[OVERVIEW]

Gallade's Mega Evolution grants it a crucial Speed boost and a massive Attack increase that meshes well with its expansive movepool to make for a worthy addition to any offensive team. Mega Gallade's versatility is unparalleled, boasting great boosting moves such as Swords Dance and Bulk Up, as well as great utility options such as Will-O-Wisp and Skill Swap. Mega Gallade's well-round stats allow it to take some hits with its respectable bulk and still hit hard even without a boost. However, Mega Gallade sits at the crowded base 110 Speed tier, meaning that facing common Pokemon such as Gengar, Latios, and Latias requires it to take a gamble. Mega Gallade is also rather weak when not Mega-Evolved, which can be problematic if the opponent is able to constantly apply pressure. In addition to this, Mega Slowbro and Mega Sableye are perfect checks to Mega Gallade, and they are quite common in the OU tier.

Moves
========

Swords Dance is used to boost Mega Gallade's Attack, making it even harder to switch into. Drain Punch is Mega Gallade's main STAB attack, providing it with both offensive presence and longevity. Close Combat can be used for wallbreaking purposes, hitting insanely hard even without an Attack boost; however, this comes with the risk of foes taking advantage of the defense drops. Ice Punch gives Mega Gallade the ability to get past Garchomp, Gliscor, and Landorus-T more easily. Knock Off gives Mega Gallade decent coverage by hitting Psychic-types and is a good move to spam in general. Shadow Sneak improves Mega Gallade's matchup against offensive threats such as Starmie, Alakazam, and Mega Alakazam while not risking Speed ties with Gengar, Latios, and Latias. Zen Headbutt rounds off Mega Gallade's moveset with a strong STAB move to smack Fairies and threats such as Mega Venusaur and Keldeo. Alternatively, if your team already has answers to these, Substitute can be used to capitalize on all the switches that Mega Gallade forces.

Set Details
========

The EV spread is standard for a physical attacker, with maximum Speed investment and a Jolly nature allowing Mega Gallade to maintain its great Speed tier, outspeeding the likes of Keldeo, and Garchomp and Speed tying with Latios, Latias, Gengar, and Mega Metagross. Justified allows Mega Gallade to switch into weak or non-STAB Dark-type moves such as Knock Off and gain a free +1 Attack boost. An Adamant nature can be used to increase Mega Gallade's wallbreaking potential, allowing it to OHKO or 2HKO several bulkier Pokemon such as maximum HP Mega Altaria and Magic Guard Clefable with Zen Headbutt and defensive Garchomp and defensive Skarmory after Stealth Rock with Close Combat. The loss of Speed, however, will allow Pokemon such as Keldeo and Landorus to outspeed Mega Gallade.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Gallade's nice special bulk allows it to switch into weak special attacks even before Mega Evolving. Either way, Gallade should Mega Evolve as soon as possible to gain the crucial stat boosts, especially to its Speed, which otherwise sits at a mediocre base 80. Swords Dance can be set up rather easily against defensive teams; against more offensive teams, Mega Gallade should just start attacking straight away. Physical Dark-type attacks will still hurt, so don't switch into strong Knock Off users recklessly for the Justified boost.

Team Options
========

Bisharp and Mega Gallade form an excellent core, as both members can easily remove their counterpart's checks. Heatran can slow down Unaware Clefable and provides both a reliable Talonflame check and a much-needed Fairy resistance while being able to set up Stealth Rock. Entry hazard setters such as Landorus-T, Ferrothorn, Garchomp, and Tyranitar work well to whittle down foes while also handling some of Mega Gallade's checks such as Talonflame, Gengar, Latios, and Latias. Klefki and Ferrothorn can provide Spikes and Thunder Wave support for Mega Gallade to take advantage of mid- to late-game to sweep or to Mega Evolve more easily. Rotom-W and Landorus-T form a VoltTurn core that can also lure in Pokemon that Mega Gallade can take advantage of, such as Mega Venusaur, Ferrothorn, and Chesnaught. Teammates that can beat or take advantage of Mega Gallade's biggest checks in Mega Slowbro and Mega Sableye make great partners, including Sylveon, Talonflame, Volcarona, Gliscor, and Calm Mind + Magic Guard Clefable,. Dragalge and Tentacruel can use Toxic Spikes, which can rack up damage very quickly as Mega Gallade forces switches.

Other Options
=============

Mega Gallade's movepool contains many utility moves and usable options, most of which can be situationally useful. Taunt can be used to stallbreak or prevent a foe from setting up for free, Skill Swap completely shuts down Mega Sableye, Bulk Up can be used on a more bulky set, Leaf Blade can be used to deal slightly more damage to Mega Slowbro, Will-O-Wisp can be used to catch common switch-ins such as Azumarill, and Destiny Bond can be used to let Mega Gallade try to bring a foe down with it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Azumarill, Whimsicott, Sylveon, Togekiss, and Clefable resist Close Combat and Knock Off while being able to hit Mega Gallade super effectively.

**Revenge Killers**: Common priority moves can finish off a weakened Mega Gallade or outright OHKO it, as its Defense isn't too good. Talonflame and Mega Pinsir always have a form of Flying-type priority, so these two are extremely dangerous to Mega Gallade. In addition, faster Pokemon such as Mega Aerodactyl, Tornadus-T, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Alakazam, and Mega Pidgeot can come in and revenge kill Mega Gallade.

**Mega Slowbro and Mega Sableye**: These two Pokemon resist almost everything Mega Gallade can throw at them and can use most variants as setup fodder.

