Godly Gift is a metagame where Pokemon inherit stats from the "God" on their team; the "God" is the Pokemon tiered as Uber/AG, otherwise the Pokemon in the first slot (HP slot) is the Pokemon who distributes its base stats. This thread is for spreading resources and discussion for past generations of Godly Gift.

:ss/zamazenta-crowned: SS Godly Gift :ss/moltres-galar:

Important mechanical changes:
  • Most recovery moves have 16 PP instead of 8 PP.
  • Hail exists instead of Snow, deals 1/16 damage to non-Ice-types, and doesn't boost the Defense of Ice-types by 1.5x.
  • Dauntless Shield triggers on every switch instead of once per battle.
  • Protean and Libero activate on every move.
  • Grassy Glide has 70 Base Power.
  • Wicked Blow has 80 Base Power.
  • Glacial Lance has 130 Base Power.

Remember that this is the Viability Ranking for Gods, NOT Followers.

The ranking is based on:
  1. How good the stats are that the God Pokemon gives. This affects your team synergy and capabilities.
  2. How well the God Pokemon performs by itself in general.
Point #1 is more valuable than #2, though #2 is still a pretty big factor when deciding upon a God Pokemon's ranking.

Also since the number of potential gods is not high, there will be no subranks like A+ or A-. There will be only S, A, B, C, D, and Ubers that you shouldn't use as ranks. Each rank is listed alphabetically.

*Note: Stats to not donate are ordered in decreasing viability.

:gs/snorlax: :gs/mewtwo: :gs/ho-oh: :gs/lugia:

While GSC Godly Gift might sound like a very obscure metagame, I believe it has the potential to be an interesting, diverse and very enjoyable format. From the games I played and teams I built, I felt like this metagame still feels a lot like GSC, to which GG add very interesting dynamics. For example, the lack of team preview, which hides which stat each pokemon receives, is far from overwhelming, considering the bulk and low power level of the tier, as you won’t be punished harshly for guessing something wrong - however you still can make very good guesses about the remaining unrevealed Pokemon if you can figure out what stats the already revealed Pokemon inherited, and be rewarded for doing so. Even though you don't have a big pool of gods to choose from, I believe that the stats they give you still give you a lot of flexibility in the builder, and I'm sure there is a lot that can be done in this metagame.

Unfortunately, the Godly Gift mod on PS currently seem to follow the old definition of the OM in gen2 - I do not know if this is intended, but I personally hope it is not meant to be this way, especially for a metagame that wasn’t played much at all before the Godly Gift rework. This would mostly matter for Snorlax, which is broken as a receiver, but would be an important part of the metagame as a god, as I believe it can enable a very wide array of different teams (it’s still gsc snorlax lol), and making Mewtwo offense teams much more manageable by forcing them to take account of snorlax.

Same clauses than GSC OU, including the TrapPass Clause.

Banned Pokemon:
Blissey, Chansey

Gods:
Celebi, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Mew, Mewtwo, Snorlax

Personal watchlist:
:marowak: Marowak
:shuckle: Shuckle (Especially with Snorlax HP - still has to see if it holds in practice but curse rollout unironically seems atrocious to take down)

Some teams or ideas

I mostly built mewtwo offenses and lax stalls, but I believe lax offenses and various ho-oh and lugia teams have the potential to be good and should be explored. Maybe something with celebi and mew is possible? I doubt but who knows. Shuckle god (or any other unrestricted gods) might be funny too. I am writing this section not only to provide teams, but also potential ideas to explore or just providing example of things that should be prepared for. Obviously don’t expect these teams to be optimized, as the metagame is still pretty much non-explored - I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up being bad lol.

Two mewtwo offenses
The idea behind theses is simple: mewtwo pass big offensive stats to threatening stuff, and is a threat on its own. I think you want the HP slot to be Cloyster, as opposing 130 speed marowaks can be very threatening, and Cloyster is just a good spike lead in general. You also have better things to fit in other stats. You probably want a Raikou somewhere as well, as your Zapdos answer. Aside from these you probably can go whatever abusers you think are good in the attack, special attack and speed slots.

(Click the sprites to get the pastes)
:cloyster: :misdreavus: :raikou: :zapdos: :mewtwo: :marowak:
Tbh gengar is probably better than missy here

:cloyster: :nidoking: :mewtwo: :zapdos: :raikou: :vaporeon:

Snorlax stalls (keep in mind snorlax god doesn’t work yet)
There probably is a lot of different combinations you can try: here I mostly was focusing on trying to fit spdef Protect Forre which I think is a generally very good mon, which kinda forces Golem speed slot (I guess you could try tentacruel in atk/hp?) - which is why those teams look the same, but I want to make clear that they really don’t have to: you probably are very free in the builder, just don’t forget to include a spinner, a sturdy Zapdos check (as Snorlax alone is not enough Zapdos counterplay on stall in general) and ways to deal with opposing snorlaxes. In general there is probably a shitton of things you can do with the big hp and spdef slots Snorlax is giving to you.

Some other thoughts and ideas
:ho-oh:
The spdef slot is probably going to be a Zapdos check, and if not you will most likely have to run Raikou. I think both offense and stall are feasible with Ho-Oh, especially considering that this high attack stat can be used to great effect by Gengar, Nidoking or even drill peck Zapdos, while offensive Pokemon in general enjoy the bulk Ho-Oh gives to them.

Here is a ho-oh offense I built:

:cloyster: :nidoking: :gengar: :raikou: :steelix: :ho-oh:
I still went Raikou as Steelix being your only Zapdos check might not be ideal as it has to explode to hit it.

:snorlax: (But offense)
Probably going to follow this kind of structure:

:cloyster: :unown: :snorlax: :unown: :Zapdos: :unown:

Cloyster in the HP slot because Marowak is probably a pain in the ass. I have to mention that a noticeable problem with Snorlax in the builder is that it gives you three shit stats to work with. It's still lax however, and you probably can run whatever set in there.

:lugia:
I imagine this would be much more stall oriented than ho-oh, although you probably could make some offensive use of that great speed stat. I imagine the spdef slot can be a zapdos check, or you’ll have to run Raikou. Not much other thoughts about it.

:celebi:
A god that checks Zapdos I guess. I don’t know if this is worth using, although on stall it is not giving any bad stats so it might make it a cool option over lax? I’m also wondering if an argument could be made to make this pokemon a receiver instead of a god.

:mew:
Idk. Use mewtwo I guess. Maybe there is something it can pull off that mewtwo cannot thanks to its movepool, but I doubt.
