First OU Team (Still a Noob)

images

Gliscor (F) @ Leftovers (Lead)
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Taunt

I lead with gliscor for a few reasons. For one he can taunt, two he can
stealth rocks, and three he can use STAB earthquake which is good
for taking out steel leads such as heatran and bronzong. He is also
pretty fast and bulky and gives me an edge against a lot of slower
stealth rock leads because i can get my taunt up.

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Next I decide to use a scarfed magnezone with HP fire to take out
scizors ferrothorns and forretresses because HP fire is not only
4x effective but with magnet pull the HP fire is unavoidable
for any steel type. I went with t bolt over thunder for accuracy reasons,
flash cannon is a good STAB move that helps deal with tyranitar and
volt switch is great for revenge killing.

Breloom (F) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Seed Bomb

I use substipunch breloom to counter annoying thing like tyranitar,
umbreon and blissey, but also because its just really annoying to people and isn't bad to help with ice coverage.

Empoleon (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Agility
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot

Empoleon makes a great special sweeper because i can switch into him on a fire or ground type which forces my opponent to switch giving me a free agility and with his move set he can take down a lot of the teams threats.

images

Infernape (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Blaze Kick
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

Choice scarf infernape is there to help the teams weakness to ice and bait people's empoleon switch so i can switch to mangezone to easily kill it with t bolt, also U turn makes for a great move to use on Psychic and Dark types as well as a great revenge kill move.

Salamence (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Brick Break
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Lastly We have Scarfed salamence which is my favorite mixed sweeper in the game. With moxie it isn't hard to late game sweep an entire team with outrages to the face. With max speed he can easily outspeed both haxorus and dragonite and if facing an ice type I can switch to salamence and immediately switch to scout if they are indeed using ice shard.

So that's my current OU Team, I have put a lot of effort into designing and testing this team. I have noticed it has a slight weakness to fighting as well as psychic and was asking for a little input on helping reduce these weaknesses. Any tips Help THX! :)

Hmmm, well this is an interesting team ain't it.

So I have 3 suggestions for ya:

1. New set for magnezone

You have three choice scarf users, I personally think this is excessive, and will force you to switch a lot/let others set up a lot easier. And your magnezone doesn't really neeed the scarf. His job on your team seems to be to kill steel pokemon lik Scizor, and ferro. So change his set to this one

Substitute + 3 Attacks
Leftovers / Air Balloon, Magnet Pull, Timid
Moveset
~ Substitute
~ Thunderbolt
~ Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Ice
~ Charge Beam / Flash Cannon
36 HP / 252 SpA / 220 Spe

With this set you can spam charge beam behind a sub, and get a sweep going, and still kill off all dem steelees.

2. Starmie>Empoleon

This is a hard change for me to suggest but it really is necessary. Infernape, and salamence, both really really hate Rocks, and no pokemon likes rocks so you my friend need a spinner! Starmie maintains the water type, and still provides an offensive presence, and crucially provides a spinner. And he's also hella fast! With him added on, your 2 scarfers won't die so easy! Here's the set that I just copy pasted from smogon
strat dex. (same with the above set)

Standard
Life Orb / Leftovers,Natural Cure, Timid
Moveset EVs
~ Hydro Pump / Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunderbolt
~ Rapid Spin
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

3. Try techniloom, he's a beautiful pokemon, that he is. Yep that's all the suggestion, techniloom is amazing and needs to be tried out. (it's breloom with the technician ability!)

hope I gave you some ideas to munch on!

***edit: I JUST REALIZED YOUR NOT RUNNING TOXIC ORB+POISON HEAL ON GLISCOR. FIX THAT.

I appreciate the feedback, I will definatly give starmie a try nut the reason I didn't use poison heal is because gliscor would no longer be able to use roost or stealth rock......that is until black and white 2 come out then I will for sure use poison heal.

I could be completely wrong about this, but I think you could technically trade Gliscor to BW2 and back(haven't tried) and if thats true then Stealth Rock, Roost and Poison heal are allowed in BW1 as well. If I'm wrong, please tell me because I would like to know that too.

Big threats

Mamoswine - It has a great typing advantage against your entire team.
It can Earthquake Infernape, Empoleon and Mamoswine for a KO, and
can Ice Shard Breloom. It can also KO Gliscor and Salamence. Ways to
stop it are Magnezone's Flash Cannon (But Mamoswine outspeeds), Ape's
Close Combat, Breloom's Focus Punch (Ice Shard's priority :[) and Salamence's
Fire Blast (It's a 2HKO on Thick Fat Mamoswine)

Any fast Ice and Ground type - Your team really is weak to ground and ice.

How to remedy this

Adding a Skarmory on your team would benefit, because it takes Ground and
Ice type moves, it draws in Fighting types so your Empoleon can have a
better time sweeping, and so Magnezone isn't bothered by them. It can
replace Gliscor as they do the same thing. Setting up hazards and walling
physical threats.

Replacing Brick Break for Dragon Claw on Salamence would benefit, because
it supports a late-game Salamence sweep (preventing confusion). Brick
Break offers no coverage alongside Outrage, Fire Blast and Earthquake.

Too many scarfers are unnecessary :(. Magnezone can use this set :

Magnezone@ Leftovers
Magnet pull
Timid
252 Speed, 252 Special Attack
- Charge Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute
- Hidden Power [Fire]

With this set, you can set up ALL over defensive steel types, like Ferrothorn,
Skarmory and non Volt Switch Forretress. It can benefit Empoleon if
Ferrothorn and Specially Bulky Skarmory is gone.

(Give Infernape Flare Blitz -.-)

Hi! Solid team. I find that Stealth Rock is a nuisance for your team, as Salamence hates losing 25% of its health every time it switches into Stealth Rock. It limits its number of switch-ins and makes it a less reliable sweeper. Infernape also doesn't like to repeatedly switch into a field full of Spikes and Stealth Rock.

To fix this problem, I would try using a Defensive Rapid Spin Starmie, with an EV spread of 252 HP / 32 SpD / 224 Spe, with a Timid Nature, along with a moveset of Rapid Spin / Scald / Psyshock / Recover. With this set, Starmie can spin away entry hazards quickly and with decent bulk. With the EV spread, Starmie is never OHKO'd by a Choice Band Terrakion's Stone Edge at full health! Scald is helpful to burn opponents like Scizor, while Psyshock helps dealing with Virizion. The Speed EVs lets it outspeed Tornadus, as well as those Pokemon at a base speed of 110. Just some thoughts. Good luck!
