Hello All, so I've been messing around with my sun team for a while now and I think I may have found the sweet spot for my team finally.
Sun God (Torkoal) (M) @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Solar Beam
- Body Press
So Torkoal is the ignition to my sun team and arguably my most important pokemon here since the whole thing falls apart without him.
Here I have a few coverage moves and stealth rocks because I generally do not want to send him out for too long in fear of getting poisoned or dying. I originally had rapid spin and yawn but decided to forego these moves due to torkoal just not being able to utilize them well enough. Body press handles ttar and hydreigon well enough since these are some common pokemon I see wanting to force a switch out on him.
WingLizard (Charizard) (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Solar Power
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- Focus Blast
- Dragon Pulse
This pokemon is one of my favorites on the team just because he can break just about anything that gets thrown at him when under the sun
Flamethrower is a safe move that doesnt miss (unlike fire blast) and with 712 special attack due to specs and solar power, he is a real powerhouse, able to kill just about everything in 1 or 2 hits, so not many things can switch into him safely if given the chance.
Dragon pulse allows it to come in on banded vish and revenge kill it safely.
Focus Blast is for hopefully predicting ttar on the switch and saving the game from impending doom.
His main issues are stealth rocks and speedy pokemon like dragapult, and that reason is exactly why he is stuck to my team. I seldom have matches where he doesnt provide some kind of breaking.
Sun Sage (Shiftry) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Heat Wave
- Solar Blade
- Sucker Punch
- Growth
Shiftry definitely puts in work in just about every match, being able to kill at least 2 pokemon when predicting correctly.
He is able to kill corviknight on the switch with a bit of chip or can use growth and start sweeping away. Solar blade with a boosted growth under sun allows him to one shot just about anything that doesnt resist it, and offensive pokemon with resists to it like hydreigon also lose roughly 75 percent of their health so nothing is really safe when this thing gets set in safely. Chlorophyll brings him to a speed tier above 500 which allows him to outspeed dragapult, although sucker punch will just about always do the trick. Very strong against many of the current mons in meta, corviknight, bisharp, seismitoad, and pult to name a few.
Vulturous (Mandibuzz) @ Leftovers
Ability: Big Pecks
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Knock Off
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn
Probably the pokemon I struggle the most with but I need her to get my other pokemon in safely.
I use her to gauge dracovish being scarfed or banded, and to u-turn into something safer. She's also a good lead when the enemy has a trapper like dugtrio. Defog is for rocks to keep charizard safe to switch in. Not much else to add about her. She usually just gets sacced to make way for my other pokemon to do work. U-turn synergy with cinderace allows me to bog down hydreigon even after a nasty plot so that I dont get completely destroyed by it getting behind a substitute.
Desert Hare (Cinderace) (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pyro Ball
- Sucker Punch
- U-turn
- Sunny Day
Cinderace is my secondary charizard basically. Pyro ball ohkos a lot of things like clefable, and can do considerably nice work to things like rotom heat and conkeldurr if safely brought in. Sunny day is a nice surprise for when people think they've finally won because they got your torkoal. Court Change is cool and all but if it comes to saccing him for sun or tossing rocks over, I would rather have sun. U-turn hits hydreigon for over half of its health so that's very useful as well.
Tumbleweed (Whimsicott) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 44 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 208 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Growth
A big favorite of mine! Whimsicott here actually has potential to kill just about everything that isnt a steel type!
After one growth, a psychic can safely ensure a kill on toxapex and deals a decent amount to rotom-heat, allowing whimsicott to kill it on the switch if its low enough. Moonblast kills just about everything else besides corviknight and rotom-heat.
Giga drain allows you to heal up to full on seismitoad and ensures a ohko or a switch at the least. Chlorophyll allows whimsicott to reach over 600 speed which allows it to kill any scarfer or speedy pokemon like pult or scarfed hydreigon. Basically get rid of Corviknight and here is your wincon.
Most notable issues for me are sand teams since ttar destroys most of my team, and it having access to rocks definitely doesnt help my cause.
Rain teams I seem to be able to beat at least half of the time because sun is so oppressive to water type attackers.
Any thoughts are welcome!
