Gastrodon [0/3]

274ppm.jpg

[OVERVIEW]

  • A great typing in Water/Ground and access to Storm Drain as an ability gives Gastrodon immunities to Water and Electric while leaving it weak to only Grass
  • A really solid HP stat with Recover to back it up, though undone by its low Defense
  • Storm Drain gives Gastrodon immunity to Water Type moves and boosts its nice Special Attack if it is hit by a Water move
  • Really low Speed makes it outsped by near everything
  • Competition with Blastoise and Slowbro as bulky Water Types, as both are overall more bulky, better at walling, and offer more utility
  • Extremely passive playstyle makes it vulnerable to strong wallbreakers such as Vanilluxe and Medicham while also being fodder for Sceptile and Vivillon
[SET]

Name: Defensive
move 1: Scald
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Recover
move 4: Toxic
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
=====
  • Scald is the most optimal Water STAB as Gastrodon really appreciates burning physical attackers
  • Earthquake is Ground STAB that can threaten Dry Skin users like Toxicroak and Heliolisk with an OHKO
  • Recover gives Gastrodon a way to recover some of its large HP back
  • Toxic cripples almost every Pokemon except for Poison/Steel Types which don't like to take an Earthquake and Xatu
Set Details
========
  • 252 HP is to maximize Gastrodon's bulk
  • 252 Defense and a Bold nature gives Gastrodon a lot better time taking physical attacks
  • Leftovers helps sustain Gastrodon without using Recover
  • Storm Drain is the best ability for Gastrodon, giving it the ability to absorb Water Type moves for a special attack boost
Usage Tips
========
  • Gastrodon loves to switch into Water Type attacks and gain the special attack boost, allowing it to hit pretty hard even on neutral atttacks
  • Never keep Gastrodon in on any Grass Type or Pokemon that runs any Grass Type moves such as Vivillon and Vikavolt, even if Gastrodon is boosted, its really low speed is basically asking for your Gastrodon to be taken out
  • Gastrodon really doesn't like to be Taunted from Jellicent or Mismagious, preventing it from using Recover and Toxic
  • Gastrodon's low Defense and Speed make it really difficult to use Recover effectively against physical attackers

Team Options
==========
  • Pokemon who have an easy time switching into Grass Types and KOing them for Gastrodon: like Incineroar and Golbat
  • Teammates who can remove Toxic like Aromatisse and Mega Audino from Gastrodon, making its job as a wall a lot more easier
  • Teammates who can remove Toxic Spikes like Garbodor or Altaria for the same reason as above
  • Pokemon who appreciate Gastrodon's ability to switch into Water attacks like Incineroar, Rhydon, and Piloswine, giving the a free switch out and giving Gastrodon a nice special attack boost
Other Options
==========
  • Sludge Bomb / Sludge Wave can be used to cover Grass and Fairy Types, but mostly isn't worth it as almost every Grass Type outspeeds and OHKOs Gastrodon and almost every Fairy Type in the meta is better to just Toxic
  • 252 Special Attack EVs or Choice Specs can be run to get OHKOs and 2HKOs on mons such as Steelix or Klinklang without boosting, but usually isn't worth giving up bulk or a better item for a chance to OHKO or 2HKO
  • Earthquake with a Relaxed Nature can be run over Earth Power to hit Assault Vest mons like Magmortar and Incineroar
  • Ice Beam can be used, but is only really useful for scaring off the likes of Altaria, Sigilyph, and Xatu. Gastrodon would usually rather Toxic or Scald everything else
Checks and Counters
================

**Grass Types / Moves**: Gastrodon is 4x weak to the type, it usually won't live a Grass Type move from anything, not to mention Grass Types also resist both of Gastrodon's STAB and in Vileplume's case: are immune to Toxic

**Toxic / Toxic Spikes**: They ruin Gastrodon's longevity by whittling it down over time constantly, usually making Recover not as useful

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users like Jellicent and Mismagius prevent Gastrodon from using Recover or Toxic, both of which are very important to Gastrodon

