[OVERVIEW]

Dugtrio's ability Arena Trap lets it become one of the best revenge killers in the entire tier. Dugtrio has a great Speed tier, outpacing common sights like Sneasel and Virizion; the only Pokemon able to naturally outspeed Dugtrio are Jolteon, Accelgor, and Aerodactyl. Dugtrio also has a great offensive typing, giving it STAB Earthquake, and it has access to other offensive coverage moves like Stone Edge and Sucker Punch, as well as Aerial Ace, which even lets it trap and KO Virizion, one of the tier's biggest threats. Furthermore, because Dugtrio is able to reliably eliminate certain Pokemon, it can support many setup sweepers like Fletchinder and can even use Memento to create opportunities for setup sweepers and generate momentum. Unfortunately, Dugtrio's other stats hold it down, preventing it from even taking light attacks. Dugtrio also fails to OHKO Pokemon like Rhyperior and Diancie with super effective attacks without quite a lot of chip damage. In addition, Dugtrio is very susceptible to priority, specifically Ice Shard, which is super effective, and is forced to use Substitute to dodge Sucker Punch.

Moves

Earthquake is most effective at damaging grounded Poison-, Steel-, Fire-, Rock-, and Electric-types like Garbodor, Registeel, Houndoom, Diancie, Magneton, and Manectric. Aerial Ace lets Dugtrio handle the tier's most threatening setup sweeper, Virizion. Substitute is used so that Dugtrio can dodge Sucker Punch from Pokemon like Expert Belt Emboar, Houndoom, and Absol and prevents revenge killers from coming in and getting the KO. In the final slot, Sucker Punch can be used to deal more damage to Psychic-types like Meloetta and Sigilyph but is mainly used to hit slower priority users and Choice Scarf users like Medicham and Delphox. Alternatively, Memento can create momentum for your team and give setup sweepers a free turn to boost their stats. Another option is Toxic, which can cripple defensive Pokemon coming in after Dugtrio gets a KO, such as Alomomola and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack investment with Life Orb gives Dugtrio as much power as it can get. Maximum Speed investment and a Jolly nature let Dugtrio outspeed Sneasel and Virizion. Arena Trap stops grounded Pokemon, with the exception of Ghost-types, from being able to switch without using U-turn, Volt Switch, or Baton Pass.

Usage Tips
========

Dugtrio does not have the bulk to switch into attacks, so try to bring it in through a slow Volt Switch, U-turn, or Baton Pass. It is also possible but riskier to double switch to get Dugtrio in if you don't have any VoltTurn users. Dugtrio should only stay in on targets that will be KOed by its attacks in order to avoid being the one that is KOed. Dugtrio's main goal is to eliminate targets that threaten your sweepers and wallbreakers, so try to keep them healthy until Dugtrio has finished KOing their checks and counters. If one of your Pokemon gets KOed, try to use Dugtrio to finish off the job. Memento should be used when your team lacks an appropriate switch-in to the threat Dugtrio is against in order to give your team some breathing space to work around it. It can also be used to give a sweeper more room to set up once its checks and counters are weakened or removed. Make sure to only use Memento when Dugtrio has trapped all the targets it has needed to. Try to keep Dugtrio's last move hidden until it is absolutely needed. This can make your opponent guess wrong and accidentally let their guard down. For example, an Emboar comes in thinking it can revenge kill Dugtrio with Sucker Punch, but Dugtrio stops it with Substitute.

