Pet Mod Fossil Mashup - Exclusive Moves! (Submission Phase)

Fossil Mashup

I need a banner ç _ç.
Welcome to a new Pet Mod that explores a mechanic born through a meme on the web. With the introduction of the fossil fusion that was made by Pokémon Sword and Shield, some artists began to create art about past generation fossils going through the same process.

Since we can actually give sense to those ideas and test them in a simulator, we can organize to make the parts together, specifying the moves that each of them gives to the fusion. The mechanic that determines stats, typing abilities and movepool aims to respect the same pattern of the specifics of Arctovist, Arctozolt, Dracovish and Dracozolt. If you look at their movesets and typing, you can notice easily that they are a composition of 6 moves by one of the parts and 6 moves by the other, plus Ancient Power.

Name: Arctovish
Type:

Abilities: Water Absorb / Ice Body | Slush Rush
Stats: 90 / 90 / 100 / 80 / 90 / 55 | BST 505

Name: Arctozolt

Abilities: Volt Absorb / Static | Slush Rush
Stats: 90 / 100 / 90 / 90 / 80 / 55 | BST 505

Name: Dracovish
Type:

So I kinda invented a mechanic that can determine those fusions among other fossil we alredy knew before 8gen.
The rules are:
  • the new specie's name must be a composition of the names of the fusee;
  • the new specie inherits both the secondary types of the fusees (Rock type if using Rampardos);
  • the new specie inherits one ability from one of the fusees and two from the other one (regular abilities must be inherited as regular abilities, hidden as hidden);
  • the new specie must have a BST equal to 505 and the single stats must not exceed 110 or be lower than 55;
  • the new specie inherits 6 moves taken from one fusee's list of accessible moves in gen7 and 6 from the other one and Ancient Power and some other moves (which it gets by default, doesn't need to inherit those moves from parents, because they all learn them), 10 and 10 for TM/HM (excluding the TMs that every Pokemon can learn; no fossil is allowed in SW/SH, so we'll consider Gen7 for movepools, TM/HM and tutor moves list).
The obtained forms will have unknown gender, so they won't be able to have Egg Moves.
Primary Ability is the same as head's primary Ability, no matter what.
Hidden Ability is either tail's hidden Ability or, if that is the same as head's primary, tail's primary ability (this is to go around Armaldo, Omastar, Carracosta and Kabutops fusions, that would have two ability slots with the same ability).
If either primary or hidden ability is Defeatist, the fusion doesn't have a secondary ability, otherwise:
  1. if tail has a secondary ability that is different from primary and hidden ability, the fusion's secondary ability is the same as tail's secondary ability;
  2. if tail's primary ability is different from primary and hidden ability, the fusion's secondary ability is the same as tail's primary ability;
  3. if head has a secondary ability that is different from primary and hidden ability, the fusion's secondary ability is the same as head's secondary ability
(this strange mechanic is to determine secondary ability more or less randomly, so that it is as different as possible among the fusions)
Each fossil Pokemon has a type, up to 3 abilities and some stat bonuses (obtained by ordering the stats from lowest to highest and then multiplying 5 for the position).
For example Kabutops's stat spread is: 60 / 115 / 105 / 65 / 70 / 80, so 1 / 6 / 5 / 2 / 3 / 4, which x5 is 5 / 30 / 25 / 10 / 15 / 20.
Note: I will refer to upper body part as "head" and to the lower body part as "tail".

To make a fusion,
  1. decide which Pokémon will give the upper body and which the lower;
  2. determine the name, tail gives the first part, head gives the last;
  3. determine the typing, which will simply be a combination of the single types given by each of the fusees (head first, tail second);
  4. determine the ability, head will give its primary and secondary ability, tail will give its hidden ability (Defeatist is used as Archeops's Hidden Ability as well);
  5. determine the moveset by giving the fusion the 6 head moves of the head, 6 tail moves of the tail and both all the 10 TM/HM moves of the head and all the 10 TM/HM moves of the tail - the new specie will also get Ancient Power, Earth Power, Rock Polish, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Sandstorm, Stealth Rocks, Stone Edge and basic TM moves (like Protect, Toxic, etc.), so you don't need to include them as inherited;
  6. to determine each stat, follow this formula: 50 + HeadStatBonus + TailStatBonus - if BST is 510 (so none of the fusee is Omastar, Cradily or Archeops), highest stat will lose 5 points (if more stats are equally lower than the others, points are subtracted from the first following the order HP->ATK->DEF->SPA->SPD->SPE).
  7. If head's Attack stat is higher than tail's, given the stat spread obtained by the two fossils, Attack is swapped with Defense and Special Attack is swapped with Special Defense.

