Glorious Inferno

Greetings. Its been quite a while since I created my last RMT, with my random absences and whatnot after the Latias ban. Coming back a few months ago, I dove into the B/W metagame with new Pokemon I despise but some interesting new options to try out. I begun using a very boring Sandstorm team consisting of Tyranitar, Latios, Rankurusu, Doryuuzu, Landlos and Nattorei, which was met with constant weather wars on the ladder. Tired of the boring Sun, Rain and Sandstorm teams that had nearly the same Pokemon every time, I sought out to build something more fit to my style. Post-Salamence ban I ran Hyper Offense to good success, using powerful sweepers like Jolteon, Infernape and Salamence. Thinking back at my roots, I decided to try building a 5th generation Hyper Offense team with the goal of setting up Stealth Rock quickly and keeping the opponent pressured the entire game with my array of powerful attackers, while destroying most walls they bring in. Between me and EspyJoel testing the team, it has been very effective against common teams and playstyles, but unfortunately our luck has been very poor. Regardless, the team done very well for me and I'm looking to present it, see if anyone has a change or two that could make it even better. With that out of the way, I present team Glorious Inferno!

deoxyse.png

Deoxys-S @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Spikes
- Superpower
- Stealth Rock

Why Deoxys-S? A better question would be why not Deoxys-S. He is the perfect lead on an Offensive team, with his blistering speed and ability to set-up hazards and prevent my opponent from setting up their own. Seeing as Stealth Rock bothers Pokemon like Salamence who do switch in often, its great to stop them at the beginning. Common Stealth Rockers also have very few opportunities to set them up on this team, and my pressure often makes it "you set-up Rocks, you lose a Pokemon". Hazards make the team infinitely better, making switching into my Pokemon's already ridiculously powerful moves even harder. Often times on a Sandstorm team, the opposing team will have a U-Turner they will send in first to smack me up and switch-out to Tyranitar, breaking my sash. To counter this common manuever, I often start with Jirachi when they have a Kojondo or Scizor on their team. She's able to swiftly 2HKO Tyranitar as well, hopefully flinching and preventing Rocks from getting placed. Taunt was chosen over Mirror Coat because I'll be leading against Erufuun with Salamence, and Taunt stops boosters who like to stand in the lead position and abuse my lack of powerful attacking move outside of Superpower, which is used to nail a OHKO most of the time on even 252 HP Tyranitar. Deoxys is one of the most important members of the team, and his reliability to get hazards up before any other non-scarved Pokemon makes him an invaluble addition.

gengar.png

Gengar (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Pain Split

Why Gengar? Gengar is a dangerous threat in this metagame, with many teams not preparing to deal with him. He can 2HKO most of OU with his unresisted coverage in Shadow Ball and Focus Blast boosted 30% by Life Orb. Substitute allows me to ease prediction, allowing me to decimate threats like Tyranitar or Nattorei without relying on a single shaky Focus Blast, and Pain Split allows me to heal up against slower enemies, usually allowing me to Pain Split and finish the rest of their health. SubSplit is terrific in this metagame just like last meta. However more importantly, Gengar serves as an offensive spin blocker, allowing me to block the spin attempts of spinning motherfuckers and usually go to Salamence immediately after to dodge Payback, besides Salamence can basically massacre every spinner in existence. Finally, although my team doesn't focus heavily on resistances (although, I do have a decent enough set of them) Gengar provides me with a very useful Fighting- and Ground-type immunities, some of the most common attacking types in the meta. It isn't all fun and games for Gengar though, Focus Blast seems to never hit for me, he's been working terrificly but he really does need to work on his aim.

salamence.png

Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SAtk / 176 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Roost
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake

Why Salamence? Salamence is such a ridiculously powerful wall breaker and sweeper that it was even banned from 4th generation OU. Salamence is extremely important to the team, giving me many of my team's resistances and killing power, hence why I've got Roost up here over Outrage. Salamence has many opportunities to switch-in with Pokemon like Conkledurr around every corner. If they have Latias, I usually fly some Draco Meteors around hoping to catch it, but if I see they have Forretress, Nattorei or Skarmory I usually fling around Fire Blasts until I nail one of them for the clean KO. Earthquake is here for Tyranitar, Heatran, Blaziken and other unfriendly friends. My main problem with Salamence however is his tendancy to draw in Latios after he kills something, which I'm very weak to. Nonetheless, Salamence is an invaluble member of my team and something I can't really see myself replacing, this was basically the first Pokemon I looked to when I first began creating the team.

