Gengar @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
Gengar has been rising in viability due to its high Speed and access to Substitute, allowing it to avoid passive damage and weak attacks as well as take advantage of top-tier Pursuit and Sucker Punch users such as Choice Scarf Krookodile and Bisharp, respectively. Near-unresisted STAB and coverage options enable it to offensively pressure several UU threats such as Latias and Togekiss with powerful attacks. This incredible coverage gives Gengar the ability to force many foes out so that it can easily set up Substitute and deal with faster foes that would otherwise heavily damage or OHKO it such as Choice Scarf Hydreigon, Mega Aerodactyl, and Starmie. Its relative fralityfrailty, especially without a Substitute active, means that Gengar appreciates U-turn and Volt Switch users such as Choice Scarf Hydreigon, Rotom-H, and Choice Band Scizor to bring it in so it avoids damage. These Pokemon can also lure in foes that Gengar can easily remove such as Mega Altaria and Cobalion.
