Gothitelle Discussion

So speaking of gimmicky crap (all be it a week later, but I was on vacation), I've been running a kind of lulzy Goth set today that, while unfortunately only effective a little less than 50% of the time (probably less against the better players on the ladder or ones who have seen it before), is incredibly satisfying when it does. Anyway, players of the NU metagame, I present the right honorable Recycle Starf Gothitelle:

Gothitelle@Starf Berry
EV's and Nature: Subject to Modification but I've been running 252 HP / 252 SpAtk / 4 Def Modest
Ability - Shadow Tag
~Substitute
~Psychic/a different attack
~Rest/another attack
~Recycle

Basically come in on something that can't hurt you, sub into Starf range, and Spam Recycle until it runs out of PP and you have a sum total of +34 boosts (out of the maximum of +42, though admittedly getting +6 attack and accuracy when you have all special attacks and no moves with less than 100% accuracy is annoying). I've been running it in conjunction with a Trick Scarf Gothorita whose sole purpose is to support Gothitelle by tricking someone on a predicted status move so Gothitelle can run a coverage move instead of Rest (the lack of coverage otherwise is annoying what with Dark Pulse being illegal with Shadow Tag, Psychic, Psyshock, HP Fighting, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball being walled by entire types, and Signal Beam being much too weak unstabbed for a monoattacker set) and ensuring Gothitelle manages to set up without being crippled.

Personally, I've been running Psychic and HP Fighting in slots two and three, since Psychic/Fighting is only resisted by Psychic types, which rarely run phazing moves, but again Rest is a necessity without some way to ensure an unbroken sub. The main flaw with the set is just that you have to either have eliminated all members of the type you can't hit on your opponent's team before you can do anything or be out against someone who can get you into pinch range but otherwise can't 17 hit KO your sub (such as something locked into Stealth Rock faced with two trappers switching back and forth until Goth gets to 50%).

This set possibly has the worst 4MSS I have ever seen, since if it could run just one more move and have coverage and recovery, I honestly thing it would be one of the most awful things to face ever.

tl;dr: Is this the best Goth set ever? No, but it is very amusing when it works, and is the only way for Gothitelle to boost its defense and (legally) evasion, and, if it works, will often leave Gothitelle with +6 almost everything (including defenses and evasion, so even at 25% it can be nearly impossible to take down).

This is probably the trolliest and I'm gonna go test it right now to see if it works! Very creative! At first I was like "What the hell" but them thought of how evil that is >:D. Everything's gonna have aerial ace now because of this

Lol, the only people who are going to stay in a match when that thing starts setting up are the ones who are just laughing at how bad they're about to get murdered. This could be the most ragequit-inducing set I've ever seen.

Like I said since Gothitelle was released, I think Specs is its best set and I stand by my word to this day. The more I use it, the more I come to like it even more. To start some more discussion started I wanted to know if anyone else would like to share some fun Pokemon that Gothitelle really helps out. A core I have currently using involving Specs Gothitelle was to help set up a Klang out by trapping and killing checks and counters to the set such as Emboar, Ludicolo, Samurott, and Torterra.

Gothitelle (F) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Signal Beam
- Trick

This is the Gothi set that I have been using, I haven't really tried anything else out for Signal Beam's spot so that's what I have it for now. If there is a potentially better move for this slot, it would be great to know. This set is here to revenge kill or heavily damage Pokemon that could possibly check Klang like as the mons mentioned above. I finish it off with Cacturne who proves Spikes to help spread out some extra damage while giving me some offense against Golurk, who can easily come in an stop a Klang sweep from happened due to its devastating Earthquake and good bulk.

EDIT: lol banned the day after I posted this ;_;

Yeah, Gothitelle is gone from NU, so there's no real need for this thread anymore. If you want to discuss the aftereffects of Gothi or the potential use of the pre-evolution whose name escapes me, you can go post in the np: thread. o/

Thank you uxsee for taking initiative in posting this thread and good job leading the discussion.
