Gen V OU Team

Welcome to this RMT. I built this team around an Excadrill, after hearing SO many good things about it.

Lead

Hippo (Hippowdon) @ Leftovers
Sand Stream
Impish
-Earthquake
-Slack Off
-Stealth Rock
-Ice Fang
EV: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

The Hippowdon to set up rocks early on and then to get SS going. He can hold his own with Earthquake and Ice Fang. He's still the same powerhouse he's always been, just in the lead. The EV spread keeps him alive for quite a while and allows him to counter a few threats to the team.

Offense

530.gif

Dentist (Excadrill) @ Air Balloon
Sand Rush
Adamant
Swords Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Return
EVS: 4 HP / 252 Att. / 252 Spe

I get the hype. After a single Swords Dance this little beast's Attack hits 810. His base 88 speed doubles in Sandstorm, which allows him to outspeed pretty much anything unscarfed. Earthquake is Excadrill's primary STAB attack, and it is so powerful after a boost that even Pokemon that resist it aren't completely safe. Rock Slide is used alongside it for neutral threats.

609.gif

Luminyte (Chandelure) @ Choice Scarf
Shadow Tag
Timid
Flamethrower
Hidden Power [Ice]
Shadow Ball
Energy Ball
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

I SWEAR TO GOD IF SOMEONE SAYS THAT SHADOW TAG IS BANNED I WILL FLIP. It's not banned, it's not RELEASED. The set is simple, come in on a choiced fighting type and Calm Mind up to +6. Then just DESTROY EVERYTHING MWAHAHAHA. HP Ice, along with Shadow Ball, gives him great coverage.

The Rest

RotomW.gif

Wash (Rotom-W) @ Leftovers
Levitate
Modest
Evs: 164 HP / 252 SpA / 92 Spe
Hydro Pump
Volt Switch
Hidden Power [Fire]
Toxic

Volt Switch is nice to get out of something I can predict on. The bulk of this Poke gives it a decent run while his moveset covers a lot which makes it a decent sweep. HP Fire helps take down pesky things I might otherwise have trouble with. Toxic is there to take some things down quicker, I can use Toxic on something and then Volt Switch out to something to check/wall it out.

134.gif

Vappy (Vaporeon) @ Leftovers
Bold
Water Absorb
Surf
Toxic
Wish
Protect
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 12 SpD / 8 Spe

This Poke is my stall. The STAB from Surf gives me a plus on damaging on other Pokes. The Wish can heal me and my team. The Protect will let me block some attacks if I need. Toxic is there to get damage while stalling.

227.gif

WAKAFLOCKA (Skarmory) @Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP/164 Sp.DEF/92 SPD
Moveset
Spikes
Roar
Taunt
Brave Bird

Leftovers to recover damage from sandstorm. Spikes and Roar for the obvious reasons. I can set up Rocks and Spikes and Roar around to scout and get some damage. Brave Bird for the STAB. Taunt to break a stall.

So, please rate and leave suggestions. As you may have noticed, I love Leftovers <3 So item suggestions won't hurt!

Hey solid team, It covers quite a bit very well, but there are many improvements that could be made.

Id first like to talk about Chandelure. The set is great but i recommend using a Scarf set, if using Excadrill to sweep is the main idea, Scarf will help alleviate the teams counters and give it an easier shot at sweeping. But if you are really set on that set ur using, Change Sub over Pain Split, Pain Split wont do u any good at +6 boosts, subsitute on the "choiced fighting attack" and proceed to set up as the Sub will protect from faster pokes and will also help with sweeping stall teams.

Mantine and Milotic are by no means bad choices, but I think you could make a better use of 2 bulky waters. Although this is coming from my own personal love of these pokemon. Vaporeon is significantly better than Milotic with a set like: Wish, Protect, Surf and Toxic. I see a lack of power on this team so a Rotom-W could do much better than Mantine as Milotic and Mantine do similar jobs. Rotom-W is great at doing damage and could do much better.

So Good Luck tell me how it goes.

actually shadow tag is banned. it may be unreleased but it has been banned. it is considered uber on chandalure.

Actually, Shadow Tag on any mons is currently legal. ST Chandelure is unreleased at the moment, not banned. And before you reply with ST being broken or something, please note that the current official ban/ubers listing doesn't even include Wobbuffet/Wynaut.

EDIT:
@OP: Team looks solid. Have you considered using ST Chandelure as a method of picking off threats to the rest of the team and/or revenge killing, rather than a sweeper mentality? Like, maybe drop the pain split and CM for a STAB Flamethrower/Fire Blast and Energy Ball to hit Waters who would try to counter-revenge your candle? Just a thought. If you do go down that route, I'd change the EV spread to something like 252 Spd/Sp.A, 4 Hp; and give it a choice scarf to outspeed while revenging.

