Gen 5 Wifi OU - Screw Speed

Hey guys, I doubt you would of ever heard of me as I'm new, but I'm Tetsu :D. I hope we can get along.
So anyway, on to the team; I wanted to try a trick room team as I have never played one before and it seemed like it would be fun

Team Building Process
I wanted to start off with Escavalier, who is, in my opinion, severely underrated in Trick Room teams and is also one of my personal favourites.

Next, I wanted something to take Fire moves for Escavalier and also set up Trick Room, Jellicent sprang to mind as it is specially bulky, resists Fire, has access to Trick Room and can also burn things.

Afterwards, I wanted something that shared synergy with Jellicent who could also set up Trick Room. I tried many a Pokemon but I finally found Exeggutor who can take Grass and Electric moves for Jellicent, and in return Jellicent would take Fire, Bug and Ice moves for Exeggutor.

Since I was already on the verge of creating a Fire Water Grass core, I thought I might as well. Heatran fulfilled the job perfectly, as it also takes Dragon moves and is bulky on both sides, which benefits Jellicent and Exeggutor when one is knocked out. After testing, I found out that it is also a beast of a sweeper, which removed any thought of replacing him.

I wanted to try something new; a concept similar to Double Dragon: Double Fire. Using Heatran, I would eliminate any Rock and Dragon types that threatened to ruin the other Pokemon's sweep. All I needed now was a Fire type with high Special Attack; after hearing all the hype about Chandelure (and I personally think that Chandelure deserved the hype), I wanted to try him after Shadow Tag was banned. He could also set up Trick Room, which was an added bonus.

After testing, I found myself in need of a priority user. Naturally, any person who has played the Gen 5 metagame for a while would understand when I chose Conkeldurr.

It is as follows:
485.gif

Heatran @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SpAtk
Quiet Nature (+SpAtk, -Spd)
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Sunny Day
- Fire Blast

A rather unorthodox sweeper set; 252 HP to maximise bulk as there is no need for speed (hence the quiet nature) and 252 SpAtk and Life Orb to maximise damage. Sunny Day is there for removing weather effects after the weather inducer has been taken out (I'm not really sure about this so any advice would be welcome), this helps take care of weather abusers like Excadrill and Swift Swimmers. This guy kills the Rock, Dragon and Grass types to help Chandelure to sweep.

jellicent_animated_sprite_m_by_devinwarriors-d3cnl8h.gif

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SpDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-o-Wisp
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Trick Room

This guy has saved my behind so many times it's not even funny; the EVs are to help Jellicent tank any special attacks aimed at the other members and the Bold Nature is to help give Jellicent a little bit of physical bulk. Will-o-Wisp helps Jellicent take physical moves and also helps the other members sweep; this guy is here generally to set up Trick Room and to kill Fire types, which I have a major problem with.

103.gif

Exeggutor @ Lum Berry
Trait: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpAtk
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Rest
- Leaf Storm
- Sleep Powder

Ah, another Trick Roomer. Exeggutor shares great type synergy with Jellicent and Heatran. Harvest makes Exeggutor, in essence, a Hydration Vaporeon, it simply won't die to physical attacks; Lum Berry wakes Exeggutor from rest and Harvest recycles the berry at the end of the turn. The EVs are to maximise Exeggutor's physical bulk. Sleep Powder makes setting up Trick Room so much easier; it also effectively takes out a pokemon for the whole match; this guy is here to set up Trick Room and to make my opponent's life much harder via Sleep Powder.

chandelure_animated_sprite_by_devinwarriors-d38p0qh.gif

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 SpAtk/4 Def
Quiet Nature (+SpAtk, - Spd)
- Trick Room
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball

The EVs and Nature are there for the same reason as Heatran. This guy is a beast, literally; once it has Trick Room up, it rips apart pretty much the whole metagame (if it isn't a OHKO then it is at least a two hit KO); as an added bonus, it destroys Reuniclus who is a major threat to this team. It also has good bulk which lets it survive a lot, considering it's a candle; this guy is THE sweeper of the team with good coverage.

roobushin_animated_sprite_by_devinwarriors-d3857lg.gif

Conkeldurr @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Guts
EVs: 80 HP/ 252 Atk/ 176 SpDef
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Mach Punch
- Hammer Arm
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

I can't quite remember what the EVs do, although I did take them off the analysis (kudos to the guy that came up with those EVs, because they work like a charm). Toxic Orb activates Guts which basically gives Conkeldurr +1 attack, meaning that it can attack straight off the bat with a Choice Band but with the ability to switch moves. Hammer Arm is a good reliable STAB move that actually makes Conkeldurr faster in Trick Room; this guy is here mainly for STAB priority and a reliable STAB in Fighting.

escavalier_animated_sprite_by_devinwarriors-d38oyof.gif

Escavalier @ Choice Band
Trait: Swarm
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/ 4 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Megahorn
- Pursuit
- Iron Head
- Return

Pretty much the crux of this team; Escavalier OHKOs most of the metagame with STAB Choice Banded Megahorn and failing that, at least a two hit KO. 252 HP EVs are there to maximise bulk on both sides and the rest are self-explanatory; this guy is here to punch holes in things; massive ones.

