First Attempt at OU

First of all, I would like to say how great this site has been of help to me in building a team first of all. I have used this site many times as a reference and I finally decided to give it a shot at competetive battling. I would like to give thanks in advance to the people willing to rate this team and help me become a better battler. Well enough for the intro, lets move on to the main stars.

gliscor2.png

Gliscor aka. "DARKNIGHT"
Leftovers
Sand Veil
Jolly
252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Roost

I have always liked Gligar and when it could evolve into a massive wall like Gliscor I was thrilled. Most other leads in OU start off with SR. I want to try to take a different approach by not allowing my opponents to set up with Taunt and then use Toxic. If they switch out their lead, Toxic still hits them and I gain an advantage. Roost is for recovering in the late game and Earthquake hits hard. It can OHKO and 2HKO many other threats like Lucario, Tyranitar and Metagross (the latter with 2HKOs). Overall, Gliscor would be more effect against a stall team and try to wear them down.

drifblim.png

Drifblim aka. "L2DRIFT~"
Leftovers
Aftermath
Calm
80 HP / 252 SpD / 176 Spe
- Baton Pass
- Stockpile
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball

Before I start, to add in a little bit of trivia, the "L2" in its nickname stands for "Learn to" making its nickname really "Learn to Drift". I was inspired to use Drifblim after I saw one video on youtube that showed its strength in Baton Passing major special/defense raises and gignatic Substitutes. With its huge HP, it can withstand a few Choice Band hits while setting up to pass it to my Gliscor or my...

dusknoir-246x219.png

Dusknoir aka. "FAY JAI"
Lum Berry
Pressure
Impish
252 HP / 28 Atk / 252 Def
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch

Before I start talking about its uses, I would like to again educate you the origin of its nickname. "Fay Jai" in cantonese (I'm Chinese) means "Fat Boy" and thats exactly what this is. After receiving the Stockpile/Substitute pass from Drifblim, Dusknoir becomes really and I mean REALLY hard to take down. Will-O-Wisp is standard for any Dusknoir thats not a sweeper. Pain Split adds to the "hard to take down" stragety. It recovers health while stealing it from others. Ice/Fire Punch are coverage moves. I am considering to switch Pain Split for Thunderpunch however.

Togekiss aka. "ITS A BIRD"
Choice Scarf
Serene Grace
Modest
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball

Before you start wondering, yes its suppose to be from Superman.
Anyways, we finally get to the sweepers or attackers of the team. 60% flinch from Air Slash is what made me choose Togekiss. It can drive an opponent crazy and dish out heavy blows. It covers a wide range of pokemon and if not, flinching opponents is never bad.

magnezone.png

Magnezone aka. "(*·w*w·*)"
Life Orb
Magnet Pull
Naive
40 Atk / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Explosion

The nickname is suppose to be a face with 3 eyes (Magnezone has 3 eyes). Either way, this Magnezone is meant to trap in steel types such as Skarmory, and Forretress. Substitute allows me an extra turn before a big threat shows up which allows me to explode. Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon are there for STAB and knocking something out.

mamoswine.png

Mamoswine aka. "TERASTODON"
Choice Band
Snow Cloak
Adamant
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Ice Shard
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Superpower

If you were wondering, the nickname comes from a card from a game called "Magic The Gathering" which I play as well. Mamoswine is the main sweeper in my team. He has huge attacks and good type coverage. Ice Shard for pesky dragons like Salamence, Flygon and Dragonite or Gliscors. Stone Edge for any fire or flying types. Earthquake hits everything hard. Superpower is for Blissey and Snorlax.

So thats basically my team in a nutshell. I hope you were entertained and now you can give back some advice. Below are a list of the current OUs used. Orange font indicats the pokemon I'm 50/50 confident on taking down. Red font indicates the pokemon I'm worried about and not sure hw to bring down.

