Driving

I was scared as hell the first time I drove. I was scared as hell the first time I drove faster than 55mph. I was scared as hell the first time I drove on an expressway.

Nothing scares me anymore. I've driven through downtown Toronto three times, and also drove someone else's stickshift around Manhattan after not driving a stick in years. Everything, as people have said, will get easier with experience... just give it time, practice, and be careful.

essentially anything I have to say has already been said, just drive a lot and it will come with time

the hardest thing for me really was judging the length of your car for parking and shit like that, i still hate parking xd

its dumb here cuz you have to have your permit for a year before you can even get your license, and then have that for ANOTHER six months before you can even drive with anyone who isn't a family member (you can drive by yourself though then).

dont forget to note that the police picks on p-platers =.=
God yes, they will single you out and pull you over even if you're not breaking the speed limit the most. There is basically no reason whatsoever to drive with your Ps up. A small fine is worth not being harassed by the police and every single goddamn road user.

When I get off my Ps I swear I am going to be the biggest cunt on the road to catch up for the last two years.

Just don't get cocky. You don't need to have all of the laws memorized, you just need to know generalizations and referance points. Don't tailgate, don't go more than 5 over the speed limit (I usually stick to no more than 3 above or below), and know your state's special laws. In Washington, you can take a free right and people will get pissed if you don't go if you get an opening. Also, don't tailgate, I can not stress this enough, this is the #1 cause of road rage and collisions aside from booze, which may or may not be involved in being a tailgating cunt anyways. Every time someone tailgates me on the highway I am highly tempted to tap my brake to turn the light on and make him slow down and get rear ended if someone is tailgating him too. Not that I endorse that kind of driving.

I have almost been in accidents three times, all three were on a drive returning home. This is where cockiness rears its ugly head, you think "holy shit I just drove to safeway i'm fucking amazing" and BAM you forget to look left at a stop sign and would have gotten tboned if the other car wasn't turning. Overall learning to drive is like learning how to ride a bike, except it weighs a ton or so more and can go a lot faster. You're wobbly at first but after a few years you're driving fine.

Driving is kind of like walking and talking. You weren't perfect the second you were born, you had to practice a lot. Practice does make perfect in the situation of driving. however....

when you first fell down as a baby, your parents were able to pick you right back up. That can't happen when you drive. One mistake, such as an accident is hard to overcome. speeding tickets are also bad, but accidents are the worse. i would advise not talking on a cell phone and driving the speed limit or less when you first get started. When it is raining, go about 10-15 under the speed limit depending on how bad it is raining, and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER slam your brakes on a non-dry surface.

Common sense is the ultimate factor when it comes to driving. On June 13, 2005 (my first attempt at my license) I almost totaled my friends 2003 Camry because I didn't yield, but I learned from that mistake and now I drive 80 miles an hour on a 55 MPH road, while it is raining and I text my friends while I am doing it.

Also, last bit of advise. It is better to completely flip your car on the side of the road then to even fender bender somebody. Insurance Companines are the biggest thieves on earth, but as long as you don't hit another person, you're insurance company never has to know. Also, people can make up bullshit about how they hurt their neck while you tapped them at 30 miles an hour and sue you for an easy 5K.

Sad but true....

Driving is easy, I don't know why people have such a hard time with it. The only 2 times I was nervous was the 1st time I got behind the wheel and then the 2nd time when I took my test.

I didn't know it was common sense to roll over and risk your own life just so you don't have to pay a higher fee on your insurance bill....

No offense but this is the kind of advice I hate hearing from people.

I didn't really know how to drive even after I took driving lessons and the test (it's mandatory and VERY strict here, in fact you're not allowed to drive more than 2 other people until you've had your license for two years).
Only after you drive for a good 3-4 months on your own it really becomes second nature.
Now I find driving easy and fun, and it's more enjoyable with a manual (unless you're in a traffic jam argh).

It's good to be slightly on the edge when driving. Accidents usually happen because of cockiness or alcohol.

Sometimes remembering all of the right-of-way rules and things like that is challenging sometimes, but experience makes driving easier.

I'm not all that old to make people think I can drive, but I think driving is a lot more easier if you enjoy it and relax yourself, being nervous while turning the vehicle on and while driving overall won't be as good as relaxing and thinking for good things. I tried it myself in my grandpa's field, and it turned out that for myself I am right. Everything you do relaxed and enjoy it in some way will get easier and easier, but if you push yourself too hard on things, you'll probably do worse. So, yeah, that's all I've got to say!

Well i just finished the driver's test on-line course today, and there are some questions that are really stupid, that don't even really relate to driving and are just common sense. For instance

A child under 6, or weighing less than 60 pounds

A.) Should use a saftey seat only on long trips
B.) Should use a saftey seat as required by law
C.) Should use a saftey seat only if parents are present

Response to possible answer C.) Why would someone go sit in a saftey seat without parents present. It doesn't make any sense. So they would just go in there Car and sit down in one.
