Druddigon (Analysis)

A complete nitpick but:

Druddigon is one of two pure Dragon-types in the game.

I believe you meant "one of two pure fully evolved Dragon-types in the game", since there are plenty of pure NFE Dragons available.

[Overview]

Druddigon is one of two pure Dragon-types in the game. With Haxorus kicking around in OU, this leaves Druddigon to rule UU as the Dragon-type with the highest Attack stat. Combine this Attack stat with Druddigon's STAB moves and his great bulk and you have a fearsome pokemon. While Druddigon may possess all of these qualities, it is he's still rather underwhelming. Druddigon's abysmal base 48 Speed forces him to rely on Sucker Punch, which can be its his downfall. Despite it's these flaws, Druddigon is still a great pokemon and should be considered on your team.

[SET]
name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Outrage / Dragon Claw
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Fire Fang
move 4: Crunch / Sucker Punch
item: Choice Band / Life Orb
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Adamant
evs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Druddigon's best set. Choice Band Outrage coming off of a base 120 Attack stat does a great amount of damage to everything that's not resistant or extremely physically bulky. However, Dragon Claw can be used if being locked into Outrage is undesirable. Earthquake deals with Steel-types such as Registeel, Steelix, and Aggron. Fire Fang allows you to roasts Ferroseed and Escavalier. Crunch is advisable with a Choice Band, as being Choice-locked into Sucker Punch can be easily taken advantage of. When using Life Orb, Sucker Punch is the preferred move because it allows Druddigon to bypass it's his abysmal Speed. With this set, Druddigon acts as a wallbreaker. With Druddigon's great STAB, he is able to open up holes in the opponents team for other sweepers such as Weavile to clean up. Another excellent partner to Druddigon is Zweilous, because most teams can't handle repeated Outrages. from both of them.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread allows Druddigon to outspeed minimum Speed Chansey while providing maximum power and bulk. Druddigon can then proceed to 2HKO it with Outrage. When using this set, prediction is key, as removing the opponents Steel-types will lead to a lot damage being dealt with Outrage. Strong Fire- and Fighting-types can help help in this regard. As with any pokemon, entry hazard support is greatly appreciated. Because of Druddigon's very low speed, it he appreciates either paralysis or Trick Room support. If being used in Trick Room, a Brave nature with 0 EVs and IVs in Speed should be used. When trying to face opponents such as Mismagius, Pursuit is an option to hit them as they flee or use Substitute fearing Sucker Punch.

[SET]
name: Hone Claws
move 1: Hone Claws
move 2: Dragon Claw / Outrage
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Sucker Punch
item: Leftovers / Life Orb
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Adamant
evs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set focuses on boosting Druddigon's already high Attack Stat to astronomical levels. This set gives Druddigon all the power of the Choice Band set, the ability to change moves, and recovery from Leftovers. Unlike the Choice Band set, Dragon Claw is the preferred STAB move rather than Outrage because you Druddigon retains the ability to change moves. However, Outrage can be used for much greater power. Earthquake lets Druddigon deal with the Steel-types, which resist the rest of the moveset. Sucker Punch allows Druddigon to bypass it's his horrid Speed stat. You can opt to use Life Orb instead of instead of Leftovers for added power, but the gradual recovery is appreciated.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Once again, the given EV Spread allows Druddigon to outspeed Chansey. Just as with the last set, paralysis support is very welcome so that Druddigon doesn't have to rely on Sucker Punch to beat faster opponents. Entry hazard support is always appreciated by any sweeper, and Druddigon is no exception. Stealth Rock and Spikes help Druddigon break through the more sturdy walls. Registeel and Qwilfish earn a special mention for having excellent synergy with Druddigon, and being able to use Thunder Wave and entry hazards to support Druddigon. Superpower is an option over Earthquake to maintain coverage against Steel-types, while hitting Chansey harder. Fire Fang can be used to roast Escavalier and Ferroseed.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Druddigon has a myriad of other options that it he can use, but are uneffective on its his main sets. Thunder Fang can be used for a strong hit against Water-types such as Slowbro and Suicune, but Crunch will hit the former harder. Druddigon can pull off a phazing set with Dragon Tail, but without reliable recovery, it is it's very difficult to use effectively. Druddigon can provide its his own paralysis support through the use of Glare, but it is it's generally better to use an attack. Taunt is available, but Druddigon is far too slow to utilize it. Rock Slide gets a Sheer Force boost, but doesn't offer much in terms of coverage, so it is ill-advised. As mentioned before, Pursuit can be used to trap Ghost-types such as Mismagius. Bulldoze can be a substitute for Earthquake on a set utilizing Sheer Force and Life Orb. Revenge can be used over Superpower, but you Druddigon must take damage for it to double in power, so Superpower is superior. Finally, Druddigon has a fairly large special movepool, but its his base 60 Special Attack stat is nothing to write home about.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Druddigon is very hard to switch into due to his great STAB and high Attack stat. One of the best counters to Druddigon is Eviolite Gligar, as it fails to be 2HKO'd by a +1 Outrage. Eviolite Dusclops can also take Druddigon's hits and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp. Steel-types such as Registeel and Aggron can withstand Druddigon's Dragon-type attacks, but must be extremely wary of Earthquake and Superpower. Mismagius can always Will-O-Wisp Druddigon and take one Outrage. Revenge killing Druddigon is often the best way of removing it him from the game due to its very low Speed. Weavile's priority Ice Shard will outspeed Druddigon's Sucker Punch and will cause it to fail. Faster pokemon that resist Sucker Punch also do a great job, such as Houndoom or Heracross.

I changed all the gender stuff to male because you weren't consistent with it.