blaziken.png

Blaziken (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 64 Atk / 192 SAtk / 252 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Hi Jump Kick
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Protect

Why Blaziken? Mixed Blaziken is absolutely astounding in this metagame, beating basically everything except Burungeru. I took this set from PttP's RMT and basically tweaked them to my liking, and this has probably been the most valuble member on the entire team. Hi Jump Kick and Fire Blast give me power on both sides of the spectrum using my exceptional attacking stats, while I stick HP Ice on here for easy kills on Landlos, and most importantly Gliscor. Protect is absolutely vital on this set, allowing me to gain free speed boosts, which come in handy more than you'd think. It allows me to boost up right infront of Pokemon who are threats to my team and faster like Thundurus and brutally massacre them. The amount of teams that are weak to this thing is amazing, and this is usually what I win the game with. One of the best checks to Blaziken, Azumaril, only allows Salamence to have a free switch-in to kill something with Draco Meteor, which is just so much fun. At 3 Speed Boosts, this even outpaces the mighty Doryuuzu, allowing me to defeat it.

jirachi.png

Jirachi @ Expert Belt
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Punch

Why Jirachi? This Jirachi set is absolutely amazing in the current metagame, being able to dismantle a large portion of stall teams almost by itself. From my current playtesting experience, this thing almost always nets a kill from the unpredictability. Even without its awesome surprise value, it still is able to decimate a large amount of the meta including Salamence / Dragonite, Tyranitar, Nattorei, Gliscor, Gyarados, Skarmory and Forretress among others. I usually bluff Scarf near the beginning of a match, and where an opportunity opens up that I can kill something that falls for the bluff (95% of the time) I'm able to nag a swift kill. I also usually throw Ice Punch around a lot to try and hit Landlos and Latios, two Pokemon I really hate and want banned from the tier. Apart from its excellent mixed sweeping potential, Jirachi acts as my steel-type and primary switch-in to many attacks. I previously had Scizor in this spot for its reliable recovery and ability to beat Outragers, but it had no place on an offensive team of this nature. Jirachi has definitely been pulling her weight and has dealt with some unsuspecting opponent's Pokemon I don't really want to deal with later in the match.

azumarill.png

Azumarill (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Huge Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Superpower
- Ice Punch

Why Azumaril? Finally, we have our last Pokemon, the glue of the team. Azumaril was the last Pokemon to be added as I needed a reliable check to dangerous Pokemon such as Excadrill, Landlos, Blaziken, Volcarona, Terakion and Heatran. STAB Aqua Jet priority with Azumaril's ability doubling his attack makes it extremely powerful, especially when boosted by rain. There's nothing more I love than facing an opponent's rain team and having a DNite 2HKOed on the switch-in after rocks by CB Aqua Jet. I really don't like Azumaril having a Choice Band, as it allows Pokemon like Latios and enemy Salamence to come in unscathed, putting me in a bad position. Superpower is tossed on here to deal with Nattoreri (/mumble), while Ice Punch is for Latios, Salamence and Dragonite switchs. Nonetheless, Azumaril is a good Pokemon and gives me reliance on beating Pokemon I hate. I've been considerng Toxic because I really, really hate Burungeru, but it'll likely stay Ice Punch.

Thanks for reading the RMT, I really enjoy using this team despite the absolutely ridiculous amount of hax I get (ASK JOEL!!!!), which speaking of Joel, I would like to thank him for all of his support and help playtesting the team. Espeon gets to live another day!
Hyper Offense I feel is still a great style in BW play that hasn't been fully explored yet, and its certainly capable of hurting a lot of teams.
Thanks again.

Threat list of things that give me trouble.

- WHAT THE FUCK WHY ARE YOU OU?????????????
593.png
-Its kind of annoying but Gengar and Mence do a lot.
642.png
- Really annoying, Blaziken can Protect and kill it though and Azumarill can AJ after some residual damage.
645.png
- Why are you OU? Its kind of annoying it basically just makes me play around it and have Azumarill revenge it.

205.png
- Spin my threats and I destroy your family.