The only thing is that there is no way to determine their moveset objectively, so we'll have to invent those ourselves!
So I've made some considerations:
As soon as possible I will make sprites that represent each part, but you can figure out looking at these:

Since each part gives 6 different level-up moves to each of the fusions it can make, we'll chose those 6 moves for each part among the list of the moves that the corresponding Pokémon can learn by level-up, breeding, previous evolutions and move tutor.
Head moves are the moves that the original fossil Pokémon executes with the upper part of its body, namely its head or arms, while tail moves are the ones performed using slam and legs. There are many moves which don't belog to any of those two categories, and those moves will be eligible to be assigned either as head or tail moves. For example, "Punch" moves, "Claw" moves or Zen Headbutt cannot be inherited as tail moves since the new specie needs the claws, the arms or the head of the original fossil Pokémon to perform that move, while Body Slam and "Tail" moves are not suited to be head moves, since the power needed for the slam isn't taken neither from head nor from arms (except if head is quadrupedal), and you can't use Iron Tail or Dragon Tail with your hands; there are some more considerations to be made, like that Aurorus needs the luminescent crests on its head and neck to perform Aurora Beam, but it can use the gems on its body or the ones on its head to charge energy for a Thunderbolt. But moves like Dragon Dance, Thunder or Recover don't imply which part of the body is needed to execute the move, and we can assume the new specie will figure out on its own how to use TM/HM moves based on the memories of its fusees, but since TM weren't all the same as they are in 8gen and TR didn't exist in gen7, we'll decide which moves can be learnt by each of the parts, among these lists.

TM List: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/TM
TR List: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/TR

What seems compulsory for a part generally is that:
  1. If the Pokémon has 4 arm, 2 become part of the head part and the other two plus, eventually, the tail, will be included in the tail part.
  2. Cradily's head part is made only on its neck and head, whereas the tail part is made by the four appendages it has on its body, so no tail part should pass moves that imply the use of arms.
  3. the tail part of Omastar and Carracosta is constituted by their shell and tentacles or feet, so only the tail part will be able to pass Shell Smash.
  4. same goes for Rampardos and Tyrantrum, whose moves like Dragon Tail and Dragon Dance will be passable only by the tail part, while Dragon Claw, Head Smash and Dragon Pulse only by the head part (EDIT: nearly all the Dragon-type moves I've said are TRs now lol).

Ok, now that the rules are set, we'll start making submissions. As I've said, you are able to submit the list of TM and TR transmitted by each of the original fossils, and 6 level-up moves for each of their head and tail parts, chosen among all the moves that they are able to learn in Ultra Sun / Moon.
List of moves that all parts learn by default (you don't need to consider them in your count as they fit as TM or TR or are already in all the parts movepools):
Ancient Power
Earth Power
Rock Polish
Rock Slide
Rock Tomb
Sandstorm
Stealth Rock
Stone Edge
Attract
Facade
Protect
Rest
Round
Snore

Exclusive Fossil Moves!

So, from now on each Slate will feature 3/4 fossils, usually with similar roles or niches, to help with diversity. The goal is to give each of them an exclusive move that they will give to the mashups that use them as Head part.
Slates will be structured this way:

