First RMT! Offensively-oriented team [OU]

The Team

FRAGILE OFFENSE: AN OU TEAM

Introduction:

Hey, guys. This is actually my first RMT! This is my main team for WiFi use and I've battled a couple times with it on Shoddy. I think it's an alright team, but it could probably get better. It's mainly centered around Scizor getting a late-game sweep. It's a very fragile team bar Porygon2, so I have to play around resistances and immunities. It's a nice break from stall. Enjoy!

This is the line-up! I have Starmie for an anti-lead and rapid spinner and late-game sweeper. Porygon2 for countering some of the top threats and for poison/paralysis support. Salamence is for breaking stall and walls. Infernape is for scouting. Dugtrio is for revenge killing and Scizor is for late-game sweeping.

In detail:

i_starmie.gif

Starmie @ Life Orb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed
Nature: Timid
Ability: Natural Cure
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Rapid Spin

Description: Starmie serves as an anti-lead, rapid spinner and late-game sweeper. He beats all of the common leads except for Tyranitar with the combination of Hydro Pump, Grass Knot and Rapid Spin. Ice Beam just rounds the set off with perfect coverage. I also need Life Orb to score some OHKOs, so please, don't tell me to get rid of it for Leftovers or something. I know that this lead means that I can't get Stealth Rock down, but I think it's worth it in exchange for not letting the opponent getting them down, either.

Synergy:

- Dugtrio

- Salamence, Infernape, Scizor

i_porygon2.gif

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Defense / 144 Special Attack
Nature: Bold
Ability: Trace
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover

Description: I. Love. Porygon2. It's a really good anti-metagame Pokemon, countering some of the top threats (Salamence, Gyarados, Heatran) with ease. He can also switch into Vaporeon, Jolteon and Electivire, thanks to his awesome ability, Trace. I went with Discharge and Toxic over Thunderbolt and Thunder Wave because it allows me to beat other walls. I was told to swap this out for Rotom-H, which I might test out. The EVs allow me to always OHKO standard Gyarados without Stealth Rock.

Synergy:

2eojm8i.png
- Starmie, Salamence

i_salamence.gif

Salamence @ Life Orb
EVs: 16 Attack / 240 Special Attack / 252 Speed
Nature: Naive
Ability: Intimidate
- Draco Meteor
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

Description: Bet you've never seen this guy before! Haha.. yeah. I run Naive with max Speed EVs so that a worst case scenario would be me losing a speed-tie vs. another Salamence. He's also my main weapon against stall, and he does a great job at it. I don't have to worry about Stealth Rock 95% of the time, thanks to my awesome anti-lead. I went with Fire Blast over Flamethrower because without Stealth Rock support, I need as much power as possible.

Synergy:

- Starmie, Infernape, Scizor

- Dugtrio

- Scizor

i_infernape.gif

Infernape @ Life Orb
EVs: 248 Attack / 64 Special Attack / 196 Speed
Nature: Naive
Ability: Blaze
- Close Combat
- U-Turn
- Stone Edge
- Overheat

Description: A physically-based MixApe. He's also my scouter. I ran 4 extra speed EV's to out-run other 192 speed positive-natured Infernapes. The main reason I chose this set is because I didn't have anyone with U-Turn. This set's Overheat does just as much as the specially-based set's Fire Blast, and the Close Combat is obviously a lot more powerful, which is nice. I might sub out Stone Edge for Mach Punch, because I have a Lucario weakness.

Synergy:

- Salamence

- None

- Starmie, Scizor

i_dugtrio.gif

Dugtrio @ Choice Band
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Attack / 216 Speed
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Arena Trap
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace
- Night Slash

Description: Dugtrio's pretty cool. He provides a nice immunity to electric, and works really well with Infernape's U-Turn. There really isn't too much freedom with his movepool, so I just went with what works. Night Slash over Pursuit and Sucker Punch because I don't want to be locked into either one. 40 HP EVs gives me a high chance of surviving a Life Orb Lucario's ExtremeSpeed, which could really help. I've been considering switching Choice Band to Life Orb and making Scizor Banded.

Synergy:

v771ph.png
- Starmie, Salamence
f9jocg.png
- Salamence, Infernape, Scizor

- Starmie, Infernape, Scizor

i_scizor.gif

Scizor @ Life Orb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Attack / 8 Special Defense
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Quick Attack
- Brick Break

Description: Scizor tends to come in late game, set up a Swords Dance and finish it off. She's also my only priority-user and Steel type. Quick Attack is so that I can hit Pokemon that I normally couldn't with Bullet Punch. I put the EVs into Special Defense rather than Speed so that I can beat other Scizorz who try to Superpower me. There's not much to be said about this one.. x.x

Synergy:

- Starmie, Salamence, Infernape

Team Building Process

121_1.png

I wanted to build a team around the anti-lead Starmie set, so I started with him. I added Porygon2 simply because he's able to counter some of the top OU threats.

121_1.png
233_1.png

I needed a wall-breaker and a weapon against stall. I chose Salamence because, IMO, he's the best one for the job.

121_1.png
233_1.png
373_1.png

Looking at my team now, I noticed my lack of a U-Turner. I love the move U-Turn. I thought I'd take a stray away from the common Scizor and try a physically-based U-Turning Infernape.

