Metagame Frantic Fusions | Survey @ Post #484!

I probably agree that Good as Gold is broken with the right team. I just haven't seen that team yet as not many people are running it on ladder. It'd probably look like Spikestack + Ghost that can tank Tusk's hits + GaG user in some capacity to beat non-scrappy spin teams.

Well then you haven't run into me. Here's my spike stack team that I've had the most success with, featuring dual regen core of tusk and h-gooda, both carrying knock off to get rid of those pesky boots. Chesnaught as my spike stacker, which I opted for over skarm because rain is so prevalent. Pecharunt and Gholdengo are there to make sure hazards dont go away plus fast NP gholdengo is super threatening with hazards up. Finally scarf sneasler is there to revenge kill a lot of the big threats to this team, like primarina, ursa bloodmoon, and cinderace. Its also just a great late game cleaner after everyone is worn down by hazards.

klawf (Great Tusk) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock

Classic regen tusk, he's here to get rocks up and knock off items. Regen also gives it longevity allowing him to switch into threats and force them out, racking up more and more hazard damage. Rapid spin is a nice bonus although this team has pretty good matchup versus hazard stack due to boots spam and levitate.

1709122805099.png

hydrapple (Goodra-Hisui) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 27 Spe
- Dragon Tail
- Draco Meteor
- Knock Off
- Flamethrower / Heavy Slam

What he lacks in strength he makes up in ability to survive everything. Can switch into pretty much any special attacker in the tier, force them out, and heal up any damage taken with regen. Dragon tail is perfect for stopping setup sweepers in their tracks and phasing things around for hazard damage. Knock off to get rid of boots. I've found the most success with flamethrower in the final move slot as gholdengo is so common and getting rid of him frees up scarf sneasler & iron defense chesnaught

1709123306418.png

lycanroc-dusk (Sneasler) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Tough Claws
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Dire Claw
- Switcheroo
- U-turn

Sneasler gives this team the offensive presence it needs to be able to function in this metagame. Like I mentioned previously this thing revenge kills every major threat to the team. It can also sweep late game, stop dangerous setup sweepers with switcheroo, and u-turn around for momentum. Nothing can switch into close combat/dire claw + hazards unless they're fluffy, which brings me to my next pokemon:

1709123584047.png

latias (Gholdengo) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Make It Rain
- Recover

This thing is deceptively fast, bulky, and strong, while performing the critical role of blocking defog. It wreaks havoc on the bulkier/balance teams once hazards up, outspeeding and killing tusk, primarina, alo, heatran, mamoswine, opposing gholdengo, pecharunt, corv/skarm, dnite etc. It easily switches into to corv/skarm and can set up or throw off attacks to wear things down, which is what this team is all about. Max HP investment allows it to take any non super-effective hits from faster pokemon after which it can kill them in return. Bonus points for latias donor which can trick people into thinking it's levitate

1709123944151.png

coalossal/houndstone (Chesnaught) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body / Fluffy
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Spikes
- Synthesis

Like I mentioned previously I opted for chesnaught as the spike setter mainly because of prevalence of rain. I prefer flame body over fluffy because it's literally game over if the opponents main wallbreaker(s) get crippled. It's also nice versus u-turn/flip turn/knock off spammers. Iron defense + STAB body press gives chesnaught sneaky offensive capabilities, in fact I've had many late games where the opponents ghost types/special attackers are dead and nothing can stop chesnaught from cleaning up.
1709126082430.png

latios (Pecharunt) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 104 SpA / 48 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Recover
- Malignant Chain

Finally I have pecharunt as the dedicated spin blocker. I opted for colbur berry because this thing gets knocked off 99% of the games I play anyways, so might as well take less damage. Weird EV spread because ghost types, like opposing gholdengo and pecharunt, are annoying for this team so I like to outspeed and have enough damage to be able to threaten them. Strong malignant chain is also good versus fairy types which goodra can struggle against since it doesn't have any moves to hit them. But overall this thing is really just here for spin blocking- it offers a little added defensive/offensive value but the other pokemon on this team do those things way better.

Proof of peak:

Good news Frantic Fusions nation; we got OMoTM the third time in a row of being eligible! Council is likely going to do a vote on some Pokemon after a few days of the ladder being up, but in the meantime, get ready for a hopefully enjoyable month of the metagame!

As a reminder though, please remain civil in the thread during discussions. Last time we had some pretty weird things going on and it'd be best for that stuff to not happen again. Everyone behind the screen is a human being just like you. Differences don't matter at the end of the day.

Now it's time to fuse some Pokemon...frantically.

