XY OU <First RMT> Balanced OU - Keep Calm (Mind) and Carry On!

<!This is my first RMT on Smogon! Feedback is greatly appreciated!>

Team-Building Process:
Step 1: I looked through my box and realized I had a Calm Jirachi, decided to build a team around it
Step 2: Garchomp - My team needed a mega
Step 3: Azumarill - Supports Garchomp and serves as a priority attacker
Step 4: Hawlucha - I needed a lead that could serve as a sweeper
Step 5: Ampharos - I realized my lack of special attackers and thought it would help balance the team
Step 6: Dusknoir - Needed another Pokemon, so I chose one from my boxes, i.e. Dusknoir

Team Overview:
This OU team is focused on the maximum output of damage along with preventing the opponents from taking out major threats. Hawlucha serves as the main sweeper, supported by specially defensive wall Jirachi, while physically offensive Garchomp, bulky Azumarill, specially offensive Ampharos, and all-around Dusknoir round out the remainder of the team.

Pokemon:

Jirachi @ Leftovers

Nature: Calm

Ability: Serene Grace

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD

-Calm Mind (Status)

-Wish (Status)

-Psychic (Psychic STAB)

-Flash Cannon (Steel STAB)

Jirachi’s role on this team is to be both a special wall and a special cleaner. Although it isn’t meant to sweep in the early game, a late switch into Jirachi may spell defeat for the opponent. Jirachi is the main defensive pivot of the team, and even without a boosted Special Defense it can easily take neutral hits and be left with no dents. Jirachi’s plan is to set up two or three Calm Minds, then destroy the opposing team with Psychic and Flash Cannon, while relying on Leftovers and Wish for passive recovery. By utilizing Calm Mind, Jirachi proves to be more of a threat than a standard wall alone. JIRACHI HAS BEEN THE STAR OF THE TEAM

Hawlucha @ Power Herb

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Unburden

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252Spd

-Sky Attack (Flying STAB)

-Hi Jump Kick (Fighting STAB)

-Acrobatics (Flying STAB)

-Swords Dance (Status)

Hawlucha frequently serves as this team’s lead against teams that lack major defenses. Since a Hawlucha lead usually forces a switch, it sets up a Swords Dance on turn one, then Sky Attacks turn two. When it uses Sky Attack the Power Herb is used up, activating Unburden, and leaving Hawlucha at a monstrous +2 attack and +2 speed. From there, it can sweep entire teams using Acrobatics, and if truly necessary Hi Jump Kick may be used.

Garchomp @ Garchompite

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Rough Skin

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

-Dragon Claw (Dragon STAB)

-Earthquake (Ground STAB)

-Rock Slide (Rock)

-Fire Fang (Fire)

Garchomp is this team’s mega. Garchomp can be switched in to protect Jirachi from Fire-type moves, and can mega-evolve to deal massive amounts of damage itself. It is supported by Azumarill, who can switch in to take a super-effective Ice-type move for it, and can respond with a powerful Aqua Jet. Despite its mega having lower base speed, it also gains bulk, which allows it to withstand attacks and fight back with its powerful arsenal.

Azumarill @ Assault Vest

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Huge Power

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD

-Aqua Jet (Water STAB)

-Waterfall (Water STAB)

-Play Rough (Fairy STAB)

-Superpower (Fighting)

Azumarill is used mostly for supporting offensive role in this team. Its Assault Vest makes it bulkier and its high attack stat allows it to decimate opponents with a priority STAB Aqua Jet. Azumarill is needed to protect Garchomp from Ice- and Dragon-type attacks, and from the switch-in can destroy weakened teams. Its Huge Power ability allows for an extreme output of damage, which is essential to Azumarill’s usefulness.

Ampharos @ Life Orb

Nature: Modest

Ability: Static

EVs: 132 HP / 252 SpA / 124 Spd

-Focus Blast (Fighting)

-Dragon Pulse (Dragon)

-Thunderbolt (Electric STAB)

-Volt Switch (Electric STAB)

Ampharos is an offensive monster, but its shallow move pool prevented it from seeing any use during Black and White. Now, however, Dragon Pulse has joined Ampharos’s arsenal of powerful attacks. With its great special attack stat, Ampharos reaches 193 special attack at level 50. Its role in this team, however, is to take hits like a boss, then reciprocate with twice as much power. Life Orb is the perfect item for such a monster, as Ampharos is enabled to rip apart opposing teams with ease. Since it needs no setup, it can easily switch out to another teammate, or Volt Switch away to safety.

Dusknoir @ Sitrus Berry

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Pressure

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def

-Will-O-Wisp (Status)

-Shadow Sneak (Ghost STAB)

-Earthquake (Ground)

-Power-Up Punch (Fighting)

Dusknoir is extremely bulky with base 135 in both defenses, and despite its low HP stat, it has 100 base attack. This makes Dusknoir a great Pokemon that serves both an offensive and defensive role. It’s ability to set up Power-Up Punch while still being able to effectively use Will-O-Wisp and be bulky makes Dusknoir a great member of a balanced team. In this team, Dusknoir has no defined role, and will basically do whatever job it is needed for.
<NOTE: Dusknoir is not the definite choice for this slot. Suggestions welcome!>

So, that's the team! I've done relatively well, despite having imperfect results!
Thanks for reading!

