—An XY OU Team—

Welcome to the team known as God[dess] of War. The team was inspired by the combo of Scolipede and Gardevoir, two of my favorite pokemon and I hope you enjoy it. I've done some testing but my hesitant mind and I have trouble making beneficial changes to the team. I played BW2 OU quite often, but I'm fairly new to XY OU, so I'd appreciate any advice at all. Without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the team!
Teambuilding Process
Gardevoir has been one of my favorite pokemon since Gen III, and I've gotten bored using the typical pokemon of OU, so I decided to switch it up and enjoy the playing the game with my favorite pokemon. When I saw that she received a Mega Evolution I was absolutely ecstatic. It improved her speed, special defense, and special attack, along with blessing that Gen VI has given her in the form of her retyping as a part fairy type. Mono-Psychic is an absolutely terrible defensive typing and her fairy typing and attacks has given her an immunity to Dragon type moves, neutrality to Pursuit, as well as giving her a new weapon to fight back against Dark types. Overall Gardevoir is an underrated threat that once its minor flaws are fixed, she can completely wreck your team.
Gardevoir's glaring weaknesses lie in her middling speed, especially before Mega-Evolving, and her susceptibility to priority attacks due to her frail physical defense stat (and physical moves in general). So I thought of another one of my favorite pokemon and called upon his help, Scolipede. Scolipede has the ability to pass Iron Defense Boosts AND Speed Boosts to Gardevoir, everything that she's ever wanted.
After I selected the Main Combo of the team, I looked to support them. Despite the two working well strategically, the addition of a Bug type, naturally brought some unwanted weaknesses to the team. With Steel types being very present in this metagame, I decided to seek one out in the form of Bisharp. He offeres many useful resistances and a way to trap ghosts and the damned, possessed sword with Pursuit.
The next pokemon I wasn't really found of until I found a moveset that I absolutely love. I used it on a different team prior to this one and found much success with it. That beast, is the mischevious SubDisable Gengar.
The last two slots have changed often, because of the pressure that these 4 pokemon place on them, as each of them needed synergy and a little more support. I searched for hazard control, hazards of my own, and both had to have unique resistances to cover for the glaring weaknesses of the team so far. I tried excadrill in this next slot because of his ability to spin and set up SR, but the additional fire weakness was not helping, and I've never really been happy with Excadrill period; he just never works for me. So I switched to one of the best physical walls in the game—Gliscor.
The last slot was a toughie, not even gonna lie. I needed both a water resistance and a fire resistance. So I looked in the direction of Dragons, but none of the popular ones appealed to me. So I looked at some water types and through a different prespective I ended up finding Kingdra to fill my needs(yes I know he's Dragon as well but he didn't seem like the best dragon out there).
After a suggestion from a rater, I have decided to change Gliscor to Landorus-T. Intimidate allows for Lando to come in on Physical attackers and have an extra cushion. He also handles Charizard X better, which poses a serious threat to my team. Lando plays a very similar role to Gliscor, but fulfills it much better.

Knight (Landorus-Therian) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
After a suggestion by a rater, I've switched this spot to Landorus-T. He still has the ability to set up SR, which is very helpful. Compared to Gliscor, he has lower defense but that is mitigated by Intimidate. And in every other category he pretty much outdoes Gliscor (except speed). Lando carries the famous EdgeQuake Combo giving him stellar coverage. STAB EQ coming off of a fully EV invested, positive attack nature, 145 base attack is nothing to scoff at. U-turn is for momentum and some nice damage, and due to Lando's mediocre speed, he will typically go second and he'll let the next poke coming in after U-Turn come in safe, which is a great bonus. Overall, Landorus functions as a bulky pivot that I can use in a myriad of ways. One thing that Landorus does amazingly is countering Charizard X, which gave my team huge problems. Overall, Landorus is an extremely helpful pokemon that was a smart add to the team.
Ice: Bisharp
Water: Kingdra