Intimidate is goated so let me talk a little but about my little goblin friend

He's weird, but he works. Boasting the highest defensive donations of any intimidate Pokemon on both sides of the spectrum, alongside ok offenses and thankfully minimal speed allowing for slower pivots, Scrafty is an incredibly potent donor. This allows for incredibly tanky physical pivots among the likes of Corviknight :corviknight:, Skarmory:skarmory: or Mandibuzz:mandibuzz:. I find that it has some benefits over fluffy in that it can be used even after the wall switches out, which then helps out teammates. Intimidate can also be cycled repeatedly until a desired result is reached, meaning that its usual 0.66x modifier can pass Fluffy's:houndstone: 0.50x modifier. Intimidate also has another benefit of working on non contact moves, which will continue to be widespread so long as Glory is against banning the Ogerpons (appreciate your work on the tier though).

Bold thing to say for someone who’s in Draco Meteor range.

We all know how insane Latios is, you might be able to expect something soon but you didn’t hear it from me :3

As a stall player, Latios has not been very threatening to me. Goodra-Hisui Hydrapple with Assault Vest absolutely walls Latios and can force it out using Dragon Tail. Latios also is not very fast and needs a Choice Scarf to outspeed many offensive Pokemon, such as Sneasler, Roaring Moon, Ogerpon, etc, since it primarily runs Adaptability from Porygon-Z.

iirc Sneaseler was way too broken. Lycanroc-dusk donating to it makes it kill Great Tusk at +2 if it uses Chesnaught (random defensive mon for example) with max/max evs. Fire punch for Fluffy steels (Corv) and Ghold. Dire Claw BS. Could use Throat Chop and suddenly Pecha gets smacked and FF Ghold will lose as well. It limits the builder big time imo but people sleep on it

I have two teams here that I like to use.
The first one is relatively easy to use and hopefully can win or come back from a few games:

New round of FF, new round of being reminded that Good as Gold brings nothing to this meta. I really do love FF and I think GaG is a steaming pile of shit right on top of a cleanly cut gem. I'm so valiant in my hatred because I want to see FF become better. If I didn't like the meta, I'd stop playing it like I did with BH. I stand by all my arguments why GaG sucks and should go and nothing has changed. Besides the ad hominems, sorry.
I've also seen bounce+gag hazard stack stall which is just completely vile
Something else related but I don't hate it as much, triple regen. I support a 2 ability cap because only regen is used 3 times. I have not seen any other ability used 3 times (primarily because not many good ones have over 2, MG and TC for example) so this would nerf regen primarily. Triple regen allows too much flexibility in defensive cores and is pretty much only used by stall (like GaG which is used on hazard stack stall which is already coming back). It is incredibly powerful because people like Inky can attest that he can just use 2 full spdef vesters and don't give a flying fuck about special attackers, and also has the ability to use a regen mon for physdef. Extremely flexible and powerful, doesn't really add anything to the meta. As for balance cores they already use at max 2, the third could be a breaker without regen.

Sweepers I have found to be very useful

New bans have came out! We took action on Pokemon we've seen a lot of complaints about after the little time we've had a ladder, so see these as a quick neutering attempt to some threats.

:sv/ogerpon-wellspring::sv/sneasler:
Ogerpon-Wellspring and Sneasler are now banned from Frantic Fusions!
:ogerpon-wellspring:
Ogerpon-Wellspring was an already controversial Pokemon since the last time we were OMoTM, and for good reason. Once fused with offensive boosters to its power such as Basculin, Lokix, and the like, it was a very hard Pokemon to deal with; checks that would usually do good into it like Raging Bolt and Houndstone + Corviknight lose to both a boosted Power Whip after some chip and Ivy Cudgel respectively, the latter due to it not being a contact move. Offensive counterplay was somewhat sufficient but that applies to mostly every breaker, and the offensive counterplay in question (Roaring Moon, Sneasler, etc.) couldn't even switch in! As such, Ogerpon-Wellspring is now banned in Frantic Fusions.

:sneasler:
Sneasler in theory seems ridiculous to allow in this metagame as once fused with Sawsbuck or Jirachi, Serene Grace + Dire Claw means it will always disrupt the opponent and become an annoying stick in the mud. However, the main reason why Sneasler was banned because of Tough Claws once fused with Lycanroc-Dusk. After a Swords Dance boost and equipped with a Life Orb, Sneasler can often one shot its best would-be check, Great Tusk + Klawf. The coverage it had was minimal but absolutely supported it, Fire Punch can beat Colbur Berry Gholdengo and Corviknight + Houndstone, while Lash Out could be used to hit the former without a Colbur Berry along with Pecharunt. It's raw strength and speed made it an incredible pain on the builder. The council has acknowledged it, and has unanimously banned it from Frantic Fusions.

:gholdengo::latios::ogerpon-cornerstone:
The above three Pokemon have stayed legal, but we will continue to monitor them. Gholdengo innately passing Good as Gold can cause some issues when it comes to fighting some team styles, Latios has extreme strength but counterplay on both sides exists and are viable, and Ogerpon-Cornerstone may have more offensive potential than Ogerpon-Wellspring, but its typing is much less desirable.

Besides all of the tiering discussion, the tier has seemed to be in a state where nothing too obnoxious is going around, oftentimes its things about Regenerator spam or some offensive threats being annoying in game but when this metagame is as variable as it is, solutions to those problems can commonly be found. Thanks for playing, and stay tuned for more!
Tagging dhelmise to implement.

