Goodstuff, take 2!

Hello everyone! This is my second take on my VGC team, I hope this one works a lot better.

rotom-wash.png

Rotom W @ Sitrus
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 SpAtk / 4 SpD
Modest (+ SpAtk, -Atk)
Thunder Wave
Thunder or maybe something else?
Hydro Pump
Volt Switch

This guy is what led me to make the rest of the team. He's full of win and bulky, which is a statistic I like, frail attackers always seem to upset me. He is basically put in every match-up no matter what, Rotom-W is the star of the team. Most of the team can work around having Rotom-W in the field, especially Metagross with Earthquake support to allow free hits without Rotom getting hurt. Thunder Wave has proven to be extremely useful in hindering many big threats that come along the way, while Volt Switch gives me good versatility in what I can use if something is too threatening, even for Rotom-W.

Poke376.png

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant (+ Atk, - SpAtk)
Bullet Punch
Zen Headbutt
Meteor Mash
Earthquake

Meet the tank, the big boy, whatever you want to call him, he is super slow but can pack a powerful punch! Having it made in the shade against sand or Trick Room teams, he either becomes the fastest guy on the field or invulnerable to sandstorms nasty effects. Although without Ice Punch, Earthquake proves to be useful with Rotom-W and possibly other team members. Metagross greatly supports Volcarona covering it's rock weakness with priority Bullet Punch.

637_volcarona_front_norm.png

Volcarona @ Focus Sash
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 SpD
Timid (+ Spd - Atk)
Heat Wave
Bug Buzz
Rage Powder
Protect

Yet another bulky pokemon in the team. This big bug is lethal with Heat Wave and Bug Buzz, not to mention Rage Powder. Rage Powder is to be used to redirect priority moves and possibly burn the attacker with Flame Body. Heat Wave because it's overall amazing and hits both opposing pokemon. Rotom can also shoot down Water, Rock and Flying types, all of Volcarona's weakness'.

Tyranitar_HGSS.png

Tyranitar @ ???
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpDef
Adamant (+ Atk, - SpAtk)
Rock Slide
Crunch
Low Kick (?)
Protect

I love this guy, he is all around another tank like Metagross. He gets support from opposing Trick Rooms. Metagross also becomes vital when he is in battle because of his Steel typing, putting on the field 2 bulky sweepers to very intimidating. The best part? He can stop weather teams in their tracks and have Gastrodon come in and not get hurt by Sandstorm.

gastrodon-east.png

Gastrodon @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Protect

ah yes! Another bulky pokemon for my team! Gastrodon, master of all, can switch into any water move to absorb it and then start Scalding. Becoming and excellent switch-in pokemon, it saves Volcarona and Tyranitar. Ice Beam can be used to hit all the pesky dragon types that are floating around the metagame and Earth Power against Metagross' or Tyranitars on the opposing team. Truly, Gastrodon is an amazing pokemon and I love it for it's awesome movepool and Storm Drain ability.

091.png

Cloyster @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Explosion
- Shell Smash

The final piece, and a personal favorite. He is used as a switch into Sun. With Skill Link, I can use Rock Blast to it's full extent and take down most Sun pokemon (I'll need to catch up on the meta). Other than sporting Skill Link, an ability than I love, it's bulky (although, lacking in SpDef) but with it's 252 Spd with a base 70, it'd be at a decently paced speed. Explosion is there just for an ultimatum, when I have no choice but to explode on everyone.

What do you think? I'm grateful for any advice given for my team. Thanks in advance for any advice given on how to improve my team.

The Rules said:
2. Do not post incomplete teams. If you are smart enough to pick five Pokemon, you can easily pick another one. If you are smart enough to pick nine, you can easily cut that down to six. Make sure to include natures, EV spreads and items. If you are unsure of your selections, make a note of this or simply add a question mark after them so team raters can help you focus on perceived problems first.

Please do not post incomplete teams and read the RMT Rules before posting. PM me with changes and this thread will get unlocked.

Thunder Wave
Thunder or maybe something else?
Hydro Pump
Volt Switch

Standard, cut out Volt Switch for Protect since it's bulky. You need as much Protect on your team as necessary. Thunderbolt > Thunder, since the weather changes a lot and Thunderbolt has better accuracy.

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant (+ Atk, - SpAtk)
Bullet Punch
Zen Headbutt
Meteor Mash
Earthquake

You really need to squeeze protect on this guy. Many things can harm this thing without protect. Zen Headbutt or EQ can be cut out for protect. Also, have you ever taken into consideration of running Iron Head over Meteor Mash? Iron head may be difficult to get, but is a great alternative over MM due to it's opportunity to get off para/flinch. You could try a spread of 244 HP l 252 Atk l 12 Speed to outspeed more Metagross or try 236 HP l 252 atk l 20 speed for more.

637_volcarona_front_norm.png

Volcarona @ Focus Sash
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 SpD
Timid (+ Spd - Atk)
Heat Wave
Bug Buzz
Rage Powder
Protect

Really standard Volcarona. To be honest, Focus Sash isn't really a reliable item. Tyranitar will break it's use with sand stream damage and it will be useless. A better item than sash is lum berry or fire gem. If you choose to use lum berry, replace rage powder for quiver dance, if you choose fire gem, try to squeeze overheat on there so you can OHKO the 3 most common threats in VGC 2012: Hitmontop, Zapdos, and Metagross.

Tyranitar_HGSS.png

Tyranitar @ ???
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpDef
Adamant (+ Atk, - SpAtk)
Rock Slide
Crunch
Low Kick (?)
Protect

Everything on this Tyranitar is perfectly standard, the only thing I see is that you need an item. I find Focus sash and chople berry to be really useless unless use at the right time of the game, so Dark Gem is great for that STAB Crunch boost to hurt Cress, another common threat in VGC.

I love this guy, he is all around another tank like Metagross. He gets support from opposing Trick Rooms. Metagross also becomes vital when he is in battle because of his Steel typing, putting on the field 2 bulky sweepers to very intimidating. The best part? gastrodon-east.png

Gastrodon @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Protect

One thing that really makes me frown upon this is that this can either hurt or help a team. It can't really take hits will and gets 2KOed by a lot of threats. You could fit a recover somewhere, replace scald for muddy water, or change the EVs around...really up to you.

Cloyster @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Explosion
- Shell Smash

lol, why do you have shell smash on a scarf Cloyster? That's the only thing I see wrong about this set. Replace it with something else.

Comments are in the bold. Good luck with your team! Are you coming to nats?

Ah, thank you for commenting! I appreciate what you've done. I'm trying to build half of this team up for a VGC in June/July (29th to 1st) I think it's nationals...

I'll make the necessary changes, and about the Cloyster, I took another moveset from somebody else team, but then I changed it to a Shell Smash moveset. I forgot to change the hold item too -_-

Yeah, June 29th-July 1st is nationals.

Anyways, I hope that helped!
