Good Computer Recording Systems?

So I want to do a let's play on the computer, and I'm trying to find a good, free computer recording system out there..... Does anybody know of one that works well, and is reliable?

Fraps will give you some dips in performance and it's not free.

Dxtory is only good if you're willing to pay. Otherwise it generates watermarks on every video and spams you with the license purchase site. It's also not ideal for beginners.

MSI Afterburner is the best.

I use CamStudio. It takes a bit of fine tuning to get it to work, but hey, it's free. Other people apparently had problems with it recording after a while, but it's always worked well for me, and my computer is crap.

Yeah, Camtasia has served me well in doing
VGC battles. They're choppy on my screen but it's probably due to my shitty graphics card. They should look fine for you, I tried one of them on my phone and it looked great. The quality isn't the best, but that is completely adjustable in camstasia. You have to decide for yourself which filters you will use in desmume and the recording quality for camtasia, but it's a good hunk of software. It's easy to record audio over, as you can tell by the music I added to both.

edit: oh yeah, it's free ^_^

Desmume has inbuilt AVI recording which is of much surior quality than any screen capture software out there..

just saying.

Heh, I never used it because it screwed up my performance big time. I realize in retrospect that it was probably my graphics card :-/

edit: which goes to show, to the OP, that if you're doing let's play on GB/Adv/DS games, all of the emulators have AVI capabilities. You can use VBA to play GB games too so the same rules apply.

lol I run on mine without any dedicated GFX card (onboard is intel shit) and it plays on 100% just fine.

That and plus the 0.9.9 release practically triple boosted the speed to give it the VBA kinda vibe. It's that fast now.

People get CamStudio and Camtasia Studio mixed up all the time, even though in reality they're completely different. The former is free, for example. Just a warning to people trying to talk about them.

What about the free version of fraps? Is that a good one?

No, unless you plan on recording everything in 30 second chunks.
