Heavy_Rain.jpg

Hi everybody, before talking about my team I would like to tell something about me. It's my first RMT so please let me know how to improve this and not only the team; I also need to improve my English so be patient if I made mistake and feel free to highlight them. I started playing competitive just a couple of months ago and I'm not that good playing yet. I decided first of all to try different teams and different strategy that I found on this forum, to figure out what was the best one for me ( for example I understood that I'm not good with stall teamXD). After that I decided to learn how to build a decent team and after a lot of experiment I finally build something that I consider decent and that works for me.
Let's go with the poke:

Team In-Depth

Politoed_2012-06-02.png

Politoed@Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EV's: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Perish song
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- HP [grass]

Politoed is an obvious lead for a drizzle team. I tried different but in the end this one was the one that gives me more synergy with the rest of the team. STAB Hydro pump is devastating and whoever does not kill politoed in one hit ( or does not outspeed him) is hit hard by this move. In the weather war this guys works increadibly well:
- under the rain he can OHKOs all the other weather setter with STAB hydro pump ( exept Abomsnow);
- in the sun he still 2HKOs Ninetales ( OHKO with previous stealth rock damage);
- non-defensive Tyranitar even in sandstorm has 37% to get OHKOed by my frog, all other set still gets 2HKOed;
- Hippowdow can't deal at all with this Politoed even in sandstorm;
- Abomasnow can be annoyng but the other team members can deal very well with him.
Ice beam gives me the chance to hit hard dragons ( after having paralyzed them) and HP [grass] deal with some annoying poke like Gastrodon, Swampert, Quagsire, and so on.
Focus blast was an available option to deal better with Tyranitar but I hate its lack of accuracy and as I already said Hydro Pump does a great job.
In the last slot perish song is a beutyfull move that completely cut off baton pass team and sometimes is also a nice way to deal with opponents last poke.

Jirachi-1.gif

Jirachi@Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EV's:
252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spd
Carefull Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
-
Body slam
- Iron Head
-
U-turn
- Wish

Jirachi in this team is a real core pokemon. He covers different and very important role and he does it very well.

First of all he's the first part of my defensive core; thanks to his great typeing and his bulk he can take very well special attack and if you don't have a ground moves, under the rain is really hard to take this guy down.
Jirachi laughs at dragons who think to sweep with draco meteor and can also face quite well tornadus hurricane that can 3HKO him. Jirachi anyway after having taken a hit does not stare to his opponents without doing anything; I usually use Twave as soon as I can and if this attack lands then the opponent poke is dead. Iron head on a paralyzed poke looks like a deth sentence and while the opponents flich I regain hp thanks to leftovers.
Spreading paralysis in order to kill the opponent or to slow him down is a role that jirachi cover increadibly well even on poke that has already set up or that are banded, scarfed,...
I used to play body slam over thunder wave as this move can deal a little damage and, thanks to serene grace, has 30% to spread par but I realized that I often need to be sure to have my opponent slowed to death so I moved to thunder wave. Even if I can't paralyze ground poke I'm really satisfied by the result of this choice.

Jirachi has also a support role thanks to wish. This move gives me 3 interesting possibilities:
- I can use wish to heal jirachi if I want him to stay on the field longer;
- I can use this and then switch out safely regardless entry hazard or opponent move as the pokemon who will came in will be healed;
- It also works pretty well when I use wish, switch out for a poke that is immune/resistent to opponent pokemon move and get him healed ( usually I use this on Politoed or Virizion).

In the last slot U-turn is a great moves that allows me to scout and sometimes it also gives me the chance to hit hard some pokemon.

Ferrothorn@Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EV's: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

What can I say on this pokemon that everyone does not know already? He's an incredible wall and whatever is not supereffective almost does not hit him. I often throw him in the field wall all the world, use thunder wave, lay down stealth rock, drink a coffe and then switch out or start dealing damage. Thunder wave gives me synergy with Jirachi and opponent does not expect me to use it most of the time so I preferred this over leech seed. Sometimes is a good idea to splash a gyro ball once Ferrothorn switch in to deal with opponents switch that can bring in pokemon like Espeon or with moves like magic bounce ( it does not happen often).
Gyro ball and Power whip are powerfull moves that allow me to deal massive damage to some quiet common pokemon.

starmie.jpg

Starmie@Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EV's: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice beam
- Thunder
- Hydro Pump
- Rapid Spin