Pretty cool team, but you have a huge weakness to a number of threats. As it stands, Latios pretty much comes in and 2HKOes your entire team quite comfortably. Another issue is Reuniclus, your best bet is to hope you can get Gengar in safely and Shadow Ball, then follow up with an attack from Azumarill or something similar. Currently I think Jirachi is really the team's weak point. You claim it takes on stall almost on its own, but why does it need to do that when you have Gengar, Salamence and Blaziken?

In my mind, your team would benefit much more from a specially defensive Jirachi set. While you do lose a lot of offensive momentum by opting for this set, I do think it would be beneficial in the long run. Specially defensive Jirachi is an astounding switch-in to a plethora of threats -- Latios being the main one. Not only this, but Jirachi also makes a great switch to other dangerous Pokemon to your team, in particular Virizion, who, at the moment, is quite hard for you to stop with Jirachi being your best option.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Careful | Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpDef / 40 Spe
Iron Head / Body Slam / Wish / Fire Punch

With Body Slam and Iron Head, this Jirachi has a decent shot at beating Life Orb variants of Reuniclus. Paralyse it and flinch, hopefully getting enough flinches and full paralyses to beat it. Thunder Wave could be used over Body Slam for the guaranteed paralysis, but Body Slam is useful due to the abundance of Garchomp, Landorus and Excadrill, all who would hate to take a Body Slam and be paralysed. Wish support is actually pretty nice for your team as well. Fire Punch insures you are not complete set-up fodder for Ferrothorn, and if you lose Blaziken Scizor becomes a large issue, so being able to hit it for 4x super-effective damage is great.

One other slight suggestion I would like you to try is Leftovers and Disable on Gengar. You may not know it, but Disable got a significant buff in 5th gen and is now 100% accurate. A ton of sweepers only have the ability to hit Gengar with one attack, and so by using Substitute on the first time they use that attack, then using Disable, allows Gengar to beat a number of threats. For example, both Conkeldurr and Calm Mind Reuniclus only carry one attack that can actually hit Gengar. You are able to use Substitute on the Payback / Psychic and Disable the next turn. From there, both Conkeldurr and Reuniclus are completely and utterly useless against Gengar and you can easily take them down.

Thats all I have to say. Good luck!

Sup Liam, I promised you a rate and here we are! As you've heard from me, this isn't exactly traditional, Stathakis-style hyper offense but more of a very powerful offensive team- either way it gets the job done. I've sort of helped you with the team already (like suggesting Azumarill and stuff) so it looks good, I'll just nitpick some things etc.

First of all Heist suggested some good stuff so I agree with that. SubDisable Gengar is an absolute beast so please consider that, and he helps with your slight Reuniclus weakness that was present before. However I think that a different Jirachi set might work better for you. I agree that you need something that can take a beating from Latios, but I think something that better fits the offensive theme of the team would be excellent. Try something like this:

385.png
@ Leftovers
240 HP / 232 SpA / 36 Spe
Modest
-Wish
-Doom Desire
-Protect / Thunder Wave / Body Slam
-U turn / Thunder Wave / Body Slam

Yes copy and pasted from the Jirachi qc. Anyways this is a pretty cool set, Doom Desire is pretty underrated in terms of power and people tend not to understand the mechanics of it. It actually got boosted this generation to 100 accuracy and 140 power! It also works on the special attack and defense stats at the time IT WAS USED, so your opponent can't just switch in a Blissey to take the hit. Wish + Protect is obviously useful for keeping yourself alive, and it can help you heal your team mates- some appreciate it, like Salamence or Blaziken or Azumarill. U turn is good for switching out and giving the wish to somebody, or for just maintaing offensive pressure and forcing hazards damage. However I could see where you might want the paralysis as it certainly comes in handy, so you can definitely use a paralysis move over Protect or U turn (probably U turn). Nice mix between maintaining an offensive niche and wall breaking.

And just another quick thing, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that having deoxys in the #1 slot is bad for team preview. Try "leading" with Azumarill- azumarill will prompt defensive mons like Latias, Nattorei or Skarmory to lead 9which deoxys can exploit) while also keeping Tyranitar away (who can break your sash with sandstream).

All in all a good team, didn't leave much for the raters really! Anyways team tito is a fatty! is best, Canada sucks yada yada yada I'll see you on PO. Hope this helps.

EDIT: BTW your formatting hurts my eyes, you should bold the sets not the comments you fool!

Thanks for the comments, guys! I am currently testing both Jirachi sets along with the SubDisable Gengar set to good success, and they'll likely be added to the lineup. ^_^