1. Submission Phase: (~1 week)
Users will be able to submit exclusive moves for any of the fossils featured in the Slate in the following format.[/SIZE]
Code:
[IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/ani/mew.gif[/IMG]
[B]Move Name[/B]:
[B]Giver[/B]:
[B]Move Replaced[/B]:
[B]Type[/B]: [IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Bird.png[/IMG]
[B]Category[/B]: [IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/categories/[Physical, Special or Status].png[/IMG]
[B]BP[/B]:
[B]Accuracy[/B]:
[B]Max PP[/B]:
[B]Effects[/B]:
[B]Attributes[/B]: [Sound/Contact/Punching/Biting/etc.]
[B]Reasoning[/B]: (optional)
Please, keep in mind that:
- Giver must be the name of the Pokémon that gives the move to the mashups made with it as Head part.
- Replaced Move will be a move form the list of the Head moves the giver passes (sorry, but we would not fit Arcto/Draco-vish/zolt rules of 13 level-up moves otherwise)
- Type of the move must be the same as the type the fossil gives as a part, that is the same as the primary type of the original Pokémon.
- Reasoning should explain how mashups made with the Giver as a part would benefit from the move.
- You should make the move fitting also flavour-wise, so remember how the head part is done.
- There's no particular restriction on the moves power or effect, just keep it balanced - consider not only the stat boosts the part gives, but try also to see the strongest mashups you can make using it as a head and how it can make any of them unbalanced for the meta.
I added also some useful sprite references, you can use any sprite you want though (even none, just be clear).
Information on the parts can be found in the link to the generator below, using the same Pokémon as head and tail it shows you the fossil's typing, abilities, stat bonuses and the moves it passes to the mashup.
2. Voting Phase: (~5 days)
Users will be able to express their preferences on the moves submitted.
The format is:
- 3 votes to first preference;
- 2 votes to second;
- 1 vote to third.
You can self vote, but not as a first preference.

3. Discussion Phase: (~3 days, may overlap with Phase 1)
Users will be able to discuss the new moves and post sets of mashup that use it.

First Slate:

The Rampants

So, in this first slate we'll be choosing moves for the 4 parts of Rampardos and Tyrantrum.
You can choose 6 moves among all the moves that these Pokémon can learn in gen7 for the head and 6 moves for the tail, and those will become the level-up moves they will pass to the fusions made with them.

Pokémon: (Rampardos or Tyrantrum)
Head Moves: (6, chosen among the whole movepool of each of the two)
Tail Moves: (6, same as head Moves, but they have to be different from them)
TM and TR moves: (10, list only the move names, choose among the list of TMs and TRs available in Sword and Shield)
You can Submit for one or both of the Pokémon, but you cannot submit head separately from tail.

Slate will be open for at least 1 week.

Hello, welcome to Fossil Mashup!
I'm happy to see you contribute, but this is not the right time for discussing fusions. Currently we are submitting single Pokémon parts to decide the movepool they give access to. So, your submission should only include Tyrantrum (or Rampardos) and the moves it passes as a head or as a tail (see my post for reference).

criticism with how the stat spread works
fossils like rampardos and bdon were designed to have crazy stat distrubutions and their mashups should reflect that imo
the way stat dist. works rampardos and kabutops contribute the same amount of atk despite the former having way more
idk how to fix this without making it more complex (like stat/10 rounded)

The question is, you have to distribute always the same amount of total points. The aim of the function you use is this, and that you should have in mind the stat spreads of Dracozolt and friends (which are determined in a pretty strangely-justified-but-simple mechanic) where:
- all the forms have the same HP
- all the forms have 90 and 100 in either Attack or Defense
- the forms change their Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed in base of the tail
- the head determines wether if Attack and Special Attack are higher than Defense and Special Defense respectively or viceversa

One way would be to divide fossils in heads-only and tail-only, one of dividing them in offensive and defensive ones, to determine what they do as heads and what they do as tails (even if a Bastiodon-like defensive stat combo used by a Tyrantrum head, so inverting offensive and defensive stats, steel/dragon type with SD, DD, ...do i even have to continue?), but, as you said, most of those methods would imply more complexity and could sort out in balancing problems, banned combos and stuff. Limitations are among things that at least aren't in the spirit of this Pet Mod (even if they may be necessary, so let's not add more).

Also, you can calculate the same method used in the first post with a multiplier for stat bonus of x10 instead of x5 as it is now.
Given that M is the multiplier and S is the amount you have to sum to each stat (with the method I use, M = 5 and S = 50):
S = (510 - 42 * M) / 6
In the case both fusees have the same value in more than 1 stat (so if BST is 490), the resulting lowest stat is raised by +15.

The x10 multiplier largens the difference among the stats, while reaching a maximum stat of 135 and a minimum of 35. Even if I discovered it (I even implemented it on the site I'll be hosting to generate fusions), I didn't use this method because 135 may be too much, considering that we have Shell Smash Water/Dragon-types with Solid Rock (that is a thing we have to analyse when it comes) and other scary stuff. This stll isn't proportional to the original stats of the fossils, but you can see more easily differences among the contributions of Bastiodon and Cradily for example, that are both defensive, but one is more defense-oriented while the other is more for HP.

