[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp acts as an offensive Stealth Rock setter on balance and bulky offense teams which appreciate its ability to consistently set up Stealth Rock by pressuring defoggers such as Zapdos. Additionally, Garchomp offers good defensive utility by checking Heatran along with a decent natural bulk and typing that grants it useful resistances as well as an Electric immunity. Earthquake is the STAB move of choice, allowing Garchomp to immediately threaten Ground weak pokemon such as Heatran, Magearna and Mega Mawile. After a Swords Dance, Continental Crush lets Garchomp deal significant damage to ground immune Pokemon such as Corviknight, Landorus-T, and Mega Latias as well as OHKO Rillaboom. Alternatively, Dragonium Z with Outrage can be used to achieve feats such as OHKOing Slowbro and Tangrowth after Stealth Rock, but it is worse against Corviknight and Clefable. Maximum Speed and Attack investment with a Jolly nature fully utilises Garchomp's good Attack stat and Speed tier, allowing it to outspeed base 100s such as Mega Charizard Y, Mega Medicham and Volcarona.

Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Corviknight, Mega Scizor and Magearna appreciate Garchomp's ability to deal with Heatran, and they also provide a switch in to Fairy, Dragon, and Ice-type moves. Additionally, Spikes Ferrothorn forms a hazard stacking core with Garchomp while Corviknight can get rid of entry hazards to prevent it from being worn down too quickly. Magnezone is an especially great partner for the Dragonium Z set due to its ability to trap Corviknight and deal with Clefable.

Other Options
=============

Scale Shot can be used to help Garchomp function as a late game cleaner, but it is not usually worth using due to being highly inconsistent. A mixed set with Fire Blast can be used to threaten Corviknight and Tangrowth if the team cannot afford to use a Z move on Garchomp but it is generally not recommended.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Clefable**: Clefable lives +2 Earthquake fairly easily and has a very good chance to live +2 Continental Crush from full while dealing a lot of damage with Moonblast.

**Tangrowth**: Tangrowth can live any move from Garchomp aside from boosted Devastating Drake with Stealth Rock up and threaten it with Hidden Power Ice or Sleep Powder.

**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Ash Greninja, Weavile and Mega Lopunny can all outspeed and threaten to do a lot of damage to Garchomp.
