[OVERVIEW]

Gourgeist has an extremely tiny niche over other Gourgeist formes, being able to outspeed the entire unboosted PU metagame with a Choice Scarf without having to run a Jolly nature. Gourgeist can also Trick its foes a Choice item, locking them into an unfavorable move, and can scout items with Frisk. However, Sawsbuck is a superior user of Choice Scarf because of its better Speed and greater offensive presence. Gourgeist is also reliant on Destiny Bond, which can be very risky to get locked into. In addition to this, Gourgeist is outclassed by Gourgeist-XL and Tangela defensively because of their superior bulk, by Simisage and Leafeon offensively because of their higher offensive presence, and by Gourgeist-S as a SubSeeder because of its higher Speed.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Trick
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Seed Bomb
move 4: Destiny Bond
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Frisk
nature: Adamant
evs: 44 HP / 252 Atk / 212 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
Trick lets Gourgeist lock passive Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Roselia into an unfavorable move and allows it to force out Calm Mind + Magic Guard users such as Clefairy and Duosion. Will-O-Wisp allows Gourgeist to cripple physical attackers such as Sawsbuck and Fraxure. Seed Bomb is Gourgeist's strongest and most reliable attacking move, hitting Rock- and Water-types such as Golem and Simipour, and is great for wearing down foes in conjunction with Will-O-Wisp. Destiny Bond knocks out Pokemon such as Zebstrika and Simisear as well as allowing a teammate to get in safely.

Set Details
========
212 EVs in Speed and a Choice Scarf allow Gourgeist to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and all Pokemon up to +1 Fraxure. 252 EVs in Attack and an Adamant nature allow Gourgeist to hit as hard as possible, and the remaining EVs are put in HP for added bulk. Frisk allows Gourgeist to scout out items such as Choice Scarf from Pokemon such as Sawsbuck.

Usage Tips
========
Gourgeist should make use of its typing to switch into Pokemon such as Sawsbuck as well as Pokemon locked into unfavorable moves, such as Choice Scarf Raichu locked into Thunderbolt. When using Will-O-Wisp, watch out for Fire-types such as Rapidash and Guts users such as Machoke, as they can absorb burn and use it to their advantage, as well as take advantage of a Choice-locked Gourgeist. Save Trick for a setup sweeper such as Clefairy or Klang so that you can lock it into an unfavorable move and remove its Eviolite, but be wary that once Gourgeist loses its Choice Scarf it won't be able to outspeed Pokemon such as Zebstrika and use Destiny Bond effectively. Only use Destiny Bond when you are sure that an opposing Pokemon is about to knock Gourgeist out; if you mispredict, Gourgeist will be locked into Destiny Bond, which the opponent can take advantage of.

Team Options
========
Water-types such as Simipour and Swanna are able to take on Fire-types for Gourgeist. Fire-types such as Rapidash and Ninetales can handle Ice-types such as Regice and Rotom-F, which threaten Gourgeist, while Gourgeist takes on Water-types such as Politoed for them. Setup sweepers such as Klang and Vigoroth appreciate Gourgeist's ability to get rid of their threats with Destiny Bond, aiding their sweep. Stealth Rock support from Relicanth and Golem is good for dealing chip damage to the opposing team, as Gourgeist forces many switches thanks to Trick and Will-O-Wisp, and they can also take on Fire-types and Flying-types for Gourgeist.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Gourgeist could run a Substitute + Leech Seed set to wear down its foes along with Will-O-Wisp, but Gourgeist-S is better at this role thanks to its superior Speed. Gourgeist could run a physically defensive spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def with Will-O-Wisp, Synthesis, Foul Play, and Seed Bomb to better function as a spinblocker, although Gourgeist-XL outclasses it in this role. Magic Coat is an option that allows Gourgeist to bounce back status moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp, but it is not recommended, as locking Gourgeist into Magic Coat will allow the opponent to take advantage of it. Fire Blast could be used to hit Grass-types such as Tangela, but Gourgeist lacks the space for it and it is quite weak. Shadow Sneak could be used to pick off foes such as Kadabra, but Gourgeist does not have the moveslot for it. Explosion could be used to get a teammate in safely without relying on the opposing Pokemon to attack, but it does not affect Ghost-types, such as Misdreavus, and does little damage to Steel-types such as Probopass. Phantom Force could be used over Seed Bomb for more power, but it makes Gourgeist vulnerable to Normal-types such as Stoutland and takes two turns to use.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Dodrio and Ninjask outspeed Gourgeist even if it has a Choice Scarf, and they don't have to worry about Destiny Bond. Once Gourgeist loses its Choice Scarf, Pokemon such as Stoutland and Zebstrika can KO it without worrying about Destiny Bond.

