slug dragon is out for blood

[OVERVIEW]

Despite a fall from grace following the ban of Tangela, Goomy still possesses a few redeeming qualities that grant it a small niche in the ORAS LC metagame. Goomy has good Special Attack and Special Defense stats and is the only Pokemon in Little Cup with access to Gooey; this is an especially nice ability in Little Cup due to an increased emphasis on Speed tiers. Goomy also has access to Sap Sipper, which lets it take on threats such as Snivy and Bellsprout with ease. It is also one of the very few defensive Dragon-type Pokemon in Little Cup, granting it key resistances to Fire, Water, and Grass. However, there is certainly a reason that Goomy was swept under the rug following Tangela's departure. Poor overall base stats keep Goomy from really shining, and its lackluster Defense holds it back from making full use of Gooey. Goomy is unable to hit very hard off of its poor base 55 Special Attack and thus grants many sweepers the opportunity to set up against it. Goomy also lacks any reliable recovery moves, forcing it to rely on Rest to consistently perform well defensively. Finally, the presence of powerful Fairy-types such as Spritzee on many teams often makes Goomy a liability.

[SET]
name: Gooey Pivot
move 1: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
move 2: Sludge Wave / Hidden Power Fighting
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
item: Eviolite
ability: Gooey
nature: Bold
evs: 76 HP / 236 Def / 156 SpD / 36 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Goomy's Draco Meteor is so powerful that two Draco Meteors will always outdamage two Dragon Pulses, even with the Special Attack drop. However, Dragon Pulse can be used over it if you foresee staying in on foes for more than two attacks. The second slot is up to you, and is selected based on what you don't want to switch in on Goomy: Sludge Wave hits incoming Fairy-types, whereas Hidden Power Fighting hits Steel-types such as Pawniard. Rest provides the recovery necessary to prolong Goomy's defensive utility. Sleep Talk keeps Goomy from being total setup bait during the two turns of sleep from Rest. However, Goomy is still setup bait for the most part due to its weak attacks and its reliance on picking the correct attacking option to do any meaningful damage.

Set Details
========

The listed EV spread and a Bold nature maximize Goomy's Defense and bolster its Special Defense, giving it a spread of 22 / 14 / 16 before Eviolite. The extra EVs are put into Speed, as it is the only remaining stat that can be raised with 36 EVs. However, if you choose to use Hidden Power Fighting, you will have to forgo the Speed EVs with a spread of 76 HP / 240 Def / 160 SpD to maintain the same defensive stats. Eviolite raises Goomy's defenses and is preferred over Berry Juice, as Goomy both needs the increased defenses Eviolite provides to check threats such as Chinchou and already has access to Rest. It is possible to move the 76 HP EVs into Special Attack, then notably scoring a 2HKO on Spritzee with Sludge Wave. However, Goomy is then 3HKOed by attacks such as Timburr's Drain Punch and can no longer beat Snivy without Sap Sipper.

Usage Tips
========

Goomy needs to be at high health to consistently stomach the physical attacks it needs to take to activate Gooey. This entails using Rest often. Goomy can also check special attackers such as Chinchou to an extent due to its naturally high Special Defense and its Dragon typing. It is usually enough for Goomy to switch in, attack once, Rest, and then switch out. Gooey is its main niche and should be used in a pivoting fashion to benefit other slower, more powerful attackers.

Team Options
========

It's a good idea to pair Goomy with a bulky physical wall to pivot into after activating Gooey. Ponyta works well in this role, and it can help get around the Fairy-, Steel-, and Ice-types that trouble Goomy. Slow, bulky attackers such as Pancham and Skrelp appreciate the Gooey support Goomy provides; Pancham has the added benefit of beating Steel-types and luring Fairy-types with Gunk Shot, whereas Skrelp beats Fairy-types and lures Steel-types with Hidden Power Fire. Steel-types cover all of Goomy's weaknesses, whereas Goomy does well against Fire- and Fighting-type Pokemon. Magnemite is particularly good in tandem with Goomy, as it can trap and remove Steel-type Pokemon via Magnet Pull, allowing Goomy to run Sludge Wave without issue.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Goomy also has access to Sap Sipper, which can be used in place of Gooey if your team is weak to Pokemon such as Snivy; however, this removes Goomy's most important niche. Goomy can use Hidden Power Fire to lure Ferroseed, but it will not OHKO, and that moveslot is better filled by the two options already presented. With access to Hydration and Rain Dance, Goomy can forgo Sleep Talk to work as a manual rain setter on a rain team. Goomy has a decent Attack stat and can make use of physical attacks such as Outrage and Iron Tail in conjunction with Sap Sipper, but it is heavily outclassed by other more powerful attackers.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Even with Sludge Wave for coverage, Goomy struggles to deal with bulky Fairies, such as Spritzee and Snubbull, that can hit it hard with super effective STAB attacks. Note, however, that Sludge Wave is a guaranteed OHKO on Cottonee if Stealth Rock is up.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types have little difficulty coming in on Goomy even if it runs Hidden Power Fighting. Pawniard is especially threatening, as its ability, Defiant, actually grants it an Attack boost when Gooey activates.

**Regenerator**: Goomy's damage output is pretty low; as such, Pokemon such as Mienfoo and Foongus can easily take a Draco Meteor then switch out and heal off the damage via Regenerator.

**Bulky Pokemon**: Once again, Goomy lacks the power to break through bulky Pokemon such as Porygon that easily stomach anything Goomy can hit them with.

**Setup Sweepers**: Goomy's low damage output lets it down once again, leaving it as setup bait for many notable setup sweepers, such as Shell Smash Omanyte and Swords Dance Fletchling.

mention the alternate spread in set details
thanks a bunch!