**Bulky Status Absorbers**: Mega Audino and Aromatisse can withstand Gastrodon's attacks and can simply Heal Bell and Wish away Toxic damage, Gastrodon also must be careful of Facade users like Stoutland or the rare Guts Hariyama

**Water Absorbers**: Mainly Jellicent and Vaporeon as they can absorb a Scald to heal themselves, and in Jellicent's case, can Taunt Gastrodon to prevent Toxic and Recover. Heliolisk and Toxicroak also can absorb Scald, but they don't want to take an Earth Power or Earthquake

[OVERVIEW]

  • A great typing in Water/Ground making it only weak to Grass and giving it an immunity to Electric - this should be combined with the fourth sentence / bullet. Then, you should specify what Gastrodon's typing + Storm Drain allow it to check.
  • A really solid HP stat with Recover to back it up
  • Unfortunately, its great HP is undone by its middling Special Defense and low Defense - Its Special Defense isn't actually bad, just its Defense.
  • Storm Drain gives Gastrodon immunity to Water Type moves and boosts its nice Special Attack if it is hit by a Water move - Combine with first sentence / bullet, like said before.
  • Give a bullet stating how passive Gastrodon is, and what mons can use it as setup fodder
  • Really low Speed makes it outsped by near everything
  • Competition with Jellicent and Slowbro as bulky Water Types - Why? What do Jellicent and Slowbro offer that Gastrodon doesn't?
[SET]

Moves
=====
  • Scald is just good Water STAB, Gastrodon also heavily appreciates burning physical attackers
  • Earth Power is Gastrodon's Ground STAB that can handle Steelix and Garbodor well, it also scares Dry Skin Pokemon like Toxicroak and Heliolisk from switching in
  • Recover gives Gastrodon a way to... well recover
  • Toxic is to deter Pokemon like Slowbro and Mega Audino from Calm Minding in Gastrodon's face, it also wears down some bulkier Pokemon like Pyukumuku and Jellicent who Gastrodon normally can't damage
  • Ice Beam can be used, but is only really useful for scaring off the likes of Altaria, Sigilyph, and Xatu. Gastrodon would usually rather Toxic or Scald everything else - I wouldn't mention this here.
  • As a general note, this entire section is technically correct but this isn't how you write an analysis. The grammar isn't right in this, so when you get QC 2/3 make sure you clean this entire analysis up before sending it into GP.
Set Details
========
Usage Tips
========
  • Gastrodon loves to switch into Water Type attacks (from what mons?) and gain the special attack boost, allowing it to hit pretty hard even on neutral atttacks
  • Never keep Gastrodon in on any Pokemon that runs any Grass Type move (give examples), even if Gastrodon is boosted, its really low speed is basically asking for your Gastrodon to be taken out
  • Gastrodon really doesn't like to be Taunted (by?), preventing it from using Recover and Toxic
  • Even when boosted, Gastrodon wasn't built to sweep, Storm Drain is just mostly good for a free switch in. this doesn't really make sense here, there's not really a point being proven
  • Gastrodon's low defenses and speed make it really difficult to use Recover effectively - I don't even think this point is really correct, considering the amount of Pokemon Gastrodon walls and therefore the opportunities it gets to use recover

Team Options
==========
  • Pokemon who have an easy time switching into Grass Types and KOing them: like Scyther and Golbat - Scyther is irrelevant, replace it with a better example like Incineroar or Venusaur
  • Teammates who can remove Toxic like Aromatisse and Mega Audino from Gastrodon
  • Teammates who can remove Toxic Spikes like Garbodor or Altaria - Altaria is pretty bad too, maybe mention Rotom-N instead, also I think Venusaur is a better example here than Garbodor
  • Pokemon who appreciate Gastrodon's ability to switch into Water attacks like Incineroar and Piloswine
  • this is actually a solid section, but it would be a lot better if you just fleshed this out more, as of right now it sounds really bare
Other Options
==========
  • Sludge Bomb / Wave can be used to cover Grass and Fairy Types, but mostly isn't worth it as almost every Grass Type outspeeds and OHKOs Gastrodon and almost every Fairy Type in the meta is better to just Toxic