**Residual Damage**: As Gourgeist lacks a source of reliable recovery, damage from entry hazards such as Stealth Rock and status such as burns and poison can easily cripple it.

**Pokemon That Can Absorb Will-O-Wisp**: Fire-types such as Rapidash, which can gain a boost from Will-O-Wisp thanks to Flash Fire, and Machoke, which gains a Guts boost, can take advantage of Choice-locked Gourgeist. However, they must watch out for Destiny Bond.

**Super Effective Coverage**: Gourgeist's typing leaves it weak to common Ice-types such as Articuno and Flying-types such as Swanna, but they must watch out for Destiny Bond. However, once Gourgeist loses its Choice Scarf, they are able to KO it without worrying about Destiny Bond.

**Priority**: As Gourgeist is worn down easily, priority from the likes of Piloswine and Dusknoir can finish it off without their users having to worry about Destiny Bond, but they must watch out for Will-O-Wisp.

Adamant Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Phantom Force
- Trick
- Destiny Bond
EVs for zebstrika (w/ adamant it still outspeeds zeb whereas large needs jolly and super cant outspeed at all)

Alright, I'll edit this in soon.

Explosion in OO
Fix up c&c now before it goes further
specify that you won't use magic coat on a scarf set

2/3

overview:
mention why it is outlassed by gourgeist-xl and tangela, sawsbuck and leafeon
specify that being able to spinblock and access to frisk is a niche only over other grass-types such as tangela and leafeon, not other forms.
also emphasize how gourgeist to get its job done, is so reliant on moves that are really risky to use along with a choice scarf, because of getting locked into them.

moves:
when you talk about trick, i'd replace jumpluff with another setup sweeper, nowadays jumpluff mostly runs sets focused on utility rather than the sd one
mention seed bomb is the only real attacking tool at the disposal of gourgeist

TO:
remove slow pivots, gourgeist can do its job even if not at high health, also being at full hp doesn't necessarily help when running dbond
also jumpluff appreciates a lot removal of zebstrika
mention something to deal with fire-types, unless gourgeist gets locked in dbond, which is risky, it can't touch them
^ following this gourgeist isnt an optimal answer to fire-types unless you are playing against a potato, so remove the part when you say setup sweepers appreciate removal of fire-types from gourgeist
''Wallbreakers such as Stoutland appreciate Gourgeist's ability to cripple Tangela as well as walls such as Lickilicky'' this is wrong, wallbreakers are meant to break through walls so they don't need that much of an help, the ones that need help are sweepers, so remove this part, and when you mention setup sweepers, say that they appreciate first of all will-o-wisp support to weaken foes and find more set up opportunities, then dbond to also get rid of walls that may wall them

expand the points on this

Gourgeist is also outclassed as a SubSeeder by Gourgeist-S, which is faster. However, Gourgeist has an extremely tiny niche over the other Gourgeist formes as it is able to outspeed and KO Zebstrika with Destiny Bond with the help of a Choice Scarf and without needing a Jolly nature, while still maintaining offensive presence.
This is a bit misleading as it sounds like its niche is KOing zebstrika, whereas its just outspeeding the entire unboosted meta w/ a scarf (other than like ninjask) while being able to run an adamant meta

Spinblocking is definitely not worth mentioning as its not like spinners are relevant and they all beat gourg w/ a bit of prediction. The overview is a bit too positive, as you should specifically mention that sawsbuck is a superior scarf user and why

212 Speed EVs seems superior as it lets you outspeed +1 fraxure and the loss of HP isn't that bad

setup sweepers such as Jumpluff and Raichu into an unfavourable move
I cannot think of a situation where this will ever happen tbh

Gourgeist should not be switching in too much as it lacks recovery and it won't be able to use Destiny Bond if it is KOed
This just sounds like a generic analysis statement which only has some merit here. Often gourgeist will be switched in on mons such as sawsbuck (which it p much counters) as well as on some predicted (or locked into) water/electric moves

Save Trick for a passive Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Grumpig
Those two don't really switch in/stay in vs gourgeist

Be wary when using Trick on a Choice Scarfer such as Dodrio and Rotom-F as it won't work, and they can outspeed and KO.
for this i definitely can never see a situation where this is relevant. Vs dodrio/rotom-f they are either locked into something which either means you arent coming in (brave bird/blizzard) or they are switching out (return/thunderbolt), or if its from a double down you are definitely not going to stay in (vs a dodrio you dont know if scarf or band you will either switch out or just dbond)

Slow pivots such as Pelipper and Probopass allow Gourgeist to get in safely and stay as healthy as possible.
This is another generic statement that adds nothing

Water-types such as Simipour and Floatzel appreciate Gourgeist's ability to take out Zebstrika so they can switch in
Even if gourgeist could reliably take out zebstrika (which it doesn't), that is still not enough to recommend partners just for that