I think this is ready for QC, I had a tough time on Checks and Counters - mostly names and such - and would really appreciate input there especially

Moves
- Ideally, HP Fighting needs to catch Pawn on the switch, since Pawn can activate its own Defiant with Gooey (and deal heavy damage with Knock Off of course)
- Probably worth noting that even with Sleep Talk, Goomy is still setup bait for a lot of stuff since it's weak and it relies on picking the correct attacking option to do any meaningful damage.

Set Details
- As another alternate spread, you can shift the 76 HP EVs into SpA and run Sludge Wave over Sludge Bomb; this secures the 2HKO on Spritzee while still retaining most of its bulk. Goomy outspeeds Spritzee, might as well take advantage of that.

Other Options
- Counter can get a surprise KO on some strong physical attackers.

Checks and Counters
- Add mons with Regenerator; Mienfoo, Foongus, and Slowpoke can all tank Draco Meteor just fine and chip away at Goomy's health, then pivot out to a teammate to finish it off or set up on it, while restoring most of the damage done with Regenerator.
- Add Porygon, it tanks anything Goomy throws at it and recovers off the damage without a second thought, threatens back with Ice Beam.
- There could also be a broader mention of bulky Pokemon in general. Playing around Goomy isn't all that difficult due to its weak attacks.
- Add setup sweepers. Goomy is weak (especially after a SpA drop from Draco Meteor), and is thus setup bait for a ton of setup sweepers. Pick your faves and mention them; they probably beat Goomy lol.

Team Options:

You mention Pancham for its ability to capitalize on Gooey's slowing effect, and I think you should also mention Skrelp. Whereas Pancham beats Steels and lures Fairies, Skrelp beats Fairies and lures Steels with HP Fire, while also having the same Speed and power as Pancham with similar bulk.

Checks and Counters:

In the Fairy-types section, you mention Sludge Bomb when the actual move is Sludge Wave.

This is well written. Try and put more emphasis on Sap Sipper, as it's a viable alternative to Gooey that allows you to staunch most of the Grass-types in the tier; not just Snivy, but Foongus and Bellsprout too.

I put it into the overview, I think that works

Writing up soon!

While the Tangela stuff is nice, it's pretty unnecessary and we try to make these as short and concise as possible, so I think you should remove it.

Moves: Picking Sludge Wave leaves you completely walled by Steels and picking HP Fighting leaves you completely walled by fairies, a good thing to note.

Set Details:
"Eviolite is used to raise Goomy's defenses. Berry Juice is not as useful as Eviolite for Goomy, as it already has recovery in Rest.Eviolite is used to raise Goomy's defenses. Berry Juice is not as useful as Eviolite for Goomy, as it already has recovery in Rest."

These things are super obvious are don't need to be here

Usage Tips:
The first sentence almost implies you have to live a hit to active Gooey, which I don't think is true. Some minor rephrasing there would be helpful.
I think Goomy can still be useful against defensive teams. It can basically completely wall some Pokemon like Foongus or Chinchou while also luring in Steel- or Fairy-types with its coverage move. Essentially, I'd remove the last point unless I'm missing something.

Team Options:
Steel covers all its weaknesses and Goomy covers their Fire weaknesses. Magnemite can even trap steels so that Goomy can use Sludge Wave which is cool.

Checks and Counters:
Personally, I'd group Regenerator mons in with bulky Pokemon and give them a special mention. Don't have to though.

H&M is right, that stuff about Eviolite may be obvious to us who know the metagame, but someone who is new to the meta won't know that stuff when they read this. Always keep that in mind when writing/checking analyses

Ponyta works well in this role, and it can help get around the Fairy-, Steel-, and Ice-types that trouble Goomy. Slow, bulky attackers like such as Pancham and Skrelp appreciate the Gooey support Goomy provides; Pancham has the added benefit of beating Steel-types and luring Fairy-types with Gunk Shot, whereas Skrelp beats Fairy-types and lures Steel-types with Hidden Power Fire.

Goomy has a decent Attack stat and can make use of physical attacks such as Outrage and Iron Tail in conjunction with Sap Sipper, but it is let down by poor stats (you just said Goomy has a decent Attack stat so it's weird to say that it's let down for the opposite of what's written - clarify?) and is also heavily outclassed by other more powerful attackers.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Even with Sludge Wave for coverage, Goomy struggles to deal with bulky Fairies, such as Spritzee and Snubbull,(AC) that can hit it hard with super effective STAB attacks.

Moves
========

Draco Meteor is a powerful Dragon STAB—so powerful, in fact, that two Draco Meteors from Goomy will always outdamage two Dragon Pulses, even with the Special Attack drop.

Set Details
========

The listed EV spread and a Bold nature maximize Goomy's Defense and bolster its Special Defense, giving it a spread of 22 / 14 / 16 before Eviolite. The extra EVs are put into Speed,(AC) as it is the only remaining stat that can be raised with 36 EVs. However, if you choose to use Hidden Power Fighting, you will have to forgo the Speed EVs with a spread of 76 HP / 240 Def / 160 SpD to maintain the same defensive stats. Eviolite is used to raises Goomy's defenses and is preferred over Berry Juice, as Goomy both needs the increased defenses Eviolite provides to check threats like such as Chinchou and already has access to Rest. It is possible to move the 76 HP EVs into Special Attack, then for notably scoring a 2HKO on Spritzee with Sludge Wave. However, Goomy is then 3HKOed by attacks such as Timburr's Drain Punch and can no longer beat Snivy without Sap Sipper.

Usage Tips
========