Ice: Bisharp
Water: Kingdra

Rook (Kingdra) (M) @ Scope Lens
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Focus Energy
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
- Flash Cannon
Firstly this guy deserves the MVP award on my team because he has more than exceeded my expectations. Kingdra might seem oddly placed on a team without Drizzle or having Kingdra carry Rain Dance, but it hardly matters. I ran across this set and decided to give it a test, and it completely changed the dynamic of my team. With the change to Crit Mechanics, this set is viable. Kingdra carries Sniper which boosts the power of a Critical Hit whenever one occurs. Whenever a pokemon reaches a +3 stage for Crits, they happen 100% of the time. Scope Lens gives Kingdra a +1 status, and the move Focus Energy adds +2 to it, therefore giving it a total of +3; now a crit happens 100% of the time, which is the whole idea of this set. Crits ignore stat raises and drops of both users, which is even more of a bonus. Because of this, Kingdra can spam 195 Base Power Draco Meteors left and right, OHKOing everything in sight. Hydro Pump is there for the obvious secondary STAB of choice and widens Kingdra's coverage. Kingdra being a dragon is a magnet for Fairies, which is where Flash Cannon comes in. Not many people know Kingdra can have this move, and it catches them completely off guard, leaving Kingdra to contintually spam more Meteors. This set is mainly for the surprise factor, as many opponents expect Rain Dance/Swift Swim. He has a slightly hard time setting up, but once he does, he guarentees 2 KOs at minimum. I typically use him in the beginning because of his ability to dismantle and break a team right from the beginning.
Type Synergy:
Dragon: Bisharp, Gardevoir
Fairy: Scolipede

Pawn (Scolipede) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Defense
- Protect
- Baton Pass
Gardevoir's main supporter. Gardevoir has a problem with, speed, priority and physical moves in general, which is where Scolipede comes in. He can Baton Pass Iron Defense and Speed Boosts to Gardevoir to help her sweep the other team. The nice thing about Scolipede is that he isn't solely supporting Gardevoir. If she ends up dying early on, he can pass his speed boosts to Kingdra or even Bisharp. Scolipede even appreciates the Iron Defense boosts for himself as well. Protect is there for Scolipede to get a guarenteed Speed Boost and outspeed faster threats the next turn. Megahorn is there for offensive presence and prevents Scolipede from being Taunt bait. It hits fairly hard without any investment at all, which is pretty cool. The EVs are taken from the bulky Scolipede set and gives Scolipede more longevity.
Type Synergy:
Flying: Bisharp
Fire: Kingdra
Rock: Bisharp
Psychic: Bisharp, Gardevoir

Bishop (Bisharp) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
To be honest, Bisharp was chosen to be on my team because of his cool factor and has always been a favorite of mine, and now that Gen VI has given him the stardom that he has deserved, I decided to put him on my team. Defiant discourages the use of Defog, which can clear the field of the SR that Landorus-T set up. It's also useful for Sticky Web. Sucker Punch gives Bisharp a little speed to compete with and is great STAB. Knock off is a wonderful utility move this Gen and Bisharp's STAB helps out even more. Pursuit is there to trap Ghosts that could potentially give this team trouble (looking at you Aegislash) and psychics. Iron Head gives Bisharp another solid STAB and occassionally is used to take out Fairy switch ins. Bisharp really loves Passes from Scolipede to improve his average speed to respectable levels. He also has good synergy with Gardevoir, covering all of her weaknesses while she reciprocates with a Double Resist to Bisharp's Double Weakness to Fighting. Bisharp covers the Physical Spectrum while Gardevoir can cover the Special Side, making for a nice little duo.
Type Synergy:
Fighting: Landorus-T, Gardevoir, Gengar, Scolipede
Fire: Kingdra
Ground: Landorus-T, Gengar

