First Attempts at a Competitive OU Team

I'm totally new to competitive battling, but after about 2 hours of using Shoddy Battle and battling competitively, I think I've found a team that works pretty well, and I've been winning often with it. I've toyed with Salamence, Jirachi, and Metagross, but got severly walled by Water types by the latter two, and found Flygon to work better than Salamence for it's Electricity immunity. Team as follows (sprites from http://arkeis.com/pokemonfactory.htm):

aerodactyl.png

Aerodactyl (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

A simple lead, usually starts with Taunt, then Stealth Rock. Gets up the rocks 9/10 times, and 9/10 times prevents opponent from using Stealth Rock. Rarely kills anyone, but by putting up Stealth Rock and keeping it away from my side makes it a lot easier to set up some others for a sweep, especially Gyrados and Waterfall.

gyarados.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP/108 Atk/100 Def/144 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
- Taunt

Gives some added versatility with the Water typing, and after a Dragon Dance or two can be an effective sweeper against anything but those resistant to it. I aslo use switch to Gyrados against Blisseys. Not the best switch in, but Blissey walls the rest of my team pretty bad. Especially factoring Stealth Rock damage, it can usually take down at least 1 Pokemon, and up to 3 if the opponent's team is weakened a bit.

gengar.png

Gengar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Focus Blast

I found the Choice Scarf to work better than the Life Orb, as otherwise I have a tough time dealing with the ever-popular Azelf. Hidden Power Fire OHKO's Scizor, which also walls the rest of my team pretty well, excluding Flygon. Is a great late-game sweeper, but also works well coming in after Aerodactyl faints to take out leads such as Azelf or Infernape.

flygon.png

Flygon (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk/176 Spd/82 SAtk
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
- U-turn

I found this to work better than Salamance, just for it's added resistances, which either force my opponent to switch out and giving me a shot at U-Turn, or giving myself a slight advantage. It's a much easier switch-in as well, and can do pretty good damage.

mamoswine.png

Mamoswine (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Stone Edge
- Blizzard

Ice Shard is a great attack against any of the dragons and Flying types that often show up, and I usually use Mamoswine as a revenge killer, as Earthquake takes out majority of the Steel walls excluding Brongzong, and Blizzard provides a heavier attack to those that are resistant to Earthquake and Stone Edge. Usually takes out 1-2 Pokemon selectively, and does not work well as a sweeper unless Ice Shard can be used against weakened Pokemon not resistant to it.

jolteon.png

Jolteon (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Baton Pass
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt

Takes out most Water types that would otherwise wall my team, as well as Gengar. Hidden Power Grass works well against Tyranitar if Gyrados is fainted, and Baton Pass works nicely if my predictions are correct, setting up Gyrados against a Rock or Ground type switch in.

So I've basically sapped as much knowledge out of this site and put it into my team, and it seems to perform well. However, it gets walled pretty bad my Bronzong if Flygon is out, and a lot of Water and Steel types also wall this is Mamoswine can't use Earthquake.

Thanks for any help.

If your considering Metagross, switch him to the lead spot and take out Aerodactyl. Metagross vaguely does the same job as Aerodactyl. But the main reason he is such a popular lead is his bulkiness and sweeping prowess. Metagross is very resistant to most leads and can often KO them quite quickly, A Bullet Punch from Metagross is enough to 1-2HKO your common Aerodactyl, Although Meteor Mash is a definite 1HKO, I'm quite sure.

Lead Metagross@ Occa Berry
Adamant Nature [+Atk - S.Atk]
Ev Spread: 252 HP, 236 Attack, 12 Defense, 8 Speed
[Althought I usually run 236 HP, 252 Attack, 8 Defense, 12 Speed (12 Speed so it will usually outrun your common Metagross)]

- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash/Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion

The Aim of this is to set up Stealth Rock.
Then KO your lead if they are neutral/weak against Steel type moves.
If a threat switches in, then you explode.

Also,
You might want to consider using Bounce (Learned from Platinum move tutor) on Gyarados as it does around %85 damage to your standard Celebi if I remember correctly.

^Like NckG said, if you want Metagross then put it as your lead.
If you want Infernape, put it in over Flygon, I recommend the LO+4 move MixApe.

Your team is littered with choice users. To possibly remedy this you could put Life Orb on Mamoswine, it still hits very hard, and maybe Choice Scarf on Flygon (if you keep it) to act as a scout with U-Turn.