Updated, I'm thinking of putting Speed EVs into my Forretress just to get the Spikes up quicker and hopefully get up more layers. Would this be a good idea?

As far as I'm aware, all of Forretress's common threats will outspeed it even with 252 EV, 31 IV, +SPD nature on it. So no, I would personally stick to a bulkier version.

That's what I thought, which sucks. I can really only set up one layer of spikes. So I need to switch it out... I need a Roarer/Whirlwinder on my team to get out leads like Tyranitar to get the Rocks damage. Any suggiestions?

Try switching Forretress to something like:

227.gif

Skarmory@Leftovers/Shed Shell
Ability: Keen Eye
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP/164 Sp.DEF/92 SPD
Moveset
Spikes
Roar
Taunt
/Drill Peck/Brave Bird
Drill Peck/Brave Bird/Roost/Toxic

For the choices: Leftovers is the first choice to recover damage from sandstorm, however Shed Shell becomes viable to escape from a Shadow Tag Chandelure or a (much rarer) Magnet Pull Magnezone, however Leftovers is the better choice in general. Keen Eye over Sturdy simply because sandstorm is going to ruin Sturdy on its own. Impish to give it DEF without EV investment; EV investment to give it survivability and utility. Spikes+Roar are on there because.. well, that's what you asked for originally, Taunt is on there to give a means to break a stall but can be switched out with an attack, for the last slot Roost is the best option but it is Gen IV only and leaves you vulnerable to a Taunt if you also picked Taunt, an attack is also viable in the last slot if you took Taunt for your third slot, and finally, Toxic is an option to give utility in the last slot should you have picked an attack in the third slot and don't have access to Roost. As for the attacks, either one will work nicely, your choice of more damage or no recoil (recoil might not be a problem if you have Roost access.)

Start with something like that, hope it helps.

My only big comment about the team that you really need to change is sassy tyranitar, to quite tyranitar. If your runing a mized set you need this to get certain 1HKOs and 2HKOs like a 2HKO against a specially bulky skarmory which you will not get if you run sassy.

Also, 2 bulky waters? Thats kind of overkill to be honest. I think Rotom-W is fine enough. And if you looking for a wisher, many pokemon do that better like Chansey Blissey and Alomola (or whatever its name is). But thats just a comment though, you team might be fine without doing that.

I switched out the Mantine already, I only have 1 bulky water. As for the T-Tar, I'm running it more as a lead Poke than a sweep, so the SpD on it helps it live a hit against an other leading T-Tar or anything that could otherwise OHKO me, so that I can set up.

Try switching Forretress to something like:

Thanks, I know that a LOT of people that like to run a lead T-Tar which would be a pain to take down without entry hazards. My Excadrill would have a chance to sweep it, but if it has bulk it could end badly. So a Roar would just give me extra assurance.

EDIT: Just did the Calcs on a Life Orb'd EQ from Doryuzzu. The chance of OHKO is 108.9% - 129.2%. So the Roar is now an option, but I still want to take out Forretress. He has too much weakness to Fire to be effective as a setup.

So, please rate and leave suggestions. As you may have noticed, I love Leftovers <3 So item suggestions won't hurt!

Changes are in red

Skarmory's a steel type. Sandstorm won't kill it, it will improve it, so sturdy is ma very good option.

Totally blanked on that detail. Yes, go with Sturdy then. Also, Leftovers is still the better choice even without sandstorm damage, so its only a minor detail for set building purposes.

Also, people, stop saying shadow tag is banned. It's not. Nor is going to be as of now. If you don't believe me, show me a link to the PR or similar forum that says otherwise.

EDIT: @AZCorazon: You're changes are altering the play-style of the team. If you read, you would see he wanted a phazer, which Ferrothorn doesn't do. As for your Chandelure changes, HP Ice hits mons that get STAB on its weaknesses harder than HP Fighting does, revenge killers and trappers don't need broad coverage as much as high damage output, and also with Energy Ball on the set, HP Ice gives the same coverage as HP Fighting would for neutral+ sans Heatran. And no, for the last time, Shadow Tag is not banned. Nor is it being banned as of now. The Hippowdon change is a viable alternative, very similar to T-Tar for the purpose the OP is using it for, trade off power and trapping for less weaknesses and more bulk.

I didn't typo ice I need to edit the explanations. On shandera I do not want to risk the accuracy for switching out flamethrower. I think ill agree with hippo I need more bulk on the team. I think ill probably use skarm over ferrothorn.

Regardless, flash fire is good to prevent fire weakness from occurring.

Chandelure is resistant to fire, no weakness happening there. And with 145 base Sp.ATK the boost to fire damage would be pittance compared to the trapping and revenge killing utility of Shadow Tag.