If you can come up with an idea though, I'm open to listen :)

EDIT: thinking about this, I realized we don't have a real way to differentiate among the two fusions that are given by a couple of fossils (this means that, for example, taking Carracosta and Cradily, there's no real difference between Carradily and Cracosta - the first uses Carracosta as tail and Cradily as head, the other one is the opposite), they will only differ for movepool and ability (sometimes only for the hidden ability), and this could lead to forget some formes because the their other way around is stronger. The aim of this Pet Mod is to create 121 different Pokémon, so one way could be to determine if the head Pokémon is the offensive one among the two components or not (so if head's Attack stat is higher than tail's Attack, not very accurate but whatever), then if it is, the fusion's Attack is swapped with its Defense and Special Attack is swapped with Special Defense.
So the new rule is:

If head's Attack stat is higher than tail's, given the stat spread obtained by the two fossils,
Attack is swapped with Defense and Special Attack is swapped with Special Defense.

Also the way secondary abilities are determined changes, now the order is:
head's secondary ability -> tail's secondary ability -> tail's primary ability
in the case they are all not available or they are the same as one of the other abilities, or if one of the fusee is Archeops, secondary ability is still null.

Sorry for the double post.

First, I updated the fusion generator, just select head and tail fossil, click the "Generate" button and you will see the fusion.

Then, as I've said a week ago, Slate 1 is termined, Emergence's sub and mine win by default.
I'll try with slate 2, but if this is the affluence, this Pet Mod will switch to a FFA.

The Volatiles

So, in this slate we'll be choosing moves for the 4 parts of Archeops and Aerodactyl.
You can choose 6 moves among all the moves that these Pokémon can learn in gen7 for the head and 6 moves for the tail, and those will become the level-up moves they will pass to the fusions made with them.

You can Submit for one or both of the Pokémon, but you cannot submit head separately from tail.

Slate will be open for at least 1 week.

Ok, so, more than a week has passed and no one posted, I think it's better if we switch to FFA.
Emergence's subs win by default, I didn't even submit 'cause my subs would have been the same.

From now on, anyone is allowed to submit any of the missing fossils,
to post sets for complete fusions or to discuss other submissions.

I'll edit this post with my subs for some of the remaining fossils.

You did great, except for one small thing: Earth Power is among the default moves they all get, so you don't need to include it in the moves list 'cause every fusion will always be able to learn that; please remove it from the movepools of Omastar, Armaldo and Aurorus and replace it with some other.
Also, may I suggest to add Spikes and Toxic Spikes among Omastar's moves? They are egg moves in gen7, and they'll give some niche to Omastar-headed fusions (that is not likely to be chosen so often, because of Shell Smash); I'd replace Bite and Water Gun or Brine (that could become a tail move instead of Earth Power) with them.

Your contribution is very much appreciated anyway, I was hoping not to decide all the moves alone, more minds are always better than one.

I completly forgot about Egg Moves when making the move list. Updated, hopefully should be all right now

You did great, I just replaced Facade in Omastar's and Armaldo's moveset with Whirlpool and Aqua Jet, because it is a default move, and Flash Cannon from Aurorus' list of tail moves with Discharge, because you listed it also as a TM/TR move.

So, now all the forms are made with complete movepools, you can see all of them in the website linked in the first post, in my signature and here.
Is there someone willing to host this meta on a PS server? I can figure out with some help how to code it, cause I just learnt some JavaScript.

i dunno when this is getting coded but uhhh

Honestly quickban worthy. 90/105/105 are astounding defenses for this meta where the highest stats (including for offensive mons) are in the 110s. This is bolstered further by the insane Steel/Grass type, which nothing has super-effective STAB against, only Fire/Fighting coverage on certain mons. What really seals this as broken or at least top-tier IMO is it getting both Leech Seed AND Recover as Cradily Tail moves. This could probably be viable in standard OU as a Ferrothorn alternative, let alone this meta.

Question: Once this becomes playable, can we use Dracos, Zolts, Arctos and Vishs in battles, or can we only use these new mashups?
You'll be able to use all these new mashups plus all the other Pokemon in GalarDex.

I think this answers your comment too. I wasn't thinking of creating a new meta, I just wanted to add some cool Pokemon to the OU rooster.

EDIT: my question is, should we add -zolt and -vish as heads and Arcto- and Draco- as tails? If we do, how are we gonna choose stat boosts and abilities?

