GSC Cup XI - Round 8

Thunder management simulator.

Tournament Rules
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here.
  • Smogon Classic rules can be read here.
  • Standard GSC OU.
  • Best of three, single elimination.
  • Matches are to be played on Smogtours, unless both parties agree to play on Main PS! server.
  • Do not make baseless activity posts -- get in contact with your opponent and report missed times / scheduling issues only.
  • Replays will be required starting in Round 2 of the tournament.
    • Replays in winposts must be easily findable and accessible as per this.
This is just a small snippet of the full rules, which you can find here!

Identity

About playing on alts: It is entirely allowed to play on an alt other than your own main forum name, though if your opponent wishes to confirm your identity, you must log on to your main alt to show them you are who you claim to be. This is to prevent people from pretending to be who they're not. Furthermore, pretending to be another player in relation to a tournament battle is strictly prohibited. Do not try to impersonate or play as another player.

About playing on different servers: Tournament matches must be played on the Smogtours server. The Main PS! server is also acceptable if both parties agree to that. Other servers are not sanctioned by the TD team and playing in them might result in your game not counting. Protect yourself from that by playing on Smogtours, where we also have the power to recreate games that end due to DC's.

Scouting

On scouting opponents: Going through your opponents replays of tournament and ladder games is entirely allowed, as long as a game is public there is nothing preventing you from watching it. An exception to this is abusing powers granted to you by being staff on Smogon or PS! to gain access to information a normal user wouldn't have access to, which is strictly forbidden.

On leaking teams: Divulging private information about someone's planned team to their opponent is never allowed, and will be heavily sanctioned. Requesting that such information be divulged is also grounds for punishment. Keep your scouting to publicly available information and you'll be fine.

Timer Clause / Disconnections

On the Timer: The timer must stay on throughout the whole battle.

On Timeout losses: A player that loses by having all his time run out loses the game. This is only not the case if the player that received the timeout loss can be verified to have suffered a True Disconnection. Rematches are only allowed if there was a True Disconnection.

On True Disconnection: The TD team has a secret threshold of seconds that your timer must be at or above, from the moment you disconnect, for a timeout loss to be considered a True Disconnection. If your game is determined to be a true disconnection, if you played on Smogtours and contacted a TD before the room expired, your game will be recreated up to the point the disconnect happened. It is the responsibility of the player that disconnected to get a TD into the room before it expires.

PDC vs. Siatam

Before diving into this match up, I thought I may list both players previous opponents to see what challenges they overcame to get to the semifinals of this tournament.

PDC - Path to semifinals
Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Minatevis
Round 3: Surmen6781
Round 4: JStanislaw
Round 5: lax
Round 6: Kristyl
Quaterfinals: SoulWind

Siatam -Path to semifinals
Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Void
Round 3: Hockey1
Round 4: TLTK
Round 5: A Welcome Guest
Round 6: The_App
Quaterfinals: Groudon

The one thing both share is they had a bye round 1, not so suprising for GSC. PDC had the way tougher challenges ahead of him to make it to semifinals after he got to round 5, where he faced lax, followed by Kristyl and SoulWind being the last challenge to get to Semis.

Siatam on the otherhand had overall from Round 2 onwards decent challenges ahead, already facing Void although known for his DPP and VGC, is still a very skilled player. After that some decent tours players came his way until in round 6 where he faced a new face of GSC OU followed up with Groudon who took kenix out just the previous round.

Who had the tougher run so far? Not sure to be honest but I think PDC at the end of the day, considering the caliber of players he faced in later rounds. Who do I think will win this round is the question of today: No clue, I think both can take it home. The question is: Can PDC adapt to Siatams unique take on the tier? Can he maneuver himself thru the interesting team choices he may face and adapt to it? I think it will come down to that mostly, if he can he may very well go out as the winner of this match up. Going with Siatam for this one.

Best of luck to both of you!

Skarpherim  vs  Fear

Skarpherim

Round 1: Bye
Round 2: timeless_asteroid
Round 3: kaipro
Round 4: cyberacc
Round 5: k3nan
Round 6: stunner047
Quaterfinals: gorgie

Fear
Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Zcarlett
Round 3: Triangles
Round 4: underlying
Round 5: feen
Round 6: Bohrier
Quaterfinals: shiloh

Skarpherim vs. the titan Fear! A quick review of the challengers they faced previously: They share the same round 1, which was a bye. Round 2 Skarpherim did end up getting the win by his opponent, meaning he had advanced two rounds of the cup without having to reveal much information about his team choices and with round 3 onwards he got some opposition his way that was willing to face. The turning point of their skill started in round 5, where he faced former SPL player k3nan, followed up by stunner into gorgie last round. A tough late run for them to overcome.

Fear on the other hand had decent competition but none of them other than underlying (another new GSC OU face) really was known for their GSC skills, although shiloh and him are friends he may have had a bit of a challenge to prepare teams vs. them, since there is a big chance he taught them GSC.

Now onto more important matters: Who do I think will win this bout? On paper it says Fear. My gut feeling too. Skarpherim is a good player and has his way around the tier, which you could see last round after he managed to take down gorgie but I think Fear will take this home and advance to the next round. Maybe my decision is also a bit biased here (as it was last round as well) but nevertheless I think Fear has the edge here.

Both luck to you two as well!

Looking forward to seeing these games.
