Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to...

G
SC Neo

In recent times, we have seen pet mods attempting to re-balance the Gen 1 metagame to be more varied and balanced. I figured I would take this approach to Generation 2.

Due to the increased pool of mons that need alterations compared to Gen 1, I'll be releasing Pokemon changes in "waves" of 20, with an equal amount of Gen 1 and 2 changes each time.

Now as for item, move and mechanics changes, I'm just gonna dump those all at once

Dark and Dragon are Physical types

Ghost is a Special type

Crabhammer, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Sacred Fire, Thunder Punch and Waterfall have their damage calculated based on the user’s Attack stat

Aeroblast, Ancient Power, Razor Wind, Sludge and Hyper Beam have their damage calculated based on the user’s Special Attack stat

Cross Chop: 110 BP, 85% accurate

Curse: Can only be used up to three times a la Stockpile, no longer reduces speed

Dragon Breath: 75 BP

Dream Eater: 75 BP when foe is not asleep

Egg Bomb: Damage calculated based on user’s level x1.4, 100% accurate

Giga Drain: 75 BP, 16 PP

Iron Tail: 100% accurate, no secondary effects

Jump Kick: 95 BP

Leech Life: 75 BP

Mega Kick: Fighting type Hyper Beam clone, exclusive to Hitmonlee

Mega Punch: 110 BP, Fighting type, exclusive to Hitmonchan

Octazooka: 100 BP, can never miss

Outrage: 130 BP, 5 PP

Razor Wind: Flying type, 100% accurate, no charge turn

Petal Dance: 130 BP, 5 PP

Sludge: 70 BP, 50% chance to Poison

Steel Wing: 80 BP, 100% accurate

Submission: 95 BP, 100% accurate, no drawbacks

Teleport: Switches out user

Thief: 75 BP, removes foe’s item even if the user has one already

Thrash: 130 BP, Fighting type, 5 PP

Triple Kick: 95% accurate, 20 BP first hit, 40 BP second hit, 60 BP third hit

Twineedle: 45 BP, each hit has a 30% chance to badly poison the foe

Vital Throw: 90% accurate, forces the foe to swap to a random ally

Black Glasses: 1.4x boost to Dark moves
Charcoal: 1.4x boost to Fire moves
Dragon Fang/Scale: 1.4x boost to Dragon moves

Discuss how these will impact the GSC meta along with every other change.

These are the first few mons I thought of.

Hitmonchan @ Lucky Punch
- Mega Punch
- Ice Punch
- Mach Punch
- Thunder Punch/Fire Punch/Curse
In Regular GSC, Hitmonchan was the worst fighting type, but here it might wind up being the best. With the Elemental Punches, Mach Punch, and exclusive access to Mega Punch, It can cover a wide variety of threats, while dealing massive damage thanks to Lucky Punch doubling boosting the power of all its best moves.

Gengar @ Leftovers
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Hypnosis / Substitute
- Explosion / Hidden Power Fire
Gengar's viable attack set is very different here than it is in regular GSC. Trading away Ice Punch for STAB moves is a step up in overall power, but it weakens its match-ups against most Ground types.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
- Double-Edge / Return / Body Slam
- Waterfall
- Curse / Roar
- Hidden Power Ground / Roar
Just like in Gen 4, you can get away with Waterfall+Normal coverage on Gyarados, since the only mon (so far) that resists both your main attacks will be Blastoise.

Porygon2 @ Pink Bow
- Hyper Beam
- Ice Beam
- Agility
- Thunderbolt / Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Ghost
P2 is the only Normal type with >100 base SpA, and thus has the most powerful unboosted Hyper Beam in the game. We can take advantage of this with Agility to outspeed everything in the game, and go Hyper Beam sweeping like its Gen 1.

Allow me to post some meta thoughts of my own

The king's reign is over. Between the Vital Throw, Thrash and Submission buffs, the Curse nerf, Blastoise's revamp not to mention the countless buffs to Fighting types and increased competition for teams' Normal type coming down the line, Snorlax's position in the meta is far less omnipresent than it used to. It'll still be good for sure, but you'll have to think a little harder now before you mindlessly slap him on a team.

Hello Outrage spam! These two have the tools to use the move to its full potential. Charizard can use Swords Dance and Fire coverage, while Dragonite can finally make use of its titanic Attack stat and Extreme Speed to clean late-game.

Baton Pass just got a whole lot scarier. Furret can pass boosts at lightning speed, while Togetic is extra fat with recovery, making it hard to take out after a few boosts. The Curse nerf hurts the playstyle a bit, but the addition of Growth and these guys more than makes up for it.

Blastoise will probably take over Skarmory's role as the ideal blanket check on a good amount of teams. Its typing offers some interesting utility over the Gen 2 Smogon bird, and Vital Throw is a more effective phazing move against Snorlax and its ilk.

Excuse the double post, but I got two things I wanna say real quick:

1. After realizing how insane crits are this gen, I have changed Lucky Punch to the following:

Lucky Punch: Usable by all Pokemon. Makes all Punching moves hit for 1.4x power and ignore stat changes.

2. We have a Discord server! Come join

So uh, anyone wanna host this? I already got the first wave of Pokemon stat and type changes handled and can probably do items pretty easily.