Starmie is a wonderfull pokemon and the best spinner in my opinion. I was using a standard set with leftovers and thunder wave over ice beam and I was quite stisfied by the result but after when I move from a choice scarf to a choice specs politoed I realized that I was in need of a revenge killer able to outspeed common scarfed pokemon and I decided to try with starmie. I will never go back to the previous set. This thing is a beast; it outspeed almost everything even after a speed boost and it allow me to deal with an incredible variety of very common pokemon. Scarfed Landourus, scarfed ( or not) Terrakion, scarfed Latios, scarfed moxiemence, DDdragonite ( after one DD dance), Tornadus ( also T form), Thundurus-T ( with hydro pump) and many other are totally owned by this starmie set that can outspeed them and OHKO them. It's also usefull against sun team as he outspeed even under the sun Venusaur, Lilligant and other Clorophyll user. Volcarona after one quiery dance is still slower than starmie and gets OHKOed in the rain and almost always 2HKOed under the sun.
If I need to spin I just switch, use rapid spin and then switch out as Starmie is healed from status on the switch thanks to natural cure and I can restore its hp with a wise played wish.

LordTornadus.png

Tornadus-T@Choice Specs
Trait: Regenerator
EV's: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hurricane
-
U-turn
- Focus blast
-
Sleep talk

Kneel before the almighty power of tornadus-t!
After the defensive-core I started searching for two pokemon that could sweep away opponents and bring me to victory.
I tried different pokemon ( dragonite, volcarona, latios, ...) but when I finally tried him I understood he was perfect for the job. STAB Hurricane with choice specs can't be taken easily by anyone no matter what. Thanks to his incredible speed stats Tornadus-t is able to hit fast and hit hard whoever comes in ( ferrothorn and forretress get 2HKOed too) with a few exeption. I'm not afraid to take damage from entry hazard or from one non supereffective hit as I will regain life on the switch thanks to regenerator.
Focus blast allow me to hit hard Chansey and Blissey that resist well to hurricane and also give me the opportunity to OHKO standard Tyranitar set ( without chople berry) which is great for the weather war.
U-turn is used to keep the attack momentum up and scout and works really well with regenerator.
Sleep talk in the fourth slot can sound like a strange choice but works incredibly well. With this even if I take spore by breloom or some other attack that put me to sleep Tornadus-t does not loose the chance to sweep. I have 1/3 chance to use Hurricane and we know what this means, 1/3 chance to go with focus blast that can deal decent damage and 1/3 chance to U-turn out....not that bad!

150px-640_Virizion.png

Virizion@Lum Berry
Trait: Justified

EV's: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
JollyNature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Leafe Blade
- Stone Edge

Virizion is the guy who complete the team; he fears what my other pokemon deals with and he deals with what my other pokemon fear.
He can easily set up thanks to his speed and his decent bulk and then he start to hit hard who comes in. Annoying pokemon like Ferrothorn, Gastrodon,... are OHKOed by STAB close combat and STAB leafe blade. In order to set up Lum Berry is a huge help as ofte happen that the oppponent try to paralyze or burn Virizion while setting up.
Thanks to his movepool Virizion can hit almost everything in the meta and deal good damage. Stone edge gives me a nice coverage and allow Virizion to stay on the field and keep on smashing opponents pokemon instead of switch out.

Credits
I build this team after having tried almost a hundred of team I found on this forum and this allowed me to build this team so I need to thank almost every smogonian who posted a team here.
Special thanks goes to:
- August for choice specs on tornadus-t and sleep talk in the fourth slot ( they works great);
- Expert physics for Jirachi EVs spread, U-turn in the forth slot and Lum berry over Expert belt to Virizion;
- Earthduster for choice specs politoed idea;
- Whoever rated my team till now.

N.B.
Threats and team history list will be write as soon as I can.

Hi! Nice team.