I looked at my team and noticed my lack of a revenge killer. I added Dugtrio because I love his trapping abilities, and he had good synergy with my team.

I now desired a set-up sweeper. I chose Scizor because I lacked a steel type and a good priority user.

Threat List

Black means that it's not a thread, orange means it's a moderate thread, and red means it's a huge threat.

dpiconani142.gif
Aerodactyl: Not a threat at all. Loses to my Starmie lead, and no one uses this for other than leads.
dpiconani065.gif
Alakazam: People still use him?
dpiconani482.gif
Azelf: Gets beaten by my Starmie lead. Scarf / LO versions get beaten by Salamence / Scizor.
dpiconani242.gif
Blissey: Salamence / Infernape / Dugtrio / Scizor.
dpiconani286.gif
Breloom: Starmie can take Spore and then gets beaten by Salamence / Infernape / Dugtrio.
dpiconani437.gif
Bronzong: Gets beaten by my Starmie lead, any other version dies to Salamence / Infernape.
dpiconani251.gif
Celebi: Salamence or Infernape.
dpiconani488.gif
Cresselia: I haven't faced one, but Infernape can U-Turn, Dugtrio can Night Slash and Scizor can set-up on it.
dpiconani232.gif
Donphan: Lol.
dpiconani149.gif
Dragonite: Porygon2, Salamence, Scizor.
dpiconani051.gif
Dugtrio: Starmie beats Adamant ones, Porygon2 Traces Arena Trap, Salamence and Scizor.
dpiconani477.gif
Dusknoir: If I'd ever see one, I'm sure it won't pose any threat.
dpiconani466.gif
Electivire: Porygon2 Traces Motor Drive, Salamence can switch into anything other than Ice Punch, Infernape, Dugtrio can revenge kill.
dpiconani395.gif
Empoleon: Porygon2 can Discharge,Salamence can Earthquake, but can't switch into an Ice Beam. Infernape can Close Combat but can't switch in, Dugtrio can revenge kill.
dpiconani330.gif
Flygon: I'm pretty sure that Porygon2 can switch into Outrage and take two hits then OHKO with Ice Beam. Salamence beats non-scarf, Scizor.
dpiconani205.gif
Forretress: Starmie beats Forretress leads, Salamence can switch in and OHKO, Infernape can switch in and OHKO, Dugtrio can revenge kill and Scizor can Brick Break.
dpiconani094.gif
Gengar: Scizor, Infernape MIGHT be able to survive a non-LO Shadow Ball and Overheat. Could definetely pose as a problem.
dpiconani472.gif
Gliscor: Starmie and Porygon2.
dpiconani130.gif
Gyarados: I have the best Gyarados counter in the game on my team. Lack of SR hurts here, though.
dpiconani485.gif
Heatran: Starmie can switch into one locked into Fire Blast. Porygon2 can switch in, but cannot do much. Infernape and Dugtrio.

I see 4 life orb users, not good if they do get rocks or spikes down, and weather just rapes you. On mence give him flamethrower over fire blast, doesnt need the extra power for anything.

Starmie does not want life orb, you dont want to be losing 10% HP when using rapid spin.

Give porygon 2 discharge over thunderbolt for 30% paralyze, and then toxic > thunderwave, allows him to beat other walls like pert and vappy.

Brick break is probably the better option, you dont want to -Def when you are using SD, as it will hinder your sweep.

I'm pretty sure the LO on Starmie is necessary for some OHKO's.

I'll consider that Porygon2 set, thanks. But I'll need more opinions on the Superpower vs. Brick Break matter.

Thunderbolt seems like a better option than Grass Knot, unless you really hate Swampert. Surf/Hydro Pump already hits Ground and Rock types (like Ttar and Hippowdon) harder anyways, and Thunderbolt gives you a good answer to Gyarados. Also you may want to consider Recover among one of his moveslots.

I'm also worried that you're a bit Lucario weak. A +2 ExtremeSpeed annihilates Starmie, Infernape, and Dugtrio, and goes a good amount to Salamence even after Intimidate (60-70%). Even more dangerous than that though, is that Jolly Lucario outspeeds your Mence due to you not running a +Speed nature, so he can hit you first with a guaranteed OHKO off of Ice Punch or Stone Edge. Pory2 is no match for Close Combat, nor is Scizor, who can only hope to get off of a resisted Bullet Punch before he bites it.

To remedy this, I might suggest subbing out Pory2 for a Scarfed Rotom-H. It will always outspeed Lucario, Scizor, and +1 Gyarados, and it can OHKO all of these threats with Overheat, Overheat, and Thunderbolt/Discharge, respectively. It also makes a decent check to Infernape and Heatran, as it outspeeds non-scarfed Infernapes and Scarfed Heatrans and can hit them with a fairly powerful Thunderbolt (or HP Ground if you choose that as your third attack, which allows you the freedom to use Discharge as your electric attack if you so desire). His third move can come from a number of Hidden powers for coverage on specific threats or Shadow Ball for Neutrality. Trick rounds out his set with the ability to cripple common switch-ins like Blissey and Snorlax.

Do you think that I could remedy the problem without subbing out Porygon2? (ie. running a faster Salamence)
