What is Modern Gen 4?
Modern Gen 4, or MG4 for short, is a Solomod that applies Gen 4 mechanics to Gen 9 National Dex, meaning that the power of moves, the effects of abilities and items, and other mechanics such as Steel not resisting Fairy, weather, and hazards are different compared to base Gen 9 National Dex. The mechanics are taken from gen4customgame on PS! and are not altered as such.

Q: How do I build a team?
There are multiple ways to build a team in the Pokemon Showdown builder. I would recommend creating a National Dex Ubers/OU team and selecting the Pokemon and moves that you want, as you normally would.

Reasoning

Counterplay to Gholdengo seems easier considering that Fairy-types no longer are walled by it, but with Good as Gold, its Ghost-typing, and general effectiveness when it comes to hazard stacking, it was called out for being a constricting force that makes one go out of their way too far to deal with it in the builder by using a strong Fire- or Ground-type. There's a chance it may be freed in the future, but to play it safer it is now banned.


With Surging Strikes having a doubled crit hit increase compared to 1.5x, Urshifu has been a controversial figure in the tier due to lack of reliable switch-ins and little counterplay boosted or un-boosted. If it comes into the field, it likely will be claiming a Pokemon or two and pose an extreme threat because of how potent its STABs and coverage are against most of the tier.

Rain is not permanent, you have to set it manually which makes Manaphy significantly worse. The only permanent weathers are Sand/Hail (not snow).

yeah Drizzle and Drought are banned so there's no Hydration antics. Also, Tail Glow here is only +2 SpA instead of +3. I don't see how Manaphy is broken in any possible way, there are a handful of better waters

All the stuff I used / built during semis and finals of the kickoff tour, I think I lost all my old stuff but it was pretty bad anyway. Are these teams perfect? Not at all lmao I just threw shit together and stole some regular ou teams but otherwise these are cool.
