemon) because of their coverage. Let me know if I should reword that though. :blobthinking:

Drifblim also should be paired with fellow sweepers, since it is used mainly on highly offensive teams. Lilligant and Choice Scarf Primeape and Lilligant are two examples of sweepers that appreciate the support Drifblim provides.

Other Options
=============

===================

**Rock-types**: Rock-type Pokemon such as Regirock, Lycanroc, Aggron, Aurorus, (AC) and Kabutops take little damage from Acrobatics and can KO Drifblim with their respective STAB moves. Will-O-Wisp and Hex annoy most of these Pokemon but they still should nearly always beat Drifblim unless severely worn down. Regirock in particular takes little damage from any move, and Lycanroc can outpace even Drifblim's Unburden with its priority Accelerock.

**Electric-types**: Electric-type Pokemon such as Lanturn, Oricorio-E, Rotom-F, and Eelektross can easily switch into Drifblim's Acrobatics while threatening Drifblim it with their Electric-type STAB attacks. Oricorio-E in particular fears little from Drifblim, (AC) since it has recovery to shrug off its attacks, and along with Rotom-F can possibly Defog away any entry hazards that might help a Drifblim sweep.

**Super Effective Coverage**: Drifblim has numerous common weaknesses, and they that are very exploitable, especially before Unburden activates.

Drifblim's mediocre offensive stats means mean(add space)it can often lack in power and is fairly useless before activating its Berry, and it struggles to break through common Pokemon like Alolan Persian, Mudsdale, and Oricorio-E even after the Unburden boost. It also faces competition with other Flying-type attackers, such as Dodrio and Oricorio-G, which have more immediate offensive capabilities.

Moves
========

Acrobatics is Drifblim's main attacking move and is relatively strong after Unburden Sitrus Berry (agree with amchecker on this) activates.

Set Details
========

The given EVs allow Drifblim to maximize its Attack and Speed so it has the chance to Speed tie with neutral-natured base Speed 80 Pokemon before Unburden. Alternatively, (former means something different) you can cut down the Speed to 176 EVs, which still let itDrifblim outspeed Choice Scarf Primeape after Unburden, and put the remaining EVs in either Special Attack or defenses. 4 HP EVs allow Drifblim to activate Sitrus Berry after switching into Stealth Rock or setting up Substitute twice.

Usage Tips
========

========

Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters such as Froslass and Qwilfish are helpful to using Drifblim optimally. Qwilfish additionally can set Toxic Spikes, which in particular pairs amazingly well with Drifblim's Hex and allows it to stall turns using Substitute. Lilligant and Choice Scarf Primeape and Lilligant are two examples of sweepers that appreciate the support Drifblim provides.