Machoke and Ursaring are able to absorb status such as burns and poison that wears down Gourgeist, while Gourgeist gets them in safely thanks to Destiny Bond.
Again, very generic and mostly wrong (ursaring hates switching into missy, machoke wont switch into grumpig and both wont switch into gourgeist)

Setup sweepers such as Klang and Regice appreciate Gourgeist's ability to remove Fire-types such as Rapidash and allows them to sweep more easily
Again, gourgeist cannot reliably take any mon out, esp not rap as it is either coming in (switching in/revenge killing you) in that case it would know what you are locked into, or you are coming in after a KO vs it which screems 'bait', and a double down is pretty unlikely. Also regice beats rap w/ rocks anyway

and heal status thanks to Natural Cure
This isnt relevant to anything

Mention phantom force in oo, also do c&c

Gourgeist has an extremely tiny niche over other Grass-types such as Tangela and Leafeon as it is able to outspeed the entire unboosted PU metagame with a Choice Scarf and run an Adamant nature
uh its niche over the other gourgeists is outspeeding everything w/o needing jolly, i dont think there is a reason to compare it over those two as they have different roles - just stick to comparing it w/ the other gourgeists as well as sawsbuck (also leafeon is faster than gourg lol). You also say a similar thing later in the overview (also mistyped simisear)

setup sweepers such as Arbok and Raichu into an unfavourable move.
changing one poke doesnt make this any less likely lol (in fact its even more unlikely as arbok wont try to set up on a gourgeist). The main use of trick isnt trying to somehow bait an offensive mon into locking themselves into a non attacking move, rather it is to cripple certain bulky pokes. Licki is an alright example, though roselia might be a better one as its more likely coming in on gourg to stack spikes

Seed Bomb hits Rock- and Water-types such as Golem and Simipour and is great for wearing down foes in conjunction with Will-O-Wisp. Seed Bomb is also Gourgeist’s only attacking move.
Seed bomb is used as its gourgeists most reliable attacking move (ie the strongest and only takes one turn) and it is also helpful to RK pokes like floatzel (defo not to wear shit down w/ willo)

In SD you still mention 160 speed EVs

Water-types such as Simipour and Swanna are able to take on Fire-types for Gourgeist while Gourgeist provides Will-O-Wisp support.
The bolded part isnt at all relevant

Setup sweepers such as Clefairy and Duosion appreciate Gourgeist's ability to weaken foes with Will-O-Wisp so that they can find more setup opportunities to sweep, and can switch in on status as well
When building w/ cm clef and duo you dont specifically think about partners that can burn things (i mean they dont appreciate will-o support any more than most other pokes), esp w/ clef which dislikes fire types and will often run thunderwave.

Roselia can provide Spikes support, absorb Toxic Spikes, and also act as a solid switch in to status.
You can say this on literally every analysis, yet it seems particularly out of place here considering they share several weaknesses

However, once Gourgeist loses its Choice Scarf, they are able to KO it without worrying about Destiny Bond.
Regice gets outsped by gourgeist

rubsomebacononit

'Spikes users such as Rosella into an unfavourable move'
The 'spikes users' bit isnt really needed there due to rose being p much the only relevant spiker. Roselia counts as a passive pokemon anyway

Phantom Force could be used over Seed Bomb for more power, but it makes Gourgeist vulnerable to Normal-types such as Stoutland and locks it in takes two turns to use.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Priority**: As Gourgeist is worn down easily, priority from the likes of Piloswine and Dusknoir can finish it off without their users having to worry about Destiny Bond, but they must watch out for Will-O-Wisp.

and by Gourgeist-S is also outclassed as a SubSeeder by Gourgeist-S, which is faster because of its higher Speed.
I know this isn't my analysis, but I don't think this really makes sense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that turn out to be "and by Gourgeist-S as a SubSeeder by Gourgeist-S".

TDP edit: forgot to cross out the second gourgeist-s, ty

In addition to this, Gourgeist is outclassed by Gourgeist-XL and Tangela defensively because of their superior bulk, Simisage and Leafeon offensively because of their higher offensive presence, and by Gourgeist-S as a SubSeeder because of its higher Speed.

Moves
========
Trick lets Gourgeist lock passive Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Roselia into an unfavorable move
and allows it to force out Calm Mind + Magic Guard users such as Clefairy and Duosion.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========
Save Trick for a setup sweeper such as Clefairy or Klang so that you can lock
it into an unfavorable move and remove its Eviolite, but be wary that once Gourgeist loses its Choice Scarf it won't be able to outspeed Pokemon such as Zebstrika and use Destiny Bond effectively. Only use Destiny Bond when you are sure that an opposing Pokemon is about to knock Gourgeist out; if you mispredict, Gourgeist will be locked into Destiny Bond, which the opponent can take advantage of.

Team Options
========

Other Options
=============