Team Options
========

Spikes support makes it a lot easier to secure KOs, so partners like Garbodor, Accelgor, and Mega Glalie can support Dugtrio so that it can get some crucial 2HKOs on Pokemon like Rhyperior. Wallbreakers such as Exploud, Meloetta, Hoopa, and Venusaur weaken the opponent's team to let Dugtrio snag some extra KOs. All of them appreciate Dugtrio trapping one of their best checks, Registeel. Fighting-types without coverage to hit Poison-types like Hitmonlee and Gurdurr appreciate Dugtrio's ability to remove Pokemon like Garbodor and Qwilfish. They can also check Ice Shard and Sucker Punch users, which annoy Dugtrio. Flying-type sweepers like Vivillon, Braviary, and Fletchinder love Dugtrio's ability to trap and KO their counters such as Diancie and Registeel. Virizion is aided by Dugtrio's trapping ability as well: Dugtrio traps Fire-types like Delphox and Houndoom, both of which non-Stone Edge Virizion struggles against, and Poison-types that Virizion struggles to KO if it is running Calm Mind or Stone Edge coverage.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Pursuit can trap Hoopa, which can normally escape Dugtrio's Arena Trap because it is part Ghost-type. Stone Edge can hit Fletchinder, Braviary, and Sigilyph after Dugtrio KOes a Pokemon to prevent them from setting up, but it can't trap them, making it hard to secure a KO. Hone Claws can let it set up and potentially sweep, but even if it gets to choose what to set up on, Dugtrio still has a hard time finding Pokemon that can't KO it. Focus Sash can let Dugtrio check different threats at full HP like certain Choice Scarf Pokemon such as Emboar. Choice Band can be used to avoid Life Orb recoil but more importantly 2HKO Rhyperior, but it leaves Dugtrio vulnerable to Pokemon coming in because it cannot switch its moves, which can be easily taken advantage of.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Pokemon With Recovery**: Dugtrio's attacks are unable to 2HKO the bulky walls in the tier like Slowking and Jellicent. These walls can easily recover back their HP and beat Dugtrio with their offensive moves or stall Dugtrio out with Toxic or Will-O-Wisp. They must beware of Dugtrio carrying Toxic, though, as it can severely cripple them in the long run.

**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: Pokemon that outspeed Dugtrio like Jolteon, Accelgor, and Aerodactyl can all pressure it with a strong or super effective move. Choice Scarf Pokemon like Braviary and Emboar can outspeed Dugtrio and KO it with a STAB move because of its pitiful bulk. Priority in Sucker Punch and Mach Punch can also deal a large amount of damage, limiting how many more turns Dugtrio has until Life Orb recoil eventually KOes it. Ice Shard from Abomasnow, Sneasel, and Mega Glalie can straight out OHKO Dugtrio. Sucker Punch users must be wary of Substitute and Memento, though, as the former can let Dugtrio trap and KO it, and the latter sets up an opportunity for one of Dugtrio's teammates to potentially set up.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: While Pokemon like Blastoise, Gurdurr, and Granbull are much more susceptible to getting worn down, Dugtrio still struggles to pick up KOs without a lot of prior chip damage.

**Untrappable Pokemon**: Ghost- and Flying-types and even Pokemon with Levitate are immune to Arena Trap, letting them switch out into a Pokemon that can handle Dugtrio.

name: Arena Trap
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stone Edge
move 3: Aerial Ace
move 4: Pursuit / Memento
item: Choice Band / Life Orb
ability: Arena Trap

Most of the time, Dugtrio is trapping something and then switching out, which makes Choice Band generally better, especially against Registeel and Diancie. Choice Band Dugtrio allows you to switch into Registeel without fear aside from a predicted Iron Head and KO it, as with CB it doesn't get 2HKO'd by Seismic Toss. In addition, it's easier to get a Pokemon worn down to the point of picking them off with CB Dugtrio, as CB's damage output is considerably stronger.

Aerial Ace seems like a no-brainer to me. Trapping Virizion is such a nice attribute to have.

Pursuit doesn't do much, but it allows you to revenge kill Hoopa as it does 95% minimum, and it can occasionally be nice for say, Sigilyph or Rotom. If you use Life Orb, Memento is better as it can help an offensive Pokemon set up and sweep.

I disagree with almost all of the above. Literally half the point of the revamp was to remove CB and focus on what Dugtrio can do with LO instead (the superior item). So Choice Band should not be slashed on the main set let alone be the primary slashed, it can be mentioned in OO though. It provides very minimal advantages over LO at the cost of being extremely exploitable. Stone Edge is also pretty useless. Rock-weak Pokemon are either already destroyed by Earthquake or beat/can switch out of Dugtrio anyway, so I'm not really sure what it's doing.

the main set should be this:

earthquake
aerial ace
substitute
sucker punch / memento / toxic

substitute widens the range of targets dugtrio traps by allowing it to circumvent sucker punch from absol, emboar, and sometimes houndoom

dugtrio doesn't have very many viable options in the fourth slot.

memento is kind of a nobrainer since dugtrio is occasionally paired with a set-up sweeper that may find this useful. sucker punch is also good as it allows dugtrio to pick off weakened faster threats like lo jolteon, aero, and choice scarf users such as hoopa, delphox, and medicham, among other things. meanwhile, toxic makes it so that dugtrio isn't useless after it has trapped something when a defensive pokemon like alomomola or slowking switches in. combined with substitute, it can stall for toxic damage and be pretty irritating for those kind of pokemon. also useful to stop bulk up braviary from freely setting up on dugtrio.

the set should be exactly as I put it.