**Bulky Psychic-types**: Bulky Psychic-types such as stallbreaker Mew and Cresselia can easily heal off the damage from Knock Off and whittle Mega Gallade down or force it out. If Mega Gallade fails to set up Swords Dance, Slowbro can slow it down with Thunder Wave.

tbh i would make sd the only set and the main slashes you have the only slashes. mega gallade really needs sd to break past bulkier teams (without mega sableye of course, this is mainly referring to balanced builds without mega sableye and bulky offense type teams) and it really needs zen headbutt so it can ohko keldeo and isn't walled by clefable/azumarill, which is a pretty bad position to be stuck in.

I would also put Manaphy (with energy ball), specs Sylveon and Cm+MG Clefable in team options as they can beat Mega Sableye and Slowbro. I'm kinda new here, so bear with me :)

Surprised you haven't mentioned Clefable or Sylveon in team options yet. You need Sableye checks when using Gallade and fairy types do just that.

Yeah just elaborate more on all the little details and sentences such as your checks and counters section and anything else that has little details in them.

By any chance is Poison Jab viable enough for OO? Unaware Clefable is commonly accepted as one of Mega Gallade's best counters, but if it tries to switch into a Poison Jab it gets straight-up 2HKO'd.
252 Atk Mega Gallade Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 184-218 (46.7 - 55.3%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Also what about a SubPunch mention in OO?

Beef up the team options with more specifics such as what hazard setters like Landorus-T and Ferrothorn provided in terms of offensive and defensive synergy, along with Tyranitar to check Talonflame, Gengar, and the Latis. Describe what each Other Option provides in more detail as well. Under usage tips establish that although it has the ability Justified prior to evolution, that is not a pass to be switching into Dark type moves such as Knock Off Bisharp which shaves off around half of its health off the bat. You would want to switch into foes such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar locked into a Pursuit, Landorus-T locked into Stone Edge, just some examples of how you would get M-Gallade in a bit more safely. QC 1/3 after this.

mention that stuff that takes advantage on mega sableye / clefable, such as sd gliscor, stealth rock heatran, volcarona, and sd talonflame make for good teammates and can apply great pressure onto opposing teams. also mention in usage tips that in a pinch, gallade can use its good bulk to set up a swords dance or strong special attackers such as keldeo. mention t-spikes support from dragalge and tentacruel in team options becuase it forces a lot on switches. otherwise it looks fine, qc 2/3.

I think Ice Punch can be run over Knock Off instead of over Zen Headbutt. Zen Headbutt is indispensable since without it, you're walled by M-Venusaur, Amoongus, and any poison type really. Zen Headbutt is also useful for KOing opposing fighting types like Conk and Keldeo without the defense drops. Knock Off is great for crippling switch-ins. But Bisharp does this well anyways (A common teammate for Gallade). Not to mention SD Knock Off fails to KO many bulky psychic types who would normally wall Gallade. M-Slowbro, Cresselia, etc.

When mentioning Heatran as a teammate for Mega Gallade, mention that Magma Storm + Solarbeam variants can also lure in Mega Slowbro and KO it, since Mega Gallade has huge issues with Mega Bro, especially Double Dance variants that set up on it easily.

I'd also mention Manaphy in Team Options, Manaphy can take advantage of almost every defensive answer to Mega Gallade and use them as setup fodder. Likewise Gallade beats things like Mega Venu, Ferrothorn, Amoongus, etc. that otherwise hinder Manaphy.

I think that I would rather run 4 SpD instead of HP as it means less Spikes + Stealth Rock damage, and also less sandstorm damage.

horyzhnz are we set for last QC check?

Edit: This is ready for 3rd QC for whoever reads this.

One thing, Skill Swap in other options also helps against other threats such as Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, and Sylveon, blocking the pixilate boost and type change.
As for teammates I would also consider Taunt on Heatran, capable of shutting down fairy types like Clefable, non eq Mega Altaria, Togekiss and Sylveon, while also setting up rocks for Gallade, TG+RD Manaphy is also another good choice, as it eats alive Mega Sableye, and also Mega Slowbro and Azumarill if with Energy Ball.

Also, not sure if Mew can be considered a true Mega Gallade answer, as its ohkoed by +2 Knock Off

In the C&C section, you should mention a number of revenge killers that can easily check Gallade (if you do add this section, merge it with priority). Some that come to mind are CB zor, Tornadus-T, Mega Pidgeot, Scarf Landorus-T, and Mega Aerodactyl.

You should mention Ice punch as OO, it used to be useful on needed basis for pokemon like Gliscor / Landorus-T or Garchomp Defensive.

Then i dont get why there is not Ground Types section as check, i as said Hippodown / Garchomp defensive / Landorus-T / Gliscor are great check against Gallade, landorus can hit and run with uturn in addition to pressure it with intimidate while hippowdon can possibly check it with Eartquake and Slack off, don't need to explain for garchomp.

Seconding Magcargo on the fact that you should mention a revenge killer section with pokemon such as Tornadus-T / Aerodactyle / Pidgeot / Pinsir

After those changes 3/3

OO
  • Add Drain Punch. Gallade has just enough bulk to abuse it on a Bulk Up set (Sub or otherwise).
  • Can we please nix Shadow Sneak? We all know it's bad and it can't even kill its primary targets without the boost, making it a horrible revenge killing tool.
252 Atk Mega Gallade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Latios: 140-166 (46.8 - 55.5%) -- 71.1% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Mega Gallade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 158-188 (61 - 72.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

OO
  • Replace Leaf Blade with Night Slash, as it lets you retain Knock Off's (most likely candidate for replace-able move) coverage while still hitting Slowbro. Also does slightly more damage than Knock Off to Mega Metagross.
I'm pretty sure this was a mistake, but night slash only has 70 BP, not 90, so it doesn't hit slowbro that much harder.
