Gardening

How interested are you in gardening? Living in Newquay, England for at least 1/3 of the year whilst looking after my rich grandparents I've taken quite a keen interest in gardening.. what about you, o Smogon?

Last summer I got really into growing a few weed plants. Not really trying to harvest them just grow something. I was thinking about taking advantage of this little area I have right in front of my house. Grow some legal plants and such.

I've done a bit. Last stuff I did was mainly spraying weedkiller and razing stuff to the ground. Brambles are the spawn of the devil.
There's loads of bulbs in our back garden, so probably fairly soon it'll be full of bluebells and daffodils and whatever else they are. Then the goldenrod might shoot up, though I did weedkiller it before. Garden's pretty wild really, we don't do an awful lot with it.

I grow cherry tomatoes, wine, parsley, mulberry, peppers, basil, cress, onions, mint and strawberries in our garden =D

truth be told, I have never gardened. I come from a whole family of farmers. Everybody from my grandparents and backwards were farmers. No one really finished school, and everyone worked the land. My parents were not farmers but they really wanted me to school, and as a lazy child I really never wanted to work on a farm or in a garden.

But my attitude has greatly changed over the last 6 months. This year, I want to at least try and grow potatoes. My dad and my step mom had a garden and grew quite a bit of food. I began to realize that those who can grow food and sustain themselves and their families will be MUCH better off in hard times, than those that make tons of money and go grocery shopping.

Well, that was long. To sum up I orginally had no interest, but now I realize it is an important skill because humans always have to eat. So being able to make food with your bare hands and a little bit of the sun's love is really appealing to me these days.

My dad is huge in gardening, but I never have been. I usually have this horrible habit of killing off plants, haha. But! I'm getting better. My bosses gave me some cactus plants in January of 2009; it's still alive. In fact, two of them are over a foot high now. Crazy!

I took the initiative about 7 months ago to buy some leafy plants, and so far so good, they're healthy and happy (even if I occasionally forget to water them). Maybe when I'm older and after I manage to keep plants alive for longer than a year I will consider attempting to plant a garden. :)

Used to have a garden in my backyard. Had a grapevine, grew tomatoes, corns, and some other things you don't see in regular grocery stores and are kind of exotic (forgot what they were called). Now I can't garden because I live in an apartment now and lack the time to grow a plant in my balcony >.<