(Promote)SYNERGY (joke aimed at people who have listened to Lonely Island's "Like a Boss")
Jellicent and Heatran take Fire moves aimed at Exeggutor, Heatran and Exeggutor take Grass moves aimed at Jellicent, Exeggutor takes Electric moves and Jellicent and Exeggutor take Fighting type moves.
Heatran takes Fire moves aimed at Escavalier and Psychic types at Conkeldurr (Escavalier does the same thing).

Offensive Threats:
Reuniclus; this thing outspeeds most of my team in Trick Room and proceeds to KO with ease.
Sawsbuck - Jump Kick, Nature Power (Earthquake) and Horn Leech gives me a lot of trouble, especially under the sun when Sawsbuck has Chlorophyll and Trick Room isn't up.
Venusaur - Pretty much the same reasons as above, except for Growth, which makes this thing a lot more of a threat.
Heatran - I literally cannot do anything to this thing if Trick Rom isn't up and Conkeldurr is dead.
Terrakion - Again, I can't do anything without Conkeldurr and Trick Room except for Will-o-Wisp with Jellicent.

Defensive Threats:
Heatran: I can't touch this thing without Trick Room or Conkeldurr.
Vaporeon: The only thing I have is Exeggutor, which dies very easily

I can't think of anymore threats, but when I do, I'll be sure to edit this post.
I hope you have enjoyed my first RMT and any advice on how to make it better would be welcomed with open arms.
Thanks.

I love trick room teams and think you are really doing something commendable. Lemme pick apart one of your Pokemon that I have some background in:

Exeggutor @ Lum Berry
Trait: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpAtk
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Rest
- Giga Drain

Exeggutor is an excellent Pokemon, but be careful; Harvest doesn't work 100% of the time. Although PO has it set to be 100% effective, the actual amount if probably around 66% regeneration. So while it is great to utilize now, I'm quite sure that PO will be changing that in the future.

Maybe try running Leaf Storm instead of Giga Drain as well! It will OHKO Swampert and other bulky waters will take a huge dent to the face. I dunno. I like the set you have on it now, it just might be something you want to tinker with! Also, Psychic is an great move on Exeggutor; STAB Psychic will take out Conkeldurr, Machamp, and Breloom while taking hits from them like a pro. Just another move to consider.

Thanks Yourself! I'll try replacing Giga Drain with Leaf Storm as you suggested but I can't really find room for Psychic; my team is in desperate need of a Grass type move and removing any moves from this set would severely hamper Exeggutor's performance. I'll get back to you after testing.

Harvest works on the same chance timer as Shed Skin it appears, not 100% of the time like PO and Serebii wrongly show. It is only 100% in Sun.

According to Serebii here, Harvest recycles the Berry 100% of the time, and therefore LumRest with Harvest is fine.

B/W research thread said:

Confirmed
: Harvest has a chance of restoring a used berry at the end of the turn. If conditions for berry use are met the berry will be immediately used, however, and not be restored again. Does not restore Berry Juice. Will always activate in sunlight. If a Pokemon uses its berry, does not regain the berry from Harvest, switches out, and then switches back in, the game still 'remembers' that the Pokemon had that berry and can regenerate it by Harvest, can regenerate its berry back on the switch(mien, CyzirVisheen, #2, #3, sb879, Pidge)

Serebii is unreliable.

I advise swapping the Toxic Orb on Conkeldurr for a Flame Orb. You'll take less residual damage in the long run, and Guts nullifies the attack dent that burn gives [you'll still get your +1, just with Burn instead of Toxic]

This piece of advice has helped me go up the ladder by several hundreds. Thanks, and I'll try replacing Toxic Orb with Flame Orb, I'll let you know how that goes.

Seeing your team (LIKE A BOSS)
Liking your team (LIKE A BOSS)
Heatran can have stealth rock over sunny day to inflict damage (LIKE A BOSS)
Jellicent can carry hail to change weather (LIKE A BOSS)

Your team needs a quick sweeper/revenge killer to deal with threats when you have no trick room.

Choice scarf Latios could help fill that hole, although I am not sure which team member you could replace it for.

Change Hammer Arm and Earthquake for Drain Punch and Bulk Up on Conkeldurr. Earthquake doesn't add much coverage anyway and Conkeldurr really needs the recover from Drain Punch or else it will just wear itself down very quickly. After a couple of Bulk Ups, Conkeldurr is ready to sweep like a boss.

I personally think that setting up with Trick Room sort of defeats the point, as you're just wasted turns when you can be punching holes in the opponent's team; thanks for your suggestion though.

I've had a thought, and I think that Conkeldurr isn't pulling his weight enough, any thoughts on a fast physical sweeper that can do a similar job? I thought about Terrakion but it shares a Water and Ground weakness with Chandelure and Heatran.

I second replacing earthquake to stone edge to rid of pesky flying types. Conkeldurr has great coverage with the rock, fighting and dark moves.