Honestly, most of these fusions are not OU viable. Aside from Cradon and maybe a few others their stats, typing and move/ability pools are just not up to standard with even normal old Galar Dex OU, let alone post-DLC Galar Dex or National Dex if we decide to ever go those routes.

On the one hand we probably should for inclusivity but on the other hand it's also kinda weird to not have heads/tails for some of them unlike all the other fossils. There's also the problem of Fishious Rend/Bolt Beak which IMO would put them too far above the other fossil fusions. Perhaps we could make similarly useful signature moves for all the halves that roughly correspond to their function/lore/design?

Ok they're 121 already so we can make it a micro-meta. I didn't think about it this way, do you think we have enough roles?
I was already thinking about signature moves, I just didn't propose it because of the lack of following, let's implement that. I don't have time atm, but I'll start slates again next week.

So this might just be a different idea completely, but this mod could be about making up new parts for all the other types and then combining them. Imo that would solve the lack of diversity in the meta.

Hey, that is a really fun idea, I actually thought about that too but that would actually be another meta, not what this was meant to be (also, Petuuuhhh would have something to say about it). Let's go on with exclusive moves for now.

EDIT: at the end, when everything is defined, we could add some Head-only and Tail-only part of the missing types, that can help to cover the missing roles. Missing types are Fire, Psychic, Dark, Fairy, Normal, Fighting, Poison, Ghost and Ground.

So, from now on each Slate will feature 3/4 fossils, usually with similar roles or niches, to help with diversity. The goal is to give each of them an exclusive move that they will give to the mashups that use them as Head part.
Slates will be structured this way:

1. Submission Phase: (~1 week)
Users will be able to submit exclusive moves for any of the fossils featured in the Slate in the following format.
- 3 votes to first preference;
- 2 votes to second;
- 1 vote to third.
You can self vote, but not as a first preference.

3. Discussion Phase: (~3 days, may overlap with Phase 1)
Users will be able to discuss the new moves and post sets of mashup that use it.

First Slate:

- The Guardians -
This slate we'll submit moves for the givers of defensively oriented stat bonuses, that are also good at using defensive and annoying moves.
There is no limit in power, category or accuracy, but I'd say status and utility moves would really help those parts to shine (not Bastiodon, it shines enough already).
Cradily's Head Moves: Amnesia, Bind, Brine, Pain Split, Sludge Wave, Synthesis
Bastiodon's Head Moves: Block, Counter, Endure, Iron Head, Magic Coat, Metal Sound
Aurorus's Head Moves: Avalanche, Barrier, Icy Wind, Light Screen, Haze, Encore

Feel free to submit! :D

EDIT: My subs

Move Name: Northern Lights
Giver: Aurorus
Move Replaced: Avalanche
Type:

Category:

BP: --
Accuracy: --
Max PP: 16
Effects: Sets up Hail and Reflect for 5 turns; both effects last 8 turns if the user is holding Icy Rock or Light Clay; if Hail condition summoned by Hail or Snow Warning or Reflect are already active, turn count will restart; Hail will fail if used.
Attributes: Fails under Air Lock, Primordial Sea, Desolate Land and Delta Stream, both effects are ignored by Cloud Nine and interrupted by Screen Cleaner, Brick Break and Psychic Fangs, Lycanrock's Z-Move and weather moves and abilities; doesn't stack with Reflect; Aurora Veil can be used, but it only adds Light Screen effect if both are active, turns are counted separately though.
Reasoning: Aurorus passes Snow Warning only with its Tail part, so it needs a way to set it up easily while using also a handy effect, considering that it gives only 2 points of stat bonus in Defense. And yes, teorically you can make Hail last forever, so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Move Name: Algae Bite
Giver: Cradily
Move Replaced: Sludge Wave
Type:

Category:

BP: 75
Accuracy: 95%
Max PP: 24
Effects: While user is on the field, target cannot switch out; inflicts 2x damage under Rain or Heavy Rain.
Attributes: Biting move, boosted by Strong Jaw; Ghost-types are immune to the secondary effect, but they take damage anyway; effect is removed by Rapid Spin.
Reasoning: Cradily mashups need a strong attacking moves, as all the defensive mashups will almost certainly use it as a tail part and it already provides all the support moves it needs. The effect will also let it inflict all the passive damage it needs, stalling out the opponents.
