Durant (Analysis)

In previous generations you could switch out on inactive Truant turns. I don't think it's changed

Isn't a better way to run that combo using escape button on Aianto, although you have to outrun the opponent but it means that no matter what they hit you with, you switch out into shandera/Gochiezeru.

Actually, I'm 100% sure you can switch out on the turn you're carelessly slacking off. This is why you need to have Aianto die for the tactic to work.
j99ubers, Aianto could easily be outsped if he's not using a Choice Scarf. I outsped a +2 Spe Dragonite once. It definitely would not be possible without the Choice Scarf.

Huh... I seem to remember my Slaking always getting revenge killed and set up on 'cause I couldn't switch out... Don't know what got that notion in my head.

Nitpick:

Pokemon like Blissey, Burungeru, and Kyogre make excellent teammates for their ability to come in on the Fire-type attacks Aianto draws and because they are specially bulky.

Kyogre is mentioned a few times in this analysis even though I'm pretty sure it's banned in OU?

I'm not a big fan of this set. If we are relying on this gimmick set to work, we fail as a group. When this thing uses Befriend, the opponent will just switch out, and you will fail. This is just bad.

However, the Claw Sharpen Hustle set has some potiential.
The little steel ant may get a niche.

The point, as I've stated, is to die right after using Befriend. Choice Scarf helps pull this off. Ex:
Aianto used Befriend!
Dragonite gained Truant!
Dragonite used Fire Blast!
Aianto Fainted!
(Shandera switches in)

Doesn't that seem like a waste of Pokemon spot on your team though?

Besides, has Dream World Aianto even been released yet? If not, this Truant talk is pretty much moot, right?

Yup, the intelligent player will switch out 24 times until Befriend has no PP. =)

To ensure the pattern works, the player MUST switch in Shandera right after using Befriend so that the turn it switches in on is when the befriended Pokémon is loafing around. If you switch after gaining traunt, the opponent would have switched in Shandera.

Once again, you CAN switch on the turn your pokemon would be loafing around. So if your opponent keeps switching while you befriend, they'll have no problem switching in and out on the turn you bring in Shandera. Shandera will most likely die if he's facing an opponent without truant if he's staying in.Also, how is it a waste of a pokemon slot if it enables the sweep of Shandera after +6 SpA, SpD and Spe?

Keep in mind that Aianto itself will have traunt, and cannot use befriend consecutively. Therefore, the opponent can bring in a Pokémon on the turn you are loafing around and kill you.

Also, using a Shandera with calm mind/protect/nitro charge/shadow ball will mean that it will have only 1 special attack, being shadow ball. Shadow Ball cannot hit normal types, and since nitro charge won't be doing much but raising your speed, they can easily wall you. This means that even after continuously using calm mind, protect, and nitro charge, you still end up falling to Buffalon/Meloetta.

Actually, if you spam Befriend with Aianto, you'll either Befriend the incoming pokemon or be slacking off the turn of the switch. In the first scenario, you'd want to die so you could switch in Shandera. In the second scenario you'll outspeed the newly switched in pokemon (unless it's scarfed and faster) and Befriend it before you die. This isn't theorymon; I've tested this extensively.
Your second statement is true; Shandera is walled by Normal-types. How many teams have immediate Normal-Type threats such as Baffuron or Meloetta though?
In addition, I'd like to say that many players will not know about this tactic and won't switch upon seeing Aianto. Therefore, the opponent usually won't switch due to the element of the surprise.

I've used a set called Agility SubLiechi, similar to Empoleon, but on the physical side of the spectrum. Same basic principle, Sub while using Agility to get more speed, then hit with Liechi/Swarm boosted X-Scissor, it can sweep well, especially late game. I can post the set if you feel it could have potential.

I have seen the Befriend-Truant set running around in early PO. It can be outsped by a faster Scarfed special attacker and wasted, or maneuvered around by not attacking the Aianto on the Befriend turn and switching out. Toxic Spikes support will make that Aianto set rather interesting by forcing switches. It can also phaze slow boosting attackers and set up on pokemon locked into Outrage, if they get a third turn of Outrage.

But seriously, that set has got "Troll Freak" written all over it. Can someone say Durr ant?

durant is awnsome i used a jolly life orbed aianto with hone claws iron head x scizor and stone edje and i was preety impressed life orb +hone claws + hustle+stabed attack hits like a truck you can ohko or 2ko most of the pokemons realy scizor may have priority but he can only use bullet punch if the pokemon reists bullet punch scizor is probably slower and will get screwed ainto is faster than the new 108 speed base and he destroys most 108 base pokemons
