Evolving Trade-Evo Pokémon

I've been told that there's a GTS-related glitch which allows me to evolve the likes of Machoke, Kadabra and such without actually trading with anyone. I've searched the Smogon forums, but I haven't found anything. Can anyone confirm/deny the existence of this glitch, and in the case of the former, explain how it's performed?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Ooh, snap. I just realized I could have posted this in the Q&A thread. I'm not sure if this glitch warrants a thread of its own.

1) Put Pokemon up for trade with an impossible request.
2) Fulfill a trade via seek.
3) Take out Pokemon.

I've done it a few times.

I don't understand the second step. "Fulfill via seek"? What does this mean? (I'm really, really new to D/P)

I heard about this glitch, and I tried it without actually trying to get something off the GTS first.
I'll go evolve this useless Gligar and see if it works. :O
EDIT: Nope, didn't work for me the first time. Are you sure that you're supposed to complete ANY trade?

Well, you put the pokemon you want to evolve up for trade. In the case of gligar, doesn't that evolve by level up at night? This only works for pokemon that evolve through trading.
1) Put the pokemon (that evolves by trading) up for trade - make sure you put up some kind of impossible trade so you don't risk losing the pokemon
2) Complete a trade by using the search option (can choose ANY trade as long as you do a trade)
3) Withdraw the pokemon that you put for trade

Oh, no wonder my Gligar didn't evolve. I thought I evolved if you traded it while it held the Razor Fang. *slaps self*
I'll try it some other time.

I wish finding a random trade was easier. The system would be like 50% better if there was an option to say like "I have a Level 6 Abra to trade, who is offering what for a 9- Abra?"

It worked for me. I have a Scizor that evolved when I put it up for trade and then traded my newly hatched Dratini for a Turtwig.

if you clone the poke via gts it evolve when you take it back

so if you put a rhydon with a protector, and succesfully clone it, you get one rhypherior and one rhydon with a protector

i evolve a kadabra once in the past, so i known for true that this work

Ugh, you don't get two pokemon back, only the evolved one.

ok i dont write it clear.. you get one rhypherior back and one rhydon with protect in your pc..

i was trying to say that doing the cloning glitch you dont lose the item.. oppose to just doing a random trade

edit:to rodan.. im 90% sure that if you fail to clone then the poke not evolve.. maybe im wrong i just try this once.. but im almost sure that when i was trying to evolve the kadabra i fail once or twice and only when i succesfully clone it i get an alakazam
so from the item point of view is very safe

Um, I've cloned Rhydons with protectors before. When I took them out, they were still Rhydons with protectors.
Basically what you're saying is the utilization of 2 glitches at once.
- You clone first and after turning off the DS
- Then you return back to the GTS
- You trade through the "search" option, ignoring the pokemon that you cloned completely
- And finally, you take back the pokemon (in this case the Rhydon w/ Protector) that you cloned.
- The pokemon evolves and thus, you've saved yourself a protector because you've already cloned a Rhydon w/ a Protector

That's what you meant right? Because from what I read, it sounded like you can't clone pokemon that evolve through trades (i.e. Kadabra) because when you take them back out, they evolve...

Just trying to make things clearer XP

Well, I suppose that could make things a little easier on the trainer. There's only one Protector in the game, right? So if you want to evolve your EV trained Rhydon, but still want to keep a Protector just in case, then you could use that method.

umm im certanly sure that i didnt search for any poke meanwhile i was cloning kadabra.. maybe the item pokes need more step or a more exactly timming.. im going test it...

Deposit A poke.

Make a trade.

withdraw poke.

Deposit evo pokemon w/ item.

Attempt clone.
1 evolved, 1 w/ item in box.

I just did a cloning of haunter and i didn't make a trade. Somehow, it evolved when I took it out (a successful clone too). I wonder under what conditions cloning actually allows something to evolve....

It might have something to do with having to recall the backup file. The reason why cloning is even possible is because the internet takes your Pokemon a split second before your cartridge finishes saving the fact that your Pokemon is no longer with you. Cloning causes the game to recall its backup file which still has the Pokemon with you, but GTS had taken the Pokemon anyways. Theyre separate entities, your cart data and WiFi data...

I think your cartridge keeps track of the GTS data, so it knows when you deposited something. If this is true, then it explains evolving clones. When you clone, you made the cartridge think that you haven't deposited something, so when you take the clone out, the game thinks that you are getting it from somewhere else, thus trade evo Pokes evolve...