Threat List (Taken from Team Sugarless Girl)

dpiconani212.gif
Scizor: Magnezone can trap it and start hitting. If it gets bad, explode! Togekiss can also flamethrower while Dusknoir can fire punch.

dpiconani373.gif
Salamence: Doesn't stand a chance against my Mamoswine's ice shard, Dusknoir can ice punch too if needed.

dpiconani130.gif
Gyarados: Not a threat. Magnezone (Thunderbolt) Mamoswine (Stone edge) Dusknoir (Thunderpunch)

Ani479OMS.png
Rotom: Togekiss has shadow ball and so does Drifblim.
dpiconani485.gif
Heatran: Earthquaked by Mamoswine or Gliscor. Magnezone would not want to trap this so he can explode. Togekiss gets in with Aura Sphere too.

dpiconani380.gif
Latias: Shadow ball from Togekiss or Drifblim. Ice shard from Mamoswine
dpiconani376.gif
Metagross: Not a threat. Leads are stopped by my Gliscor, if it wants to explode, I can predict and switch into Drifblim to start stockpile/substitute. Mamoswine earthquake hits hard too.

dpiconani448.gif
Lucario: Not a threat. Earthquake from Gliscor/Mamoswine.

dpiconani392.gif
Infernape: Block by my Gliscor's earthquake. Togekiss could also Air Slash it.
dpiconani385.gif
Jirachi: Earthquake from Mamoswine/Gliscor
dpiconani094.gif
Gengar: Drifblim can withstand its blows and Shadow ball. Togekiss also shadow balls.
dpiconani260.gif
Swampert: Here is my first problem. Not really sure how to handle. Just toxic and attack hard?
dpiconani242.gif
Blissey: Superpower from my Mamoswine. Aura Sphere from Togekiss.
dpiconani482.gif
Azelf: Shadow ball from Togekiss.

dpiconani121.gif
Starmie: Too many ways to deal with it. Togekiss (Shadow ball) Magnezone (Thunderbolt) Dusknoir (Thunderpunch)
dpiconani472.gif
Gliscor: Ice Shard from Mamoswine, ice punch from Dusknoir.
dpiconani134.gif
Vaporeon: Thunderbolt from Magnezone or Thunderpunch from Dusknoir
dpiconani462.gif
Magnezone: Earthquake from Mamoswine.
dpiconani230.gif
Kingdra: Not too confident in taking it down. I do have ice punch, thunderpunch, thunderbolt, ice shard but would it be enough?
dpiconani286.gif
Breeloom: Togekiss absolutely covers him. Air slash, flamethrower and its over.
dpiconani227.gif
Skarmory: Trapped by my Magnezone. Thunderbolt away or Togekiss can flamethrower.
dpiconani437.gif
Bronzong: Again trapped by Magnezone. Explode or flamethrower from Togekiss.
dpiconani251.gif
Celebi: Togekiss covers him too. Air slash, flamethrower AND shadow ball.
dpiconani330.gif
Flygon: Ice shard from Mamoswine and ice punch from Dusknoir.
dpiconani245.gif
Suicune: Thunderbolt from Magnezone. Toxic helps bring it down too.
dpiconani135.gif
Jolteon: Blocked by Gliscor and Mamoswine's earthquake.
dpiconani395.gif
Empoleon: Earthquake or Superpower from Mamoswine.
dpiconani205.gif
Forretress: Flamethrower from Togekiss or fire punch from Dusknoir.
dpiconani466.gif
Electivire: Earthquake from Gliscor and Mamoswine.
dpiconani468.gif
Togekiss: Stone edge from Mamoswine. Thunderbolt/thunder/ice punch/ice shard works too.
dpiconani461.gif
Weavile: Mamoswine can earthquake or superpower.
dpiconani142.gif
Aerodactyl: Thunderbolt from Magnezone. Ice Shard from Mamoswine works too as well as Stone edge. Dusknoir can thunder/ice punch.
dpiconani473.gif
Mamoswine: Superpower from my own Mamoswine.
dpiconani143.gif
Snorlax: Superpower from Mamoswine. A few Aura Spheres from Togekiss too.
dpiconani477.gif
Dusknoir: Shadow ball from Togekiss or Drifblim.
dpiconani235.gif
Smeargle: Superpower from Mamoswine.
dpiconani291.gif
Ninjask: Flamethrower from Togekiss.
dpiconani073.gif
Tentacruel: Earthquake from Mamoswine or Gliscor. Thunderbolt from Magnezone or Thunderpunch from Dusknoir
dpiconani149.gif
Dragonite: Ice shard from Mamoswine. Ice punch from Dusknoir.
dpiconani450.gif
Hippowdon: A bit worried. Mamoswine is the only thing that can handle him but will ice shard be enough? Maybe Dusknoir's ice punch.
dpiconani407.gif
Roserade: Togekiss can flamethrower or air slash.
dpiconani474.gif
Porygon-z: Superpower from Mamoswine
dpiconani488.gif
Cresselia: I have one myself so I know exactly how annoying it can get. Toxic from Gliscor to bring it down and just hit it with everything I have. Mainly Togekiss's shadow ball.
dpiconani214.gif
Heracross: Togekiss can air slash.
dpiconani197.gif
Umbreon: Superpower from Mamoswine or Aura Sphere from Togekiss.
dpiconani065.gif
Alakazam: Shadow ball from Togekiss. Ice shard maybe enough to take it down too from Mamoswine.