King (Gengar) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave

My little mischevious demon. He brings along a useful Ground immunity that any team is glad to have. I used to run SubDisable, but it was brought to my attention that Gengar would be more effective if I ran a different set. I kept complaining about Skarmory and its ability to shit all over this team, but Thunderbolt is a solution to the problem, Life Orb only adding more power to it. Shadow Ball is a solid STAB choice that is basically a stable on any Gengar set. Sludge Wave is used on Gengar because my team has a hard time in dealing with them even though I have Flash Cannon on Kingdra and Iron Head on Bisharp. They both take alot of damage from Fairy type moves, so I needed something else to compensate for this. Destiny Bond is a last ditch effort on Gengar to take down another pokemon with him specifically, Chairzard Y which is another threat to my team. Charizard X typically boosts his speed and will outspeed Gengar anyway so it isn't as effective on him (but I have Landorus-T for Charizard X).
Type Synergy:
Dark: Bisharp
Ghost: Bisharp
Psychic: Bisharp, Gardevoir

Queen (Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 144 Def / 252 SAtk / 112 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Psyshock
The basis of the entire team, and the inspiration for the name (Gardevoir... God of War. Except she's a girl. Haha. lame—I know) On offense, she really appreciates SR set up by Gliscor and the BPs from Scolipede. She can function decently without Scolipede's support, but she truly shines with it. Her poor defense stat becomes respectable, and is now sturdy on both ends of the spectrum. Increased speed is a blessing as well. The boosting doesn't end there either; Gardevoir can use Calm Mind to Boost her Special Stats as well, making her a well-rounded offensive and defensive powerhouse. Moonblast is a nice STAB move that is used to counter Dark types that try to take on Gardevoir and gives her a way to hit the Dragons she switches into often. Shadow Ball is a great move, considering there is only 1 type that resists it. Psyshock is just another generic STAB move used to get around Special Tanks.
Type Synergy:
Poison: Bisharp, Scolipede, Gengar, Landorus-T
Ghost: Bisharp
Steel: Bisharp, Kingdra
Weaknesses:
- This team struggles with Fire types, which isn't good considering the #1 pokemon in the tier has 19% usage and is extremely good and unpredictable, being able to Mega Evolve into two very different pokemon. I've noticed that I struggle more with Charizard Y mainly because of Solarbeam and the boost in Fire type moves because of Drought.
- Has a difficult time with Prankster users. Isn’t very good at handling support Pokemon, maybe I could fit taunt in somewhere?
- Has a problem opening the battle. Most of the time I know I will loose within the first couple turns, but once I get past that awkward stage, I have a pretty good chance of winning.
- Going off of the lack of a Fire move, Skarmory has been a big problem for me. SR doesn't hurt me so much as Spikes do, and its ability to whirlwind stuff out before I get boost to get strong enough to beat it is highly annoying
I'm open to switching any member of my team except for Gardevoir and Scolipede, since they are the core of the team. Kingdra will require a little more convincing for me to switch him, because I've seen how successful he is in battle, but if there is something better, I'll consider it. Any of the others are fair game. Of them all, Bisharp and Gengar are especially the ones that haven't really carried their weight.
Also, I'm really missing a strong fire move on this team and I don't know which pokemon I should fit it onto.I've noticed that Kingdra just isn't enough to carry the Fire resistance on my team which is another reason I'm looking to replace a couple pokes. The candidates that seem to be most likely to replace Bisharp are Greninja (Dark), Milotic (Competitive similar to Defiant), Rotom-W (Levitate like Gengar). For Gengar I have Aegislash in mind, but I didn't really have much luck with Aegi, so if I could get some direction here that would be great
Lastly, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read my RMT and I really appreciate feedback so if you could take extra time to better my team. I've included a few replays so that you can see exactly how I personally use this team and can also critique through those as well. Thank you once again!
Oh, and if you'd like to see the team how I play it, I'll leave some replays below. Check those out too!
