VGC [FINALISED] Xerneas Rampage VGC 2016 edition (my ideas for the new metagame)

Why are you completely throwing away Primal Groudon's amazing base 180 Attack? You have the special attacking roles covered by Salamanca and Xerneas just fine.

He also has physical attacking roles well covered by salamence kangaskhan and somewhat liepard. Nothing can really wall special groudon apart from kyogre,+2/+2/+2 xerneas and dragon types mainly palkia.His team covers really well for that so special is definitely fine .

Draconid, have u tested Talonflame over Crobat? I have a similar team like this and Xerneas/Mence/Kangas are supported better w Tflame, it has access to WoW to burn other Kang(if u fake out w your kang), ,Tailwind if need speed control, Quick Guard, and priority Brave Bird can 2OHKO POgre, Xerneas and other common threats
 
Tbh i havent played this team in a while, but talonflame sounds like a great idea :D i had decided on crobat purely because of its ability to check xerneas, but the offensive pressure that talonflame contributes sounds interesting :)

On coming back to the team after a while of not running it, i noticed that in the previous update i had substituted a lot of the team's offensive presence for techy strategies etc, so after trying out all your amazing advice, this is the new team:

in short:
- changed round a few spreads
- added ferrothorn over liepard since it can check xerneas even after it has set up, also checks kyogre
- added kangaskhan back in over mega salamence since the team lacked fake out support since liepard was gone
- added talonflame after PkAlvaro's suggestion, since it does all of what crobat did (apart from avoiding flinches) whilst improving the matchup versus gengar/whimsicott strategies

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura

EVs: 172 HP / 28 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 52 Spe
Modest Nature

Serapis' suggested spread, this team is largely based around supporting xerneas, so this spread is more optimal than a timid set, so thanks for the suggestion :)

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
Level: 50
EVs: 28 HP / 4 Def / 220 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power

This is a more offensive groudon spread, inspired again by Serapis. It survives a +2 timid xerneas HP ground (and grass knot), and the rest of the EVs go into the offenses.

this is a spread that was suggested to me by someone on nugget bridge, this spread will always be 3HKO'd by a +2 modest xerneas moonblast (after leftovers recovery), with the rest in attack. Power whip with 60 Atk will always 2HKO primal kyogre (and lets face it, this is the best ferrothorn can do, since it will need at least 220+ Atk to KO a 4 HP / 0 Def kyogre, so this will do fine, and gyro ball will 2HKO all xerneas spreads, with a 37.5% chance to OHKO max speed xerneas

Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Taunt
- Tailwind
- Quick Guard

Thanks to PkAlvaro for this, talonflame rounds out this team really nicely, with a pretty similar role to crobat whilst supporting the team vs gengar/whimsicott, something that crobat really couldnt do well. Pretty standard spread, with taunt over flare blitz since i already have groudon for steel types and the team lacks a taunt user.

I will edit this new team into the OP a bit later for newcomers to the thread, and any further constructive comments will still be really appreciated :)

A few recent team changes after looking over it:

- Changed the spread to 4 HP / 172 Atk / 76 Def / 4 SpD / 252 Spe to survive low kick from jolly kang

- Changed the spread to 12 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 236 Spe since the other spread failed to OHKO bulky groudon (up to 252 HP / 60 Def), the defence will still survive CB landorus-t earthquake and +2 timid xerneas HP ground most of the time
- Fire Blast>Flamethrower to secure the OHKO on crobat

- Magic Coat>Protect to deal with smeargle
- Changed the spread to 252 HP / 116 Def / 4 SpA / 116 SpD / 20 Spe after revising damage calcs, this is the spread I was aiming for, the other had a load of miscalcs in it
- Thunder Wave>Tailwind to deal with opposing tailwind/xerneas etc better

Now that you have this team finalized you should put it in the sample team thread as it is VERY well made. The only last change I would make is changing Life Orb to Sharp Beak as LO does absolutely nothing but get you killed faster while Sharp Beak still gives you that extra damage

I will post the team on the sample teams thread this afternoon, and sharp beak sounds like a great idea, although i was thinking of swapping talonflame out for crobat for extra support vs xerneas and smeargle