Overall, I like the idea of this team. Drifblim is really fun to use and can make excellent substitutes if your opponent isn't careful. You'll have to be cautious of Whirlwind and Roar, though.
On the other hand, I would suggest making Magnezone more of a Revenge Killer for Steel-Types. Hidden Power Fire should replace either Substitute or Explosion, the latter requiring your Attack EVs to go into either Speed or HP. Hidden Power Fire basically takes care of all Steel-Types, bar Heatran, in which you should get out of there anyway.

Also, Dusknoir isn't considered too good in OU. I would suggest using Rotom-H instead.

Rotom-H
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/ 168 Def / 88 Spe
Moveset:
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Overheat
Will-O-Wisp

This set allows you to take care of your Cresselia problem and burn Swampert, which is always nice. Hippowdon also hates being burned, especially Curse sets. Finally, Kingdra can't stand Will-O-Wisp or repeated Thunderbolts since Will-O-Wisp makes Kingdra's sweeping much harder to do.

Overall, this isn't a bad team. Keep up the work and I hope that this has helped.

Many of the pokemon on hue threat list can be cured by the use of several pokemon

I would suggest a better wall say swampert or blissey or even skarmory

I would also suggest scizor and tytar since they are the most reknowned OUs that have never or ever let anyone down in a decent OU battle

if you want to create a half stall half offensive team, get skarmory with spikes and whirlwind, forretress with EXPLO, rapid spn, spikes and payback, umbreon win toxic protect and 2 filler moves, blissey as your wall, and rotom as stated above

overall, a decent OU team should include rotom tytar and forretress incase your foe uses walls or stalls

@Jenica
I agree that the Rotom would help out very much. Also I realized that when facing my friend, his Rotom caused me trouble too. This way be the thing that gives my team an edge against it.

@Willerz2
I have also considered having a Scizor or Tyranitar on my team. They are waiting in my PC box. I tend to rotate different pokemon around since when I battle my friend, it gets too predictable and boring after facing the same team a few times again and again.

Overall, I guess I can take out my Dusknoir and replace him with a Rotom and see how my baton passing shenanigans will turn out. Thank you both for the help. More feedback is greatly appreciated as well.