Alright interesting team, certainly a very non standard team and I admire that. Here are some changes I think you should make.

Jirachi: As a wish passer Jirachi is outclassed by many wish passers such as vaporeon, chansey and even Alomomola. Also why calm mind if you are going to wish pass? I understand that it boost your special attack when you go on the offensive but Jirachi is only medicore at that. Also late game sweeper? It's not that fast, it has average speed.

Hawlucha: Hawlucha is not the best in the OU metagame at the moment with things like Talonflame and Pinsir running amok but it certainly holds a niche as probably the best unburden user atm. Just a question: Why are you using it as a lead? You just waste your unburden boost by leading with it and activating unburden. This should be the thing you are using as a late game sweeper, not Jirachi. Also most leads are sashed with stealth rock and other hazards: when leading with Hawlucha you won't force switches so that statement is untrue.

Mega Garchomp: I'm not a big fan of Mega Chomp and the first mistake many people make when using it is using a normal Garchomp set. Normal Garchomp is significantly faster but Mega is more bulky and has higher attack and special stats. While normal Chomp is often a late game sweeper or revenge killer, Mega Chomp is more of a wallbreaker with it's Kyurem-B attacking stats. Therefore fullfilling his wallbreaking role a mixed set is often best such as Outrage, Earthquake, Fire Blast and Draco meteor. IMO normal chomp is better especially scarfchomp.

Azumaril: This set is really good and is the set I use as well. No changes here.

Ampharos: Ampharos is not really viable in OU at all unless in Mega form and even then it's not that great. Let me know what type of pokemon you want to replace it and I will reply with my thoughts.

Dusknoir: Because of Eviolite Dusclops is superior to Dusknoir if you want a defensive annoying pokemon (Eviolite boosts defences for non fully evolved pokemon). Dusclops is less offensive than Dusknoir but it can run a set like Will-O-Wisp, Night Shade, Protect and Pain Split which is good for a wall. It can be specially, physically or even mixed defensive. If you don't want Dusclops just say what type of pokemon you want in this slot.

Wish on Jirachi is for its own recovery. I don't intend on wishpassing. I had a Calm-natured one in-game and decided to try it out.
Hawlucha isn't always my lead. I tend to lead with it against frail teams that can't outspeed it. I may actually try Dragon-Dance Crawdaunt in this slot as a wallbreaker.
I see your point with Garchomp. I don't, however, see the point in using Outrage, as an opponent's switch into a Fairy type can cause Garchomp to lose momentum. I had a Mega-Mawile in this slot... but it was banned to Ubers
In Ampharos's slot I would use pretty much any special attacker.
I will try Dusclops out over Dusknoir. That seems like a good idea. I might try Jellicent in this slot.
Thanks so much for the feedback!
Please note, though, that I am playing with this team not on a simulator, but in-game.

Sorry I assumed when I saw wish you were wish passing.

Frail teams (Hyper Offence and Offence) normally lead with a hazard setter which is normally sashed. If you don't attack them immediately some of them (such as mamoswine) can easily stop your sweep but I get when you are coming from.

Garchomp should never use outrage when there is a fairy on the other team so that point is invalid. If you need to kill a dragon when there is a fairy on the opposing team use draco meteor. What other megas do you have in your game? I could suggest some if you would like.

In the Ampharos slot possibly a Thundurus(assuming you can get it)? However if you change your mega maybe you could have a mega in this slot and have a normal ScarfChomp.

Thank you for listening to me about Dusclops- It's one of my favourite pokemon and is very underated imo. :)

I have access to all megas but Aggron (never got the stone). I think I may remove Garchomp entirely and replace it with something else. I may try to use Medicham instead. I would use Thundurus, but the only one I have has horrible IVs and a bad nature (calm), so it would be very underwhelming. I do have a Tornadus-T set, but didn't think it would be appropriate for OU. I would also like to find a spot for a spinner somewhere on here... not sure where.

Jirachi is not very viable in OU anymore due to its Ghost and Dark weaknesses, it is outclassed as a special wall by Heatran. This set isn't the greatest because you have no way to ensure that you can get off the Wish without Protect. Also, with no defense or HP EVs, physical attackers can come in and easily take you out. If you do manage to get Calm Minds, Psychic and Steel still leaves you with bad coverage.

Hawlucha is cool and can definitely be effective, but as Thunderorange said, he is much better as a late game sweeper, because the speed from Unburden is a one-time effect.

Garchomp, when mega, is much better as a wallbreaker, especially in sand. If you want to keep Chomp, I recommend the scarf set for a revenge killer or the Stealth Rock set because no one on your team has them.

Azumarill set is standard and always good.

Ampharos, like Thunderorange said, is not very viable, especially when it isn't mega. Thundurus is the best replacement for an electric type, and Lati@s would be awesome because you have no Defog.

Dusknoir is outclassed by Dusklops in terms of walling, but both have that nasty Knock Off weakness. Still, Dusklops can be effective in OU, but be sure to give it a fully defensive EV spread and moveset.