2 things...
1. You had this... Registeel and Qwilfish earn a special mention for having excellent synergy with Druddigon, and being able to use Thunder Wave and entry hazards to support Druddigon.

I had this...Registeel and Qwilfish earn a special mention for having excellent synergy with Druddigon, while also being able to support him with entry hazards and Thunder Wave.

I think mine just flows a bit better but I can change it back if need be.

2.Is this an official check? Because if it is then this is done.

Going to check this.

edit: later I guess lol. I'll wait until the below stuff are solved.

I don't understand why my suggested changes were ignored. If Drudiggon wants to compete in UU, he has to be able to take into account all of the major offensive and defensive threats he can cover in one set. Chansey is a huge, huge deal. If he doesn't use Superpower, he's going to have a much harder time breaking it and won't be worth his weight on the team as a wallbreaker. Crunch and Earthquake don't do anything.

Again, I suggest this set be added in place of the one in the OP. In terms of sheer efficiency, this is the best Druddigon can do.

Sheer Force should be slashed, as it will power up Fire Fang and it removes the Life Orb recoil.

I don't even think Life Orb should be slashed in TBH. It's only useful for Sheer Force and because it has some form of priority, but since nearly all of its good moves don't get the boost, there's no point.

Druddigon doesn't really need Superpower imo. After Stealth Rocks +1 Superpower doesn't OHKO Max/Max+ Chansey whereas +1 Outrage will 2HKO and you outspeed anyways. I'll give Superpower a slash but imo Earthquake > Superpower.

No, Earthquake is just an inferior option on Druddigon. It actually has a chance to fail to KO Cobalion even with a Choice Band (84.2% - 99.1%) where Superpower doesn't (100.9% - 118.9%). Most of the targets Earthquake hits for super effective damage are covered by Outrage (180 BP on Fire-types vs 200) or Superpower (240 BP on Rocks/Steels vs 200), and even the rare Bug/Steels are covered with Fire Fang. The fact that Superpower does so much damage to Chansey means that you'll usually KO it right away at high percentages without giving it a chance to stall you out with recovery. Outrage is a good option against Chansey in the event that it's switching in, not when you're switching Druddigon in and proactively attacking. You will be stalled for confusion by Wish + Protect.

And to reiterate:

CB Superpower: 76.2% - 89.9%

There is a chance to KO Chansey after Stealth Rock damage, but this scenario will almost never happen since Chansey will most likely switch into an attack or more than one layer of hazards, losing more HP.

Alright, you've made a very good point and I concede defeat...Superpower gets the primary slash on CB.

@the chansey calc it was like 3 AM so give me a break :)

Using Protect removes Outrage's lock, which means you won't get to confuse it.

SJCrew, you aren't supposed to argue to have changes / etc implemented in a thread that is past the QC stage, go here and argue it (I already have btw)

I'm pretty sure he's fine arguing it where it was because the thread in question said arguing slashes and such could be done here.

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Band Outrage coming off of a base 120 Attack stat does a great deals massive amounts of damage to any Pokemon that's not resistant or extremely physically bulky that doesn't resist it or isn't physically bulky. However, Dragon Claw can be used if being locked into Outrage is undesirable. Superpower allows Druddigon to deal with Steel-types such as Registeel, Steelix, and Aggron who can take its STAB attacks all day; while it also does massive damage to Chansey. Earthquake is another option for dealing with Steel-types, without which lacks the negative side effects of Superpower. Fire Fang roasts Ferroseed and Escavalier. However, Escavalier can stomach both Superpower and Earthquake and hit back very hard with a powerful STAB Megahorn, and Ferroseed too can take Earthquake comfortably. Fire Fang thus gives Druddigon a way to keep these threats in check, OHKOing both. Crunch is advisable with a Choice Band, as setup sweepers will take advantage of Druddigon being Choice-locked into Sucker Punch and can be easily taken advantage of. When using Life Orb, however, Sucker Punch is the preferred move because as it allows Druddigon to bypass his its abysmal Speed and hit faster threats first.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread allows Druddigon to outspeed minimum Speed Chansey while providing maximum power and bulk. When using this set, prediction is key, as removing the opponent's Steel-types will lead to a lot damage being dealt with Outrage. Strong Fire- and Fighting-types can help help in this regard allow Druddigon to mow through the rest of the opponent's team with Outrage. Strong Fire- and Fighting-type teammates thus help Druddigon immensely in this regard. As with any Pokemon attacker, entry hazard support is greatly appreciated. Because of Druddigon's very low speed, he Druddigon also appreciates either paralysis or Trick Room support to get around its poor Speed. If being Druddigon is being used in Trick Room, a Brave nature with 0 EVs and IVs in Speed no investment and 0 Speed IVs should be used. When trying to facing opponents such as Mismagius, Pursuit is an option to hit them as they flee or use Substitute fearing Sucker Punch. With Druddigon's its great STAB, he is able to open up Druddigon can tear holes in the opponent's team for other sweepers such as Weavile to clean up. Another excellent partner to offensive partner for Druddigon is Zweilous, because most teams can't handle repeated Outrages.

Weavile's priority Ice Shard will outspeed Druddigon's Sucker Punch and will cause it to fail, dealing massive amounts of damage. Faster Pokemon that resist Sucker Punch also do a great job, such as Houndoom or and Heracross.

[Dream World]

Druddigon receives the ability Mold Breaker from the Dream World, Mold Breaker which allows Druddigon it to hit any levitating Pokemon, such as Azelf, Mismagius, Weezing, and Flygon, with Earthquake, preventing them from getting a free switch-in. And though the passive damage from Rough Skin is nice, Mold Breaker will usually be the better choice.
