Grindmode (peaked #1 on Groudon's Grotto)

Introduction:

Welcome RMT people. After returning from a small break from Pokemon and World Cup approaching I decided I needed a team. After laddering a bit to get reacquainted with the metagame, I stumbled upon Terrakion and its brute force. Equipped with a Choice Band, I found myself having to sacrifice countless shit to Close Combats/Stone Edges. Without the need of setting up it literary 2HKOs the entire metagame with good predictions. That's why I prefered it over SD/Agility sets. So I decided to build a team based around it. I originally planned to post this after we won World Cup, but to my surprise (and probably everybody elses) I did not make it onto my team. I blame (BAN ME PLEASE)wind for this. So I'll post it a little early since it has some major flaws.

First off, to fully take advantage of Terrakion I wanted entry hazards. With Skarmory and Ferrothorn on the rise i opted for Forretress since it sets up on both of them and spins their shit away. Next, I went with a defensive F/W/G core which was always successful in DPP. To preserve my entry hazards I went with Jellicent as my water type. Since dragons are annoying Air Balloon Heatran was added as insurance since Forretress dies pretty fast often. Also comes in handy against sun teams. Celebi got the spot over Ferrothorn since I already had a spiker and two steels. Also helps against rain teams. For the final spot I needed a revenge killer and went with my favorite since DPP, Jirachi.

To my surprise, Volt Switch Forretress + U Turn Celebi/Jirachi + Terrakion worked amazingly. Most of the their common counters (Magnezone, Heatran, Tyranitar, Blissey etc.) gives Terrakion an opportunity to wreck shit up. Now onto the team:

Heatran (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I usually never lead with it (unless my opponent has a Dragonite or Volcarona) and try to keep its Air Balloon intact for pesky dragons. Heatran is here to set up Stealth Rock to keep the metagames most dangerous threats at bay. Takes Draco Meteors and Outrages for the team as well as some fire moves. Has great coverage, good overall defenses, not much else to say about it. Usually my counter against sun teams and shits on Dugtrio thanks to Air Balloon which is why i prefer it over the Special Defensive set.

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SAtk
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Rapid Spin

Almost all my teams have a Rapid Spinner, I just can't seem to play without one. Part of the Volt Turn combo I mentioned earlier. Forretress is pretty underrated atm, it shuts down most defensive threats (Skarmory, Ferrothorn) and offensive (Dragons) and finds opportunities to set up or rapid spin. I went with HP Ice because Landorus is extremely annoying to my team and those dragons. Spikes are crucial for the team to aid Terrakion in wrecking shit. As well as helping the Volt Turn trio and helps against opposing Volt Turn teams. Shuts down Sub/Protect Gliscor who would otherwise be a massive douchebag and wall Terrakion.

Jellicent (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Cursed Body
EVs: 248 HP / 200 Def / 60 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover

Jellicent is the best spin blocker in OU capable of beating all spinners. Went with Shadow Ball over Scald because Starmies usage has been going up lately. Jellicent is also a decent stall breaker with taunt + wow shutting down most defensive combos. Its typing also provides the team with a fighting immunity. Curse Body has come in handy a few times but usually never works when I want it to so I'm considering Water Absorb since Scalds are annoying. Some input on this would be nice.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 132 SDef / 44 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- U-turn
- Perish Song / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover

Final part of the F/W/G core. Got this set from a RMT and loved it. It stops Rotom and Rain in general from steamrolling my team. Acts as my status absorber and helps against Breloom. Perish Song is to beat CM Jirachi which otherwise 6-0's me but I've been considering HP Fire because otherwise its easy pursuit bait for Scizor. Giga Drain is too weak so I might use Leaf Storm, opinions?

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
- U-turn
- Trick

Good defenses, typing, movepool, 60% flinch move, why not give a Choice Scarf? Jirachi has been my favorite revenge killer since DPP and makes a return as one of the best in BW. Went with adamant because it needs the extra power and there really isn't a need for jolly since flygon doesn't exist anymore.

Terrakion @ Choice Band
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Quick Attack

Wreck shit.

Threats:

Landorus: Gotta play carefully because my only Earthquake resist is Celebi and it gets picked off by U-turn.

Gengar: Shadow Ball + Focus Blast annihilates my team. Only hope of beating it is Jirachi but it's 2HKO'd by it so i can't let it sub no matter what.

against Gengar I suggest to change CB Terrakion to Scarf Terrakion, he outspeeds Gengar and then OHKO. Landorus after a Jellicent's Will-O-Wisp is a piece of garbage.

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you on your astounding ladder achievement.

Anyways, I think choice scarf tyranitar would fit really well on this team; it's hard to find someone to replace, but I think it'd fit best over Jirachi since most of the mons it revenges, you either already have checked [dd dragons] or ttar checks them as well [opposing terrakion]. You also have two other steels in heatran / forretress. Anyways, on to how ttar will help out your team: you mentioned that your two biggest threats are gengar and landorus. Forretress lures the former in and volt switches out of it, which leads to an easy pursuit. However, this makes you even weaker to landorus, so if you try ttar, use a hasty nature and ice beam > stone edge; I've used this set on a few teams and it's extremely effective at nabbing surprise kills on expert belt variants of landorus, which are the most common. It's also pretty nice insurance against gliscor and it can check dragonite without relying on stone miss's 80% accuracy. Ttar also comes with the benefit of being another great sun check.

While this change guards you against expert belt landorus, you might still struggle against a smart choice scarf landorus that u-turns out of your ground checks [celebi / balloon tran], so you might want to consider changing terrakion to a life orb set with protect. Scarf landorus usually gets sent out to try and revenge terra, so this way you can scout if they want to u-turn or eq; if you see eq, you get a safe switch, and if they u-turn, you fire off another hard hit with terrakion. This set isn't too much weaker than the cb variant because you've got multiple hazards backing you up and I think the extra utility of protect will be more beneficial overall.

edit: since you have volt switch/hp ice forry, you want a bold nature, not impish.

Very nice team, luvdisc.
