Drowzee (Analysis)

GP check 1/2

[Overview]

Of the Psychic-types in Little Cup, Drowzee is the main one who stands out as a Pokemon who can fulfill many roles for a team - but not all at the same time, or as well as other more dedicated Pokemon. While it doesn't have as much sweeping capabilities as Abra or, the same level of bulk as bulky Slowpoke, Drowzee does holds a relative niche in being a physically-inclined Psychic-type, and has an above-average movepool too at its disposal.

move 4: Ice Punch / Reflect / Hypnosis

nature: Jolly / Adamant

[SET COMMENTS]

Drowzee most clearly shows its niche with What sets Drowzee apart from its Psychic counterparts is its plethora of physical moves, which that fellow Psychic-types such as Spoink and Slowpoke do not receive, or cannot use as effectively. Substitute and Focus Punch are the cruxes of this set, with Drowzee finding opportunities to use Substitute against Scarved Choiced Fighting-type moves and many other attacks that Drowzee is able to it can shrug off with its good defenses. Once safely behind a Substitute,(comma) the strategy its impressive base 90 Special Defense is simple - pound most of the metagame into oblivion with Focus Punch, and defeat those who that resist Focus Punch with the last two moves. Zen Headbutt is a surprisingly powerful move, OHKOing walls such as Koffing and annihilating Croagunk. Ice Punch 2HKOes Gligar, who will never not be able to OHKO back Drowzee with Earthquake. Reflect is a possible another option to further sponge physical hits, but generally type coverage gains more precedence.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Drowzee's base 48 Attack isn't astounding, so using an Oran Berry is recommended to make Drowzee survive longer get more battle time, as Muscle Band doesn't get score any more KOs or 2HKOs. Although one you could use the a Muscle Band, Oran Berry is usually more reliable. really the way to go. Life Orb is another option can be used, but though it doesn't not gain any significant KOs that Muscle Band does not. For the When using an Oran Berry, an Impish or Careful nature is also viable to further boost Drowzee's Defense and Special Defense respectively. The other elemental punches are possible replacements for Ice Punch, but should only be used if your team has particular problems with Mantyke or Paras (though Drowzee shouldn't really be staying in on the latter). Also Finally, you could use another move; Hypnosis to incapacitate an opponent's Pokemon. Not many pokemon actually use Psychic-type moves, and the only other that does is Bronzor, who deosn't even resist Focus Punch.

20 Speed EVs allow Drowzee to outrun Phanpy and outspeeds Phanpy and allows for a 2HKO it with Ice Punch;(semi colon) the other remaining EVs focus on give Drowzee as much physical power as possible, while and increasing its survivability with defensive EVs. This Drowzee set in particular pairs well with Croagunk - the former sponging Drowzee can switch into Psychic-type attacks aimed at the Poison frog, and while Croagunk can switch into taking Bug- and Dark-type attacks aimed at Drowzee. They also pair well strategically - Drowzee punching creates massive holes with Focus Punch,(comma) and priority-based Croagunk will mop up the rest with a combination of Fake Out,(comma) and Vacuum Wave,(comma) or Sucker Punch.

move 2: ThunderPunch
move 3: Ice Punch
move 4:(space)Brick Break
item: Choice Scarf
nature: Jolly / Adamant

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is to show Drowzee's utilizes a Choice Scarf to make Drowzee fast enough to use its best physical moves in action along with being fast enough to use them. Zen Headbutt (obviously) is for a great STAB move and for the has a possibility to flinch the opponent. chance of a flinch hax. ThunderPunch is for things like mainly for Mantyke, though it hits other Water-types super effectively as well. who never go down. Ice Punch is for hitting Gligar, Dragon-types, and Grass-types super effectively hard. And Lastly, Brick Break is for provides additional type coverage.(full stop)

With the 180 Speed EVs, a positive boosting nature, and Choice Scarf, Drowzee reaches a Speed of 21, outspeeding all non-choice non-Scarfed Pokémon in Little Cup. Jolly is preferred mainly because of that one reason.(not really needed as you mention a positive nature in the first sentence)The 212 Attack EVs allow Drowzee to deal is obviously for doing more physical damage to its opponents all Pokemon. And Lastly, the Special Defense EVs are just for improving its give it some special bulk.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Some people are probably wondering, "why use a weaker STAB move when you have Zen Headbutt?" Well, with Psycho Cut, the Although Psycho Cut's Base Power is might be slightly lower, (10 Base Power) but the additional affect is probably worth it. You get a 30%(space)chance of inflicting landing a critical hit is usually worth it. Although this probably isn't as good as getting a flinch hax, some people might still use Psycho Cut just for the additional boost of attack power. And that is really all Drowzee has for the Additional Comments section.(This last two sentences are unneccessary)

Maybe mention a scout Pokemon or two with U-turn/Baton Pass to predict Pursuit users?

move 4: ThunderPunch / Hypnosis

nature: Brave
Evs: 212 Atk / 236 Def / 36 SpD
Ivs: 0 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

For This set, uses Drowzee's uses its low Speed stat to its advantage. With abuse Trick Room; when it's set up, not much can stop this Drowzee in Trick Room, especially with its decent physical movepool and average base Attack stat. Zen Headbutt is its strongest STAB attack,(comma) while Fire Punch hits sweepers like Pokemon such as Bellsprout and walls such as Bronzor super effectively. ThunderPunch can defeat put the hurt on the common Water-types such as (Mantyke and Buizel,(comma) in particular) as well as and it also hits Flying-types super effectively.