Implemented, just gonna say and I don't like Toxic at all since you really need a Sub up already (which can be difficult sometimes) or you need your opponent to choke and even if you decide to stay in and continuously Sub you lose a lot of HP. I don't feel like it needs a slash but still gets a mention in moves.

You don't really need it with sub, I don't think I implied you did. After Dugtrio takes out something, they can switch in their toxic-weak Pokemon into Dugtrio, which happen to be most Pokemon that swap into Dugtrio after it takes something out, and Dugtrio can cripple them with it. It benefits from sub, but doesn't need it to fulfill its purpose, which is to cripple defensive Pokemon so that they're easier to break for its teammates after Dugtrio gets the kill it needs. An Alomomola hit with Toxic for instance is much easier to take down due to Leftovers being negated and it being punished for spamming its usual wish + protect tactics.

hi

[OVERVIEW]
  • say how dugtrio is very helpful because of its coverage in aerial ace allowing it to effectively trap and ohko a top tier threat in virizion
  • under negatives talk about how it is easily picked off by priority, especially ice shard, due to poor bulk
[SET COMMENTS]
  • mention rock types in the first sentence, give mention to diancie
  • in mentioning choice scarf users give mention to choice scarf delphox over choice scarf abomasnow as it much more relevant
  • talk about what pokemon you would aim to hit with toxic, refer to bulky waters like alomomola + sub bulk up braviary
[USAGE TIPS]
  • talk about how using Dugtrio's trapping capabilities are ultimately to aid in other Pokemon in sweeping in the future, so aim to keep those Pokemon in good health until the Pokemon Dugtrio aims to trap is fainted
  • Refer to how you can double switch to bring in Dugtrio if you do not have VoltTurn / baton pass, however it should be done with extreme caution
  • Talk about aiming to use Memento mid to lategame if Dugtrio has successfully trapped and beaten what it has intended to
[TEAM OPTIONS]
  • Talk about flying type pokemon like Braviary, Fletchinder and Vivillon being good partners with Dugtrio as it usually can trap and beat their counters, ex: diancie, registeel
[OTHER OPTIONS]
  • talk about how use choice band also allows dugtrio to live after 2 seismic tosses from Registeel due to not taking life orb recoil
[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]
  • refer to aerodactyl + accelgor + jolteon under faster pokemon because they all can naturally outspeed without choice scarf and potentially ohko
  • list Flying / Ghost types / Pokemon with levitate to be annoying due to them easily being able to switch out to a counter because they cannot be trapped
after this qc 1/3

In the overview you should probably mention how Dugtrio trapping mons provides support for its teammates. You mention a lot how Dugtrio traps certain mons to pave the way for its teammates but this is not mentioned in the Overview so I'd add that.

Maybe you should mention specifically trapping Registeel (and Diancie maybe) in the overview, that's a huge reason to use Dugtrio on a team

[Overview]

- Note Substitute somewhere in here as its on the set. (maybe toward the end when you mention priority as a way to dodge sucker punch)

[Arena Trap]

- Note that, even without Sub, Toxic is a nice option to cripple bulky walls that Duggy can't trap and it's already eliminated what the team needed it to remove
- Note in Usage Tips that you should try to keep from revealing Duggy's 4th move until it's absolutely necessary. This can let you play some mind games that can be beneficial for the team later (such as waiting to use Sucker on a faster mon until the next switch-in, or making Mola / King feel safe by switching out the first time they come in)

[Checks and Counters]

- I'd just remove Aromatisse as it isn't that good in the current meta. Maybe replace with Mola or Slowking, but note that they need to be wary of Toxic crippling them for Dugtrio's teammates
- In the priority section, note that Sucker Punch users usually have to work around Substitute and can also be rendered setup fodder by Memento if there's something like Virizion in the back, which doesn't care for Sucker Punch priority

Do all this and QC Approved 3/3

These walls can easily Recover back the their HP and beat Dugtrio with there their offensive move or stall Dugtrio out with Toxic or Will-O-Wisp. They must beware of Dugtrio carrying Toxic, (AC) though, (AC) as it can severely cripple these Pokemon in the long run.

