[Overview]
  • Monster Base Attack
  • Same physical defense as Ursaring
  • Less speed than Ursaring
  • Intimidate and Quick Feet
  • Generally outclassed by Ursaring but still has its use
  • Just look at how cute it is, it would be glad to have your face as a souvenir.

Move 3: Close Combat / Low Kick
Move 4: Protect

  • 310 base speed with Quick Feet (jumping on base 105's)
  • Protect to safely activate Orb
  • Protect to scout
  • Crunch for Psychics
  • Close Combat for Rocks and Steels
  • Low Kick for heavier opponents like Golem

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • Thunder Wave over protect to nab anything that attempts to switch in on the expected protect.
  • Stone Edge for Flyers
  • Rock Slide for acc.
  • Could be paired with Ursaring for a double sweeper combo

[SET]
Name: Banded Bulldog
Move 1: Return

Move 3: Crunch
Move 4: Ice Punch / Stone Edge
Item: Choice Band

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Return for standard STAB move
  • Crunch for Psychics
  • Close Combat to crush Steels and Rocks
  • Ice Punch is preferable since it hits more of the NU metagame, especially Altaria
  • Stone Edge nabs Flyers and other mons who are resistant to Ice Punch

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • Needs Thunder Wave support for best results
  • Only outsped (when Adamant) by Swellow, Ninjask and Electrode when para'd

  • Sub Punch(???)
  • Trick Room
  • Support(???)

[Checks and Counters]

  • Eviolite Tangela

What do these sets have over Ursaring? These seem to be outclassed by Ursaring.

Perhaps a support set, Granbull has decent bulk thanks to intimidate, access to Heal bell and thunder-wave maybe even an Offensive T-wave set, T-wave / Return / Crunch / CC?

and Dusclops is UU :P

I'll edit out duskie then, still not 100% sure on a support set since it's totally outclassed by miltank.

Also: With Intimidate on the banded set it allows Granbull to take hits better if it fails to KO the opponent, allowing it longer life compared to a toxic'd/burned Ursaring which can get stalled off by protect. I can edit the Mack Truck set with Protect/Thunder Wave because if you switch in Granbull on a harmless mon you can essentially get a free turn and T-Wave whatever comes in; will that work?

Well in my mind the Mach Truck set is a cleaner more than an offensive supporter. I think T-Wave should left to his teammates but if you think it deserves a spot maybe AC?

I'm not sure what the policy for outclassed sets is, but Quick Feet is worse than Ursaring unconditionally and Ursaring is NU; Intimidate CB looks like the only particularly unique thing it can do.

C/C needs major beefing up. armaldo, machoke, and scarf sawk all come to mind.

I hesitate to call kadabra a counter or even a check. same goes for weaktrio.

if you want my reasoning behind both Kadabra and Dugtrio (although I'm not sure if he's gonna stay come next tier shift) I'd be glad to elaborate.

I asked around on IRC if Magic Guard prevented Paralyzation from occuring (even the speed loss) and my responses all so far have been yes. With that in mind Kadabra still outspeeds Quick Feet Granbull even while para'd and threatens it with psychic (which will surely OHKO after toxic damage). Dugtrio is also immune to Thunder Wave (although he can still be para'd by a stray Body Slam or Bounce) and also outspeeds Granbull without question; with Earthquake Life Orb Dugtrio does about 60.7% - 71.3% damage which is a clean 2HKO after toxic damage (even a OHKO after previous toxic damage).

I don't know why people would think that considering the number of times I've been parahaxed out of a Reuniclus sweep by Jirachi. Regardless, when in doubt, look it up on Bulbapedia. Magic Guard does not ignore the speed loss - it still happens. Kadabra, therefore, is a mediocre check (and probably shouldn't have been on the list in the first place). I'd much rather see counters similar to what Breludicolo mentioned.

Okay I changed C/C

I also think Weezing, Eviolite Tangela and Kingler could be considered checks but am not too sure about it. Would like opinions before adding them.

yes; eviolite tangela deserves special mention. don't add kingler because kingler sucks.

also, magic guard does not prevent full paralysis this gen; it did do so in gen 4, though. It has never prevented the speed drop, however.

the reason that I say dugtrio and kadabra are poor checks is because they can't switch in except on a revenge kill or a sac. they are far too physically frail.

Okay I totally see your logic behind that and i didn't know Magic Guard had changes made between Gen 4 and 5. Tangela added to C/C.

Mention that unless other moves cause 4x damage to the opponent, Facade will always deal more damage as it has STAB and Guts boosts. And Crunch is not for Psychics as Facade will deal with them, Crunch is for Ghosts. Minor nitpick here and there. :P

athleteandy is right; protect is supposed to be at the bottom of all sets (not overly sure why).