Oh no why are all the type items 1.4*
And why does growth increase defense
seems a bit much
Would personally add a Nasty Plot clone
Vital Throw: 90% accurate, forces the foe to swap to a random ally
No negative priority?
Although mons who get it are slow already and it helps with curse
Editgon2: vital throw has negative priority already nvm

Edit: as for meta predictions:
  • Finally don’t have to run thunder on Zap/Kou when there’s an absurd Magnet boost. RN Zap looks better due to fighting types getting resisted.
  • Skarm isn’t as good as fighting types like Machamp threaten it way more with more reliable fighting moves, but still might be better than blastoise for taking them at all
  • Gengar getting special STAB seems unnecessary considering it’s already decent enough and is the only ghost type other than Misdreavus, and new ghosts could’ve just been physical. Also effects coverage of all the normals/fighters, who have to run HP Dark over another HP, but that may be a good thing.
  • Restalk Growth Eeveelutions are scary due to Growth’s defense buff making it so easy to set, but are phased by Toise
  • As soon as good curse normals exist I can start running boom lax without nearly as much cost, woot
As for suggestions:
  • All weathers last by default 8 turns
  • Sandstorm gives 1.5* SpD to Rock and Ground types
  • Type items give 1.3* or even 1.2* to their type
  • Polkadot Bow and Dragon Fang (or their clones) could be item expies or new concepts all together
  • Rock Throw buff and redistribution, maybe stone edge expy, without the crit chance.
  • Meditate or Sharpen give SpA or SpA + Stat. Maybe Meditate is Spa/Def while Growth is +2 SpA.
  • Berserk Gene buff (maybe gives +2 SpA as well, or Para’s user instead of confuse)
  • Light Ball works on a nerfed Raichu

I think we should add more Steel types in future waves, perhaps Electrode would fit since it’s like a Pokeball.

It could be a fast supporter so adding bulk would be a good start. It already has moves like Light Screen, I think giving it Safeguard would be good.

Be aware though, that Safeguard can be abused.

Beserk Gene on Baton Pass Jolteon + Aerodactyl makes for a powerful combination.

Jolteon discourages Electric and Steel Attacks, and scared out Skarmary, while Luring in Ground- types and Magenton.

Further even non-Ground types will want to use Ground Attacks, but my strategy was always Baton Pass the effects of Beserk Gene from Jolteon to Aerodactyl.

With Safeguard blocking Confusion, it can be an Espeon Baton Pass to Jolteon Baton Pass to Aerodactyl for the sweep.

Espeon and Taurus can work similarly as Espeon discourages Fighting types, and lured in Ghosts that don’t threaten Normals, such as Taurus to KO with EQ on Gengar.

So basically if you don’t have Safeguard you can use the status curing berries to handle confusion such as Beserk Gene Jolteon to Baton Pass to Aerodactyl with Miracle Berry. Free Swords Dance turn 1.

If you made Beserk Gene +2 Atk & SpA that may be too much. Maybe just +2 Highest Offensive stat like how Photon Geyser works. If their stats are tied like with Mew, then priority to Attack.

+10 Defense, +5 HP
+Outrage

Attack and Speed swapped
+Growth, Spore

+100 Attack

+70 Special Attack
+Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Explosion

+20 Defense

+15 HP and Defense
+Heal Bell, Morning Sun, Teleport

+40 Attack, +20 HP, Defense and Special Defense

+30 Defense, +10 HP
+Fire Blast, Flamethrower

+30 Attack and 30 Speed, +10 HP
+Hypnosis, Swords Dance, Teleport

+30 Special Defense, +10 Defense
+Recover

In addition, here's a straggler I just couldn't figure out how to buff last wave:

Special Attack swapped with Attack and given a +30 boost, +10 Speed
+Flamethrower, Soft-Boiled

Discuss the impact these new changes will have

/
type
+7 Defense
+Soft-Boiled
nice mixed attacker, idk if it can actually touch anything if it doesn't drum

+20 Attack and Special Defense, +15 Defense
+Glare, Growth, Moonlight, Whirlpool
added moves make it quite scary if you mispredict a whirlpool, can function on either side well

+100 Attack
oh no
no priority prevents belly drum most of the time but it destroys everything
curse / waterfall / ice punch / rest is probably enough

/
type
+70 Special Attack
+Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Explosion
its type isn't good enough for the meta (right now), so other than boom it doesn't have too much going for it

+30 Special Defense, +10 Defense
+Recover
more reliable azumarril mmm

I can code the rest of this fingers crossed but calculating damage based on a stat without the PSS is a bit above my level at the moment.

Have you thought about making Poison type Special?

This seems like a highly offense-oriented meta with all the buffs to Pokemon and items.

Iron Tail being 100% accurate makes it a noteworthy coverage move.

Charizard and Feraligatr will both be deadly Swords Dance sweepers.

Is it possible to just change moves like Waterfall to be considered physical moves and vice versa until you figure that out?

Haven't thought about making Poison type special. Probably no, I think it makes sense as a physical type and special attackers get Sludge

So this is basically an in-between of the PSS and the regular Gen 1-3 mechanics. I like

Interest in this has been relatively low, coding's been sluggish and I've just generally lost interest. Anybody who wants to take this over is free to do so.