First off, I would recommend Choice Specs over Sharp Beak on Tornadus. With Specs, Tornadus hits like a truck, and it is fast enough to outspeed pretty much everything in BW OU, so having extra power would be beneficial. Hurricane hits so hard it 2HKOs Skarmory and Ferrothorn. I'd go with U-Turn over Taunt in order to scout, since Tornadus tends to force switches. I would also go with Tailwind instead of Hidden Power Ice. HP Ice is used to beat opponents like Dragonite, but Hurricane already hits hard enough to take it out. Tailwind is useful since thanks to Prankster, it doubles your team's speed which is useful in late-game situations when you're facing a Pokemon having many speed boosts. Another change I would recommend is to change Jirachi's EV spread from 84 HP / 172 Def / 252 SpD to 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe. A specially defensive spread helps you deal with opposing Rain teams, and lets Jirachi tank Hurricanes from opposing Tornadus with more ease. The Speed EVs lets it outspeed Jolly Tyranitar. I'd also replace Thunder Wave by Body Slam, so you can paralyze Ground-type Pokemon. It's also a decent coverage move that deals damage, unlike Thunder Wave. Drain Punch won't be helping against Ferrothorn at all, since without any Attack investment, this non-STAB move won't be dealing much damage to Ferrothorn. Instead, I'd go for U-Turn in order to scout and give your team a switch advantage in certain situations. I think Ferrothorn would benefit from Leech Seed more than Thunder Wave, since Jirachi already provides your team paralysis support and Leech Seed is useful to gain health back, while stalling out your opponent and making their offensive presence less effective. I would also change Thunder Wave to Ice Beam on Starmie. Ice Beam is pretty useful to check Dragon-types and allows you to revenge-kill them thanks to Starmie's amazing speed stat. Again, you already have Jirachi for paralysis support, so Thunder Wave isn't necessary on Starmie. Finally, I'd switch Virizion's item from Expert Belt to Lum Berry. Expert Belt isn't really useful on Virizion, since its moves don't offer too great of a coverage. Lum Berry is useful in order to avoid being crippled by status, and can give you additional Swords Dance boosts if you play correctly. Cool team, and good luck! Hope I helped.

Sun teams can be problematic to your team. Venusaur can easiely kill 5/6 of your team after a growth. And your opponent will certainly have a tornadus-t check. But i cant think of anything to replace. So just put rain dance on tornadus-t.

Hi and thanks for your comment. I'm currently trying your suggestion and Some of them seems to work great. I really appreciate the changes you suggested on Jirachi EVs spread and I will go with that. Body slam is a great idea ( I don't know why I didn't think to that move) but I have some doubt about U-turn as till now it has been totally useless. Tornadus is in his T form ( I'm sorry for the sprit I put in the description but i could not find the right one) so he has not prankster; giving him choice specs would mean lock myself in hurricane 90% of the time and I don't like it as poke that resist to Hurricane like ferrothorn and chansey can Twave me and make tornadus useless.
Lum berry is a great item on virizion, definitely better then expert belt so I'll go with that. I also would like to ask what you think about replacing him with a DDmoxie Scrafty. He needs a turn more to set up but has a greater moves coverage and after 2 DDance can outspeed and sweep loads of stuff ( after 3 is basically gg), resist most of the prio moves and can heal himself with drain punch.
I know leech seed on ferrothorn is nice but Twave saved my ass so many times that I'm not brave enough to remove that; what about removing stealth rock instead? Is it insane?
I know that Ice beam is probably the wisest choice on starmie but I miss Ice beam almost only against pure dragon type poke as thunder deals enough damage to dragon-flying poke to 2HKO. Anyway it's true that without ice beam I can't deal with latios and latias wich are really popular so it's a though decision; it's depends from situation and battles.
I'm really glad someone commented my team thanks for your time and your help. Hope you'll do it again.

Indian you are right about my sunteam weakness but till now I almost always won the weather war against sun team so the porblem of venusaur never showed up. I will give rain dance a shot anyway :-).

Oh, sorry, I thought it was just a regular Tornadus. Here's the Tornadus-T sprite, if you want to add it to your thread. It will help other team raters! :>

i would definitely use choice specs starmie over your current starmie set, as it hits extremely hard and beats the sun/sand weather starters if they try to switch in thinking you're a standard set. you can keep rapid spin and simply run Surf / TBolt / Ice Beam / Rapid Spin and also get rocks/spikes/tspikes off if its absolutely crucial. The only "safe" switch ins are opposing ferrothorn and gastrodon, both of which you have covered reasonably well with virizion.

i agree with whoever said to use choice specs on the tornado mon. you also definitely want to ditch hp ice when you switch to specs and go for u turn. u turn allows you to keep offensive momentum up, ie: they go to tar and you can u turn out right to politoed to help aid yourself in winning the weather war. specs tornadus-t is also incredible because of regenerator, meaning if you can't necessarily spin away rocks with starmie you can still spam tornadus t. in the last slot, since feasibly you should be ditching taunt, i'd probably run sleep talk. tornadus-t can take sleep from breloom and amoongus and use sleep talk, giving him a 2/3rds chance to ohko loom and a 1/3 chance to ohko amoongus, while there is also a 1/3rd chance he can merely u-turn out.

something else you can do is run cm jirachi over your paralysis jirachi set. cm/flash cannon/wish/thunder gives you an oppurtunity to spam paralysis moves just like your current set, while also being able to sweep in rain. wish support can also be thrown to politoed when heatran comes in, giving you more longevity and helping you to win the weather war, so your tornadus is free to spam hurricane the whole game.

hope that helped!!

