In a spiky nutshell, Ferrothorn serves as one of the most reliable Spikes setters in SS Ubers. Thanks to its excellent typing and good bulk, Ferrothorn can set Spikes against a plethora of physical threats such as Yveltal, Necrozma-DM, and Groundon. With Iron Defense + Body Press, it can check meta-defining wallbreakers such as Dragon Dance Zekrom and Choice Band Dracovish, as well as force out Yveltal. Leech Seed keeps Ferrothorn healthy, even if its Leftovers gets removed, and it wears down foes with residual damage. Lacking Special Defense investment, this set needs checks to Xerneas and Kyogre, which can be found in Blissey and Eternatus; Blissey serves as a cleric, while Eternatus offers a more offensive answer. Wallbreakers like Choice Band Rayquaza and Choice Specs Kyogre appreciate Spikes wearing down their checks; Rayquaza can 2HKO defensive Zygarde-C with Dragon Claw after a layer of Spikes. Kyogre also appreciates Ferrothorn's ability to check Zekrom, and its rain helps Ferrothorn survive Fire-type attacks.

Thanks to its excellent typing and good bulk, it can setup its Spikes against a plethora of physical threats such as Yveltal, Necrozma-DM, and Groudon, and it blanket checks metagame defining wallbreakers such as Dragon Dance Zekrom and Choice Band Dracovish through Iron Defense + Body Press, which in particular easily forces Yveltal out as Roost leaves it weak to Body Press's Fighting-typing. Iron Barbs punishes contact moves like Sunsteel Strike and Knock Off, and (unnecessary cause you'd never run Anticipation) Leech Seed increases the passive damage while it keeps Ferrothorn healthy (change wording to say that it keeps Ferrothorn healthy even if its item is removed by Knock Off which is very common). Lacking special investment, this set needs checks to Xerneas and Kyogre, which can be found in Blissey and Eternatus, the first one providing Cleric support, while Eternatus offers an appreciated offensive answer.
