Gorebyss discussion

This is my first discussion, so yay. I'm sure I screwed up the EVs, but oh well.

I feel that Gorebyss has improved a lot since Emerald, though mainly because of the new metagame, rather than the actual ingame improvements.

Gorebyss - Water (Just like Golduck, it looks like it should be Water/Psychic, but it's just water. Meh.)

With the surprising absence of PHazers in the metagames so far, baton passing multiple things isn't as much of a ridicolous idea, at least not yet. Better to get in during a rain dance because let's face it, she's not that fast, even with Swift Swim. The EVs give you 203 speed and a solid 259 in both defenses. If you really wanna push the BPing, go for agility, but if you wanna not be screwed over by Taunters, go with Surf. If you do go with Surf, it could be worth moving some EVs into the Sp. Atk stat, to take advantage of Rain Dance.

She has the moveset, but I'm really not sure if she can hold up long enough to last it out. The main problem would be getting everything set up. This could work on a Rain Dance team, and it could be pretty unexpected, actually. Can take physical hits pretty well. But chances are, this will fail. Miserably. Gimmick much?

First time I've ever been HAPPY at a small movepool. That might've been one of the easiest movesets. I'm sure there's some type that's not covered in there, but there's really not anything you can do about it.

1. Switch in when rain dance is being awesome for you
2. Hydro Pump
3. Baton Pass the hell away when it gets tough

Gorebyss is kind of a paradox. Her moveset makes her seem like a great supporter, but her stats...well, they just don't make sense at all. She also has Rain Dance, but I think she simply is not "the" pokemon to use it. Her strengths are maximized when she switches in DURING a rain dance. Overall, she could be pretty good in UU, and be rather unexpected in a Rain Dance team. Her overall usefulness remains to be seen.

Also note that Gorebyss got 1 new notable move, at least as far as my count goes. Fuck you to Nintendo. D:<

((So how did I do? ^^'))

You forgot the Rain Dance sweeper, which is actually quite powerful in UU. HP Grass or Electric is a more viable option over Shadow Ball/Psychic on the Choice Specs set. Also, Toxicstalling simply will not work. At least have Surf so it doesn't get walled by Steels.

Thanks, I'll throw in the Rain Dance set and edit the Toxistalling/Choice Specs set.

Gorebyss learns Hydro Pump, that should be mentioned. It's superior to Surf on the Rain Dance sweeper, since a unboosted Hydro Pump does the same damage as Surf in the Rain.

A Modest Gorebyss with max sp. atk (359) does 39~45% damage to the standard Blissey with Hydro Pump in the rain, while Surf does only 31~36% damage.

I would use this Gorebyss in a Rain Dance team:
Gorebyss @ Petaya/Liechi Berry
252 atk/252 spd/4 hp
Baton Pass
Iron Defense
Hydro Pump
Ice Beam

There'll be Rain, making Gorebyss fast enough to sweep. A third attacking move would be useless when compared to Hydro Pump's power, so Iron Defense is mostly a filler.
Baton Pass is for when Gorebyss ate her Berry and needs to get outta there.

Thanks muchly, editing again.

For the BPer set these EV's tend to be better with BP/Iron Defense/Amnesia/Surf.

Calm/HP-200, Def-56, S.atk-104, S.def-108

Gorebyss cannot outspeed things really, instead take advantage of the fact with ID it can actually take a generic sweeper Metagross head on before Baton Passing it off to something even more threatening. If you don't believe me than the figures will speak for itself, max attack Adamant Metagross does 43% damage tops w/ Earthquake on Gorebyss WITHOUT a boost. One Iron Defense already reduces its damage potential to pathetic levels. Meteor Mash isn't even an option considering Gorebyss resists it.

The s.def gives enough so it can even survive a good grass/electric attack after Amnesia so it can BP off. HP gives 301 so it can actually setup on Blissey without dying in 2-3 hits and so theres abit more HP for the defenses to work off.