Nice side.

Like has already been said, Hurricane 2KOes Ferrathorn from Specs, remember it's neutral against him due to his Grass typing.

Maybe try out Toxicroak or Volcarona ? Volcarona would allow you to smash Sun teams pretty nicely, and can carry Hurricane also.

Last thing is, the weather war. A few of your sets are harshly treated by Sand, the cut to 50% accuracy on the Thunder & Hurricane, as well as the fact that Thunderwave could be taken by ground types could leave you at a disadvantage.

But really the team looks nice and good, and it's impossible to make a perfect rain team with no leaks (pardon the pun), because otherwise Rain would be pretty much unstoppable.

I'm really glad that you guys spent time to comment my team and found it nice so first of all I want to thank you.
I already tried volcarona over tornadus but I found tornadus better because of his speed and STAB hurrican which hit harder than 'rona ones.
Toxicroak is a viable option and I will try him over Virizion but this way I'll get another poke weak under the sun ( because of his trait). Anyway he deserves a shot.
I found really interesting the jirachi set August wrote and I'll definitely try that out even if I loose the para-flinch opportunity that my current set gave me.
I think that as Starmie is my only spinner choice specs are not a great idea even if he would be like another sweeper with that.
As you all suggest to use a choice specs tornadus, and as I found it better than my set about 60% of the time I'll move to that. The last slot is not easy to fill but sleep talk is a nice idea.
I realized that I'm a little weak to Jolteon what about terrakion with rock polish/ sword dance/ close combat/ Stone edge over virizion? He's probably a better sweeper but this way I would loose the usefull Stab leaf blade and ferrothorn can deal serious damage to me with gyro ball and power whip.
Thanks a lot for rating, you all helped a lot

What about Deoxis-D instead of Ferrothorn?? He's really fragile against sun team...

I've been seeing Kingdras flying around all the time, so Ferro is pretty much a must.

Unfortunately your team lacks a better scarfer, which means you're pretty much forced into using ScarfToed - if you had room for SpecsToed, this would make the weather war that much easier. Terrakion also does a very nice job of threatening out opposing Ferrothorn and can do a number on Gastro, and does well against opposing weather (including hail, which can really annoy this team). If you're worried about Ferrothorn, CM Jirachi sets up on it all day.

Spikes > Thunder Wave imo, Bulldoze is also an option for Mag/opposing Jirachi.

Good luck!

It's really a matter of personal preference. Some people find SpecsToed really shitty, although personally I find it incredible. I would test both options and see which one suits you more.

Scrafed starime seems to work well as she allows me to counter loads of things like scarfed landorus, scarfed or not terrakion, Volcarona ( that I outspeed even after a quiery dance so I can 2HKO him even under the sun), tornadus and also his T form and so on.... She also allow me to revenge kill sun abuser like venasaur or lilligant under the sun and latios even if scarfed thanks to ice beam. Unfortunately this way she becomes less effective as a support.
Specs toed is better against sun team and works nicely in the weather war as he OHKO tyr even in sandstorm and has a 28% chance to OHOK ninetales even in sun. I still like more the scarfed version but if I'll keep scarfed starmie then I will go with specs on him.

This isn't an actual suggestion to add to your side, but have your Tried Specs Latios on your side ? Surf hit's like a truck in the rain, and obvious DM specs destroys anything not steel. The beauty of him is, He can hit hard with DM no matter what the weather, and needs no set-up. Can be useful to have around, but I'm not sure freeing up a teamslot for him is needed unless you want to trial him out.

You could run HP fire for Ferra, the rain only negates the x4 weakness to x2. A max HP/SDef Ferra with leftovers is a straight 3KO with Spec'd HP Fire. But that move only deals more damage to Ferra in the rain. Obviously out of the rain it's the better option.