**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: Pokemon that outspeed Dugtrio like Jolteon, Accelgor, and Aerodactyl can all pressure Dugtrio with a strong or super effective move. Choice Scarf Pokemon like Braviary and Emboar can outspeed Dugtrio and KO it with a STAB move because of Dugtrio's pitiful bulk defenses. Priority in Sucker Punch and Mach Punch can also deal a large amount of damage, (AC) limiting it on how many more turns it Dugtrio has till until Life Orb recoil eventually KOes it. Ice Shard from Abomasnow, Sneasel, and Mega Glalie can straight out OHKO Dugtrio. Sucker Punch users must be wary of Substitute and Memento, (AC) as the former can possibly end up where Dugtrio picks off the for (?) or in the Memento' s case, open , (AC) and the latter sets up an opportunity for one of Dugtrio's potential teammates to potentially set up.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: While Pokemon like Blastoise, Gurdurr, and Granbull are much more susceptible to getting worn down, Dugtrio still struggles to pick up KOes KOs without a lot of prior chip damage.

**Untrapable Untrappable Pokemon**: Ghost- and Flying-types and even Pokemon with Levitate are immune to Arena Trap, (AC) letting them switch out into a Pokemon that can handle Dugtrio.

Dugtrio also has a great offensive typing, giving it STAB Earthquake, and it has access to other offensive coverage moves like Stone Edge, (RC) and Sucker Punch, and as well as Aerial Ace, (AC) (helps clarify which move does said trapping and KOing) which even lets it trap and KO Virizion, one of the tier's biggest threats. Furthermore, as (this is optional, but maybe change "as" to "because"; maybe it's just me, but I feel like it flows better) Dugtrio is able to reliably eliminate certain Pokemon, it can support many setup sweepers like Fletchinder by removing their counters (you mentioned this just a few words earlier) and can even use Memento to create opportunities for setup sweepers and generate momentum. Unfortunately, Dugtrio's other stats hold it down, preventing it from even taking light attacks. Dugtrio also even (you're using "even" waaaay too much) fails to OHKO Pokemon like Rhyperior and Diancie with super effective attacks without quite a lot of chip damage. In addition, Dugtrio is very susceptible to priority, specifically Ice Shard, which is super effective, and is forced to use Substitute to dodge Sucker Punch.

Moves
========

In the final slot, Sucker Punch can be used to deal more damage to Psychic-types like Meloetta and Sigilyph but is mainly used to hit slower priority users and Choice Scarf users like Medicham and Delphox and Medicham (subjective but it goes along with the list of what uses priority and what uses scarf more commonly). Alternatively, Memento can create momentum for your team and give setup sweepers a free turn to freely (was repetitive and/or redundant) boost their stats. Another option is Toxic, which can cripple defensive Pokemon coming in after Dugtrio gets a KO, such as Alomomola and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack investment with Life Orb gives Dugtrio as much power as it can get. Maximum Speed investment and a Jolly nature let Dugtrio outspeed Sneasel and Virizion. Arena Trap stops grounded Pokemon, (AC) ( (remove paren) with the exception of Ghost-types) (remove paren) from being able to switch without using U-turn, Volt Switch, or Baton Pass.

Usage Tips
========

For example, an Emboar comes in thinking it can revenge kill Dugtrio with Sucker Punch, but Dugtrio stops it with Substitute (or whatever it stops it with, something needs to go here) (remove leftover comment) and ends up KOing the Emboar as well.

Team Options
========

Other Options
=============

Choice Band can be used to avoid Life Orb recoil but more importantly 2HKO Rhyperior, but it leaves Dugtrio vulnerable by to Pokemon coming in because it cannot switch its moves, which can be easily taken advantage of.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Pokemon with With Recovery**: Dugtrio's attacks are unable to 2HKO the bulky walls in the tier like Slowking and Jellicent. These walls can easily Recover recover (youre referring to the verb, not the move) back their HP and beat Dugtrio with their offensive move (unless they both actually only run one attacking move, change this to "moves") or stall Dugtrio out with Toxic or Will-O-Wisp. They must beware of Dugtrio carrying Toxic, though, as it can severely cripple these Pokemon them (maintaining consistency with "they/them/their" pronouns when referring to multiple Pokemon) in the long run.

**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: Pokemon that outspeed Dugtrio like Jolteon, Accelgor, and Aerodactyl can all pressure Dugtrio it with a strong or super effective move. Choice Scarf Pokemon like Braviary and Emboar can outspeed Dugtrio and KO it with a STAB move because of Dugtrio's its pitiful bulk. Sucker Punch users must be wary of Substitute and Memento, though, (AC) (transitions) as the former can let Dugtrio trap and KO it, and the latter sets up an opportunity for one of Dugtrio's teammates to potentially set up.
