Grassy Seed turns Grookey into a potent setup sweeper and gives it a Defense boost, which is instrumental in helping it set up with Swords Dance and devastate foes with Grassy Glide. Acrobatics immediately becomes empowered due to Grassy Seed being consumed and makes it difficult for Grass-types like Foongus and Pumpkaboo-S to reliably check Grookey, while Drain Punch handles Steel-types like Pawniard, Ferroseed, and Magnemite. Grookey's ability to threaten foes like Staryu and Choice Scarf Mudbray makes it a good partner to Pokemon such as Ponyta and Abra. Entry hazard support from Dwebble chips down bulky foes like Foongus and Timburr into range of a KO. Diglett is also a great teammate, as its ability to trap Ponyta and Focus Sash Abra makes it easier for Grookey to sweep.