An Oran Berry allows Drowzee to survive longer as it isn't the most bulky Pokemon have more battle time and because Drowzee is not the true Trick Room sweeper itself. The EVs in defense and special defense is to defensive EVs help Drowzee able to withstand attacks from more defensive Pokemon who can take in one of Drowzee's physical attacks. The 0 Speed IVs are (obviously) there so that make Drowzee as slow as possible, making it can be faster in Trick Room.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Instead of Fire Punch, one can opt to use Ice Punch can be used to OHKO Gligar with ease. Brick Break is better because it can easily counter makes it much easier to defeat Munchlax. Hypnosis is another good idea because it helps scores Drowzee get a free turns to attack.

Maybe mention Pokemon who can abuse Trick Room as well? Other Trick Room sweepers, or extra Trick Room supporters to be on the safe side

[Team Options]

Croagunk is a great partner for Drowzee regardless of the set, sharing great defensive synergy and has priority to defeat weakened opponents. pairing well through resistances and roles in the battle. Drowzee generally complements anything that is weak to Pokemon such as Scarf Mankey, who cannot touch Drowzee except through U-turn - and even this is weak if Reflect is in effect. While it isn't not quite bulky enough to be game-changing used as a constant cornerstone or pivot in teams, Drowzee can fulfil this role in times of need. Priority users enjoy Drowzee's ability to punch holes in the opposing team with a well-timed Focus Punch, these include the aforementioned Croagunk, Eevee (who is immune to possible Shadow Balls aimed at Drowzee),(comma) and many others. Bronzor is also a good teammate because of its bulk and its ability to easily set up Reflect and sponge any super effective attacks on aimed at Drowzee.

[Optional Changes]

Drowzee has a surprisingly wide movepool, but most of these options tend to be outclassed by other Pokemon. For example, it has access to Nasty Plot and a decent movepool it use it with with which to utilise it, but Croagunk tends to perform this role better on a team due to its high Special Attack and access to priority in Vacuum Wave. Drowzee can use both protective screens, but this is often better left to bulkier Pokemon such as Bronzor (who has better typing) are usually better. who has a better typing. Drowzee's status options are also bettered by other Pokemon, though access to Hypnosis - albeit with having an unreliable 60% accuracy - is one move that it can boast over Slowpoke.

[Counters]

Drowzee is, Oddly enough, Drowzee is quite the tough nut to crack due to its above-average defenses. However, strong attacks in general will overcome the Hypnosis Pokemon because of a as it lacks of consistent recovery that walls such as Gligar can boast. In particular, Ghost-types such as Gastly and Drifloon cause problems with STAB, super effective Ghost-type attacks and their access to Trick. Stunky can easily counter Drowzee with Sucker Punch, but must watch out if there is it has a Substitute up for Drowzee. Taunt will hurt cause problems for most Drowzee sets, nullifying their its attempt to use support moves or set up a Substitute.(full stop) to ease prediction with Focus Punch. Generally Drowzee is quite weak offensively if not hitting with a super effective move, so Pokemon such as Stunky who are immune to Drowzee's STAB Zen Headbutt and take neutral damage from other attacks are good counters.

OK, there are still some major problems with this analysis that needs to be fixed before this gets another check.

1. Please proofread your analysis again and make sure that there aren't any spacing errors and missed changes from Komodo's check.

2. You really have to expand upon the AC section of the Scarf set. Some things you could add are: What can't Drowzee revenge kill, what revenge kills Scarf Drowzee and what are some teammates that can protect Drowzee from those revenge killers, why isn't Trick a viable option, are there any other moves that can be used, what Pokemon appreciate Scarf Drowzee as a teammate, etc. etc.

Take these considerations to heart and apply them to the Trick Room set as well. It seems like you know how to write an analysis pretty well from your SubPunch set.

Don't be afraid to sound repetitive!

Thank you.

Although Psycho Cut's Base Power is slightly lower, (10 Base Power) the 30% chance of landing a critical hit is usually worth it. Pursuit users are devastating to Drowzee because of its poor defense Defense, so a scout Pokémon such as Gligar would be useful as it most likely has can use either U-turn or Baton Pass [why is this at all relevant to Pursuit-users?]. Drowzee has a tough time revenge killing Croagunk do due to the fact that is has Sucker Punch, which totally messes it up. Any Pokémon faster than Choice Scarf can easily revenge kill it because of Drowzee's frailness frailty. Trick is not a viable option because Drowzee probably will not be fast enough to make a move again. Aside from the ones stated before, Drowzee doesn't really get any other moves it could use on this set except for Return or Drain Punch. Pokémon that would appreciate this type of Drowzee are the ones that use priority to finish off their opponents (Croagunk).

[SET COMMENTS]

This set uses Drowzee's low Speed to abuse Trick Room; when it's set up, not much can stop Drowzee in Trick Room, especially with its decent physical movepool and average Attack stat. Zen Headbutt is its strongest STAB attack, while Fire Punch hits Pokemon such as Bellsprout [Isn't Bellsprout hit super effectively by Zen Headbutt anyway?] and Bronzor super effectively.
Instead of Fire Punch, Ice Punch can be used to OHKO Gligar with ease. Brick Break makes it much easier to defeat Munchlax. Hypnosis is another good idea because it scores Drowzee free turns to attack. Bulky Pokémon that can set up Trick Room (Duskull, Bronzor) can also help this set out because Drowzee does not have the kind of defensive stats they do, which means it might not be able to set up Trick Room. Pokémon such as Shroomish greatly appreciate Trick Room because it can set up Spore before its opponent gets a turn to react.

[Team Options]

A big problem throughout the analysis was inconsistency of description - the best example of this was talking about the defences. In some parts you said Drowzee was very frail, and in other parts you said it was bulky. Please fix these.