This team has 0 phazing, unaware, or setup and likely just loses to fast Swords Dance/NPlot users, no offense.

Stall isn't super popular these days but generally you want 3 regens, an unaware, an MGuard (to soak status/hazards), and at least one fluffy, with phazing + hazard removal + some sort of setup as a late-game win-con (ex, bulk up Gapdos)

I support a 2 ability cap because only regen is used 3 times.

I would not be opposed to a 2AC. Regenerator is a useful ability to restrict somewhat, but it would also be relevant to deter weather teams from dominating. While Swift Swim is easily the main contender, it would be possible for Chlorophyll/Sand Rush/Slush Rush to be a full team strategy: fill your team with your designated weather setter, and fill the rest with Pokemon that abuse that weather to outspeed whatever is in front of them. I think a 2AC would make such teams easier to handle, as a lot of these abusers pack a lot of power behind them as well. I do also think 2AC would be good from a teambuilding perspective; allowing for more interesting sets in the builder to replace a lot of the common repetitive sets (yes this would mainly apply to regen but I would love to see what other options people come up with in its place).

Now for something completely different:

We all know how insane Latios is

Latios is crazy strong, and I will admit I am a little surprised Sneasler had action taken on it and not Latios. With that being said however, there does seem to be one common Latios set being run, and I personally think that I have uncovered a better one.

:porygon-z:
1720365291382.png

Unsurprisingly, people love the power of Adaptability Porygon-Z, especially off of these strong stats and STAB combination. However, I would argue that there is something else that may prove to be the superior Latios...

:yanmega:
1720365357731.png

Tinted Lens is an amazing ability. In exchange for a little bit of firepower, you can now outspeed and revenge-kill the Adaptability Latios, as well as seriously scare a lot of defensive titans that thought they could wall you, such as Corviknight. You often to not need more moves than your two STABs (and it helps that Luster Purge is an amazing move in this context). Personally my favourite way to run this is below, as you often rarely need any other moves on it.

I would not be opposed to a 2AC.

OM Council has explicitly stated they will *never* put 2AC or 1AC in, and trying to do so to nerf regenerator (which is in as healthy of a state right now as it has been for the tier, period) is bad and I believe a blacklisted topic (mostly due to my own actions lmao)?

Agreed here, Adaptability Latios is really overrated and pretty easy to wall with mons like Corv. Another variation I like is Psy Surge Latios as a late-game cleaner/revenge killer thats' very difficult to kill thanks to psy terrains' priority immune (which normally is one of the best checks to Latios)

Ceruledge is ridiculously broken, fire ghost is very hard to wall and it can use so many abilities to blow past its checks. Ogerpon-Cornerstone is equally dumb too but shes already on the radar. Cornerstone also has less variability in sets, primarily running adapt or rocky payload. I'd recommend taking a look at ceruledge.

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Ceruledge Poltergeist vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Great Tusk: 200-237 (46 - 54.6%) -- 56.3% chance to 2HKO

what happens when you EV to outspeed adamant basc ceruledge

That doesn’t sound that good. A likely 3HKO on a Great Tusk fusion is quite normal for a generic offensive attacker. In addition, after Ceruledge uses Poltergeist, it has to deal with an Earthquake or Knock Off from the Great Tusk, which will certainly cripple it.

Wanted to post this set. It walls 2 very scary breakers in Cinderace@Rampardos and Ceruledge, lose the balloon for the latter. Also beats Heatran sets before losing balloon. Its very flexible and helped a lot with my team. I was using WBB before but realized that Heatran is just better even without the +2 to defense.

Pecharunt can also be used this way since it can still beat Ceruledge after losing the balloon, and wall the same Cinderace sets. Cinderace uses Gunk Shot + Pyro Ball coverage the most, Pecharunt doesn't have an immunity to poison but it won't do a lot considering its 160 base defense and quad resist. It is weaker on the special attacking side but is far bulkier physically. Its also faster than uninvested Great Tusk@Klawf, 103(Ghold) vs 105(Tusk) vs 107(Pecharunt).
Infact it is so much more bulkier that even uninvested, you are bulkier than 100% invested physdef ghold by 33 def points.
1720457081204.png

This EV spread is 25% physically bulkier than that Ghold set. A lot of EVs to work with. I think pecharunt works better on more defensive teams because of that big hit to spatk. Both uninvested is a 90 point difference, 32% damage difference. Not including the fact Ghold has Make it Rain which pokemon like Tusk don't resist unlike Malignant.

Decent alternative physdef pivot, key notes are resistance to grass, fire, and water vs tusk which is weak to 2 of those. Also has access to a usable special attacking stat which is boosted by Hydrapple. Iron defense + body press has a lot of snowball potential when you've weakened a team enough. Though leftovers might be better.
It needs team support, and Tusk is just better overall since it can act alone more but needs support against Ogerpon and other physical grass or water types.
