Effective Strategies

Okay, I have lately been looking, rather unsuccessfully really, for a great strategy to use in a D/P Team.
So I am wondering, what are your strategy in playing? Do you try to set up as many passive forms of damage as possible? Do you have a Baton Pass-chain? Are you trying to set up a certain Pokemon? Or are you using a Hail-team perhaps?

Both for me, and for inspiration and to get new ideas for all those who wonder, I'd like to know what Strategies the people on Smogon has found most successful on their team, and what they can recommend. Shoot;

(Lord_Sunday; the å is a norwegian letter (we have three extra, æ ø å). It was supposed to be an A there, but it came out as å :p)

Personally, I love whittling down things with passive damage. I usually aim to get Sandstream, Stealth Rock, Spikes if possible, Status, and Knocking Off as many leftys as possible.

I use Ambipom for Fake Out and U-Turn for some more passive damage, and before you know it, the opponent is dying to all these factors.

What is this?^^^
Anyway my stratergy is base your team around one immensly powerful pokemon (or two, who are complimentary) and have the rest dedicated to filling the gaps, adn countering the pokes that counter those two Pokes.

I use 1 of 3 teams: BP Team, Spikes team (lays all Spikes then PHazes to gain more damage) or a Sandstorm team.

The Spikes team really works well. I made the team have 3 PHazers and 1 Pokemon that used Pursuit so it was so cool when they switched in a Pokemon it getting badly poisoned, getting 12% SR damage then 25% Spikes damage to only be switched out again.

My team is based around U-turn. Scouting my oponant and trying to shut down their sweepers, and kill off any pokes which pose a threat to Infernape, who comes in late-game to kill of the weakened pokes.

I use double-powder lead and than set up my tech scizor or calm-mind slowbro, I can swiftswim sweep with kingdra aswell, and the rest are walls.

Stall teams work really well in D/P. I guess it is a strategy, because you stall your opponent out. Stealth Rock was made and more residual damage existed.

Stall teams can basically counter many of the major threats in present day's metagame.

Really? As far as I'm concerned dp is the most offensive metagame. Here there's no safe way to counter everything, so if you play stallish (wall team+residual damage) you will always lose to certain pokes.

Basically strategies haven't changed much from rse times. My best tip would be: know your team perfectly, what it can do and how to handle situations, and don't just get obsessed with setting up a certain strategy. Try to focus on how to break throught your opponent

Bellyzard is what I'm currently working on. However, I'm trying my hardest to resist the idea of using Butterfree(damn you, Firestorm)

I'm actually considering using SPINDA, after a warstory by Infernape Kong. But my team usually contains one Choice Bander, one Choice Specer, one Spiker/Spinner, two walls (one of them tends to be a spiker/spinner), a versatile (non choice) Phys. Sweeper & a versatile Sp. Sweeper.

My Rain Dance Team has been working out the best for me. It is basically 2 set uppers, 1 wall, 2 sweepers and shedinja. The wall and sweepers all have swift swim and shedinja's awesome ability lets it counter about 1/4 of OU. Rain Dance means that it can't be killed by sandstream etc

Me, I use a standard team of power-hitters. Usually, 2 stat-uppers, 2 Choice users, a Mixed Wall, and a Bulky Water. I've won plenty of battles with those teams, but I lost in the same way.

Lately, I lead with double status, usually Gallade (many can pull it off) and try to cripple as much of the opposing team as possible with the support of bulky TWave/WoW pokes until I can pull off a BulkyGyara sweep, or if that fails or is less feasible, MixApe.. both come in and set up easily on statused pokes. I use counter Blissey and Forretress to spin/SR. It's been working very well :]

I use one of two teams, for the most part: All Special and U-Turn.

All Special works really well. As soon as Blissey goes down, it's pretty easy to sweep. Without Blissey, they go down even faster. It rocks.

U-Turn. . . I like this one. CBScizor lead with U-Turn, X-Scissor, Quick Attack, and Pursuit. Basically, if the opponent can't hurt you, U-Turn. If they stay in, you take a hit or let them set up or whatever, then bring in Dugtrio to trap and kill them. It's great seeing Infernape switch into Scizor only to get killed by Dugtrio. I also use Pursuit Weavile/T-Tar, and sometimes Magnezone. Then I just have two walls (Usually at least one has Wish to keep 'Zor alive.)

i really like status users. i like to poison and confuse the enemy and stall them out. burning is good to shut down any physical threats. after the team is crippled, i bring out a monster sweeper with good coverage and try to take things out.

Mainly going into a "New Team" on Shoddy I do alot of different things. I chose a lead and work from there. I cover the leads weaknesses with a Pokemon, and then cover that Pokemon's weaknesses with another, and so on until I have six slots. Hopefully the sixth slot won't further any weaknesses on the team, and I can deal with a "2-weak" perfectly. Meaning, two Pokemon weak to one common type on my team. In doing this, I try to incorperate Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, a Physical Wall, a Special Wall, a Priority Move, and mainly just some support whether it be status or more resudial damage like Spikes or Toxic Spikes. I also try to keep in mind that resistences are a nice thing to have rather than just a Pokemon to eat the attacks, and perhaps can't eat them quite consistently.

That would be my team-building strategy, obviously. As for battling, I just remember what I did during team building as far as weaknesses go. I try to go back to my knowledge of what moves certain Pokemon may carry in terms of the switches I make. I tend to out-predict alot and when I get really into it I start doing fun and risky stuff like double switches or trying to predict switches with choiced pokemon when the move I am using doesn't affect or is NFE against the Pokemon currently in play on my opponent's side.

At first, I just send in whatever makes sense; just stick with counters, not worrying about any single strategies or whatnot. If they're stally, Infernape comes to dismantle them. Sandstorm/hail, get Ludicolo to rain dance as soon as possible. I play like this, hoping to deal some costly hits in the middle. As soon as their team's weak enough, any of my pokes can mop up easily, though Ludicolo, Flygon, or Infernape usually get the job due to their nice speed.

EDIT: Sandstorm, hail, and trick room are effective, because unless the opponent is also set up to fight in that environment, you have an automatic advantage throughout the battle.

TRICKROOMTRICKROOMTRICKROOM

Why? Because that move is like, anti-metagame. Everyone wears Choice Scarf, puts +Spd, max EVs to outrun each other, so why not dismantle all of that? Basically, I run 5 walls, 2 to set up Trick Room to wear down the opponent and a heavy defensive sweeper to finish. Of course, I have to modify my team for OU, but it's brought me great success. Not to mention that a lot of things with low Speed have high enough defenses to last a long time.

I like switching my Uxie in on something that can't do anything to it, and that I can't supposedly do anything too either. Then, I'll Yawn, and either Stealth Rock or U-turn, depending on whether I think they're going to switch. If they stay, I'll U-turn to something like Boah or Nasty Plot Azelf to set up, and if they switch, I'll Protect to scout if it's a choice user or if they're using Pursuit/Crunch. Then I can switch, Yawn, or U-turn based on that move. I seriously think U-turn is the one of the best moves there is - I can't imagine how powerful a STAB CB U-turn from an Adamant Scizor must be...

Ow, I just cut my finger trying to speed-open my knife..