Checks and Counters
================

**Grass Moves**: Gastrodon is 4x weak to this, it usually won't live a Grass Type move from anything - really bare, you need to add examples, like venusaur and sceptile

**Toxic / Toxic Spikes**: They ruin Gastrodon's longevity and makes Recover a lot harder to use - you might want to just regulate this to a bullet called "status" mentioning burn as well

**Taunt Users**: Prevent Gastrodon from using Recover or Toxic, both of which are very important to Gastrodon - give examples of Taunt users

**Bulky Status Absorbers**: Mega Audino and Aromatisse can withstand Gastrodon's attacks and can simply Heal Bell and Wish away Toxic damage, Aromatisse does have to be wary of Gastrodons with Special Attack investment though - nobody runs offensive gastrodon, so remove this last part. also, stoutland might be worth mentioning here since it gets a facade boost from scald burn

**Water Absorbers**: Mainly Jellicent and Vaporeon they can absorb a Scald to heal themselves, and in Jellicent's case, can Taunt Gastrodon to prevent Toxic and Recover. Heliolisk and Toxicroak also can absorb Scald, but they don't want to take an Earth Power or Earthquake - this is an example of what this section should look like, you just need to flesh everything out a lot more
This needs to be fleshed out a lot in general. It's just really bare, you need to use actual sentences when you write this up.

Implement the above and I'll give it a look over, though I'd recommend mentioning just how vulnerable Gastro is to Toxic, in addition to the changes proposed above.

Moves
=====
  • Scald is the most optimal Water STAB as Gastrodon really appreciates burning physical attackers
  • Earth Power is Gastrodon's preferred Ground STAB as it can handle Steelix and Garbodor well, it also scares Dry Skin Pokemon like Toxicroak and Heliolisk from switching into a Scald EQ hits Heliolisk for an OHKO without sacrificing too much vs other targets, as bro comes down to a toxic stall war most of the time, and like, OHKOing lisk is just really important.
  • Recover gives Gastrodon a way to recover some of its large HP back
  • Toxic is to deter Pokemon like Slowbro and Mega Audino from setting up in Gastrodon's face, it also wears down some bulkier Pokemon like Pyukumuku and Jellicent who Gastrodon normally can't damage at all Setting up is the wrong way to describe what Slowbro and Maud do, just emphasize that it cripples them, and remove the latter two mons, and then note that its just a safe move to click, as it hits everything but Xatu / Poison / Steel types.

Implement the spread I put above. spdef and sassy is for lisk, physical bulk is for a better M/U vs Croak and Klinky boy.

  • Teammates who can remove Toxic like Aromatisse and Mega Audino from Gastrodon, making its job as a wall a lot more easier. Also Diancie
  • Teammates who can remove Toxic Spikes like Garbodor or Altaria for the same reason as above. Golbat instead of Altaria. note that golbat is toxic immune, and styles on literally every grass
  • Pokemon who appreciate Gastrodon's ability to switch into Water attacks like Incineroar, Rhydon, and Piloswine, giving the a free switch out and giving Gastrodon a nice special attack boost
  • Also Flying types that want you to switch in to electric attacks (see Rotom/Heliolisk)

Sorta remove this bullet, Jellicent and Vap don't ever want to be toxic'd and you just beat the other two.

Vanilluxe / Cryogonal both freeze dry. This kills the Gastrodon.

Rework this section, put Grasses => Toxic (spikes) => Vanilluxe/Cryo => Misc stuff.

also mention Golbat under the Toxic users explicitely, as well as mentioning that bro can just cripple gastro with toxic.

Apologies for this taking so long; I didn't know you had implemented it. Unsure if its worth putting the effort into it, given that it'll likely be leaving in a month, but w/e.

Add ice type answers, as its stupid weak to freeze dry, aka the spookiest of ice type moves.

Also add Freeze Dry users to the Checks and Counters