Ok, this team is massacred by a number of threats, such as Heatran, Infernape and offensive Water types. You don't have a single resistance to Fire, so Heatran can simply switch into any of your Ghosts, your Togekiss locked into Flamethrower or your Mamoswine locked into Ice Shard then nuke your team with a powerful Fire Blast. You really seem to be underestimating how much of a threat Heatran is to your team, as none of your answers to it can safely switch in. Likewise, you're underestimating the threat Infernape poses. Infernape outspeeds Gliscor and usually packs HP Ice so that is not a good way to counter Infernape. Whilst your Togekiss can revenge kill it, it can't switch in and attempting a safe revenge kill will always result in loss of a team member. The biggest case of underestimating how much of a threat something is to your lies in Gyarados. You claim it is not a threat, but it most certainly is. Your Magnezone is not a reliable counter to Gyarados, as Gyarados can simply Earthquake your Magnezone and continue its rampage. Your Mamoswine is weak to Gyarados' STAB Waterfall, so that won't work. Also, your Dusknoir doesn't have Thunderpunch, that means your only way of dealing with Gyarados is Dusknoir's Will-O-Wisp, but even that can be foiled through Taunt. Finally, Starmie seems to be a problem, as it can simply spam Hydro Pump and badly damage your team.

Since you are in dire need of a counter to these threats, as well as resistances to Fire and Water, a Vaporeon will greatly benefit your team over Drifblim.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers | Bold
188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
Surf / HP Electric / Wish / Protect

I don't think that Drifblim would be particularly useful to your team. Due to the prevelance of Choice Scarf Tyranitar, it'll be difficult for Drifblim to get a successful Baton Pass happening. Besides, you're not even taking of Drifblim's more unique qualities, namely Unburden. Vaporeon provides a valuable Fire resistance and Water immunity, and can use Wish + Protect to heal off any damage it may have taken along the way. It can also use Wish to heal the rest of your team, particularly Magnezone, who is using Substitute which drains its HP. Gyarados won't be getting past Vaporeon anytime soon due to its massive HP and moderate Defense, and Vaporeon can kill off Gyarados with HP Electric.

In order to continue solidifying your defense, I'm going to recommend a Latias over Togekiss here.

Latias @ Choice Scarf | Timid
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
Draco Meteor / Surf / Thunderbolt / Trick

I think Latias would be a more productive member than Togekiss for several reasons. 1) It packs better resistances and defenses, so it can switch into more foes such as Starmie, and revenge kill them. 2) Dragon is a much better offensive type than Flying, only having one resistance while Flying doesn't heavily harm the most common Pokemon in the metagame. 3) It is faster and can revenge kill Speed boosting sweepers, unlike Togekiss, who barely falls short of outspeeding Gyarados after a Dragon Dance. 4) It can reliably run Trick without losing much coverage, making it much more adept against Blissey.

Now for some small changes. You lack Stealth Rock which is quite frankly a problem, since every team requires it, it really is useful support, turning many 3HKOs into 2HKOs. I suggest you make a couple of changes to your Gliscor set. I suggest trying out Stealth Rock and U-turn over Taunt and Toxic. Stealth Rock is self-explanatory. The purpose of U-turn is to break Focus Sashes and go to Latias to kill off the opposing lead.

Some edits to your Magnezone will be needed. Your Magnezone isn't exactly geared for survival, since it quickly damages itself with both Substitute and Life Orb. It also has Explosion, which instantly kills it off. This is bad because Magnezone is your only Steel-type, so I don't think going boom will be the best option. I'd like you to use Leftovers as your item and HP Grass over Explosion. HP Grass hurts the Ground-types that are immune to Thunderbolt, particularly Swampert, who you have problems with.

Finally, I'd like you to use a Life Orb on your Mamoswine. You won't really lose many important KOs, and you also won't be vulnerable to set-up due to Choice Band's locking effect. I also want you to consider a Jolly nature over an Adamant nature. Again, you won't lose many important KOs, and you also have the bonus of outspeeding Adamant Lucario and Timid Heatran.

Just one last thing, I'll avocate Jenica's suggestion of Rotom-A, it's a much better defensive Ghost than Dusknoir.

Good luck with your team.

Thanks for the help and I will change out the Drifblim for a Vaporeon. However, I'm not too fond of using Latias. Would a Salamence/Dragonite be a better replacement?
