Guild Wars-What one?

I voted Nightfall because it's the one I have. I don't play it too much, and all of my characters are lv 20 PvP only, and that's enjoyable for when I don't feel like playing WoW. Nightfall gets you two exclusive classes (Dervish, which is amazing, and Paragon), while Factions gets you Assassin and Ritualist.
Overall, unless you think you're going to be playing Guild Wars a good amount of the time, I'm not sure getting it at all is a good idea. At least it's free to play online (no monthly fee), which IMO is a pretty big thing that makes it playable.

Guildwars only really works if you have all of them.
The original is the most fun to play through for the actual story. It also has a lot of the best skills that aren't available in the others. However, it's pretty much dead since it's been out for so long. Only really playable in conjuction with Nightfall.
Factions is easily the best for PvP. It was designed to really bring that aspect of the game out. However, it's a complete pain in the ass for normal gameplay and not particularly interesting regardless.
Nightfall is really bland compared to both the others. However, it does introduce hero's (customizable NPC party members) which means that it's easier to play if you can't be bothered to wait for groups.
Don't buy Eye Of The North yet.
I played Guildwars for well over 3000 hours before finally having to delete everything to save my soul. When I played it, it was a damn fine game, but I don't know how feasible it is now that it's jsut full idiots.

Ahh, Guild Wars. About 500 hours on it myself, mainly PvE.
The first game I got was factions, and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it, and still do. Though I have been told time and time again how great prophecies is, but could never get into it. Mainly because the gameplay starts slower, giving more room for practice, and focuses in on more basic skills.
I highly recommend Prophecies as you first game.

NF is much more harsh to "newbs," as it doesn't give much of a tutorial, in fact, you have to bugger off until yo get to level 5 at the start, with no directions whatsoever.
So yeah, for beginners, Proph > Factions > NF > EOTN.
