Hatterene [QC 0/2]

[SET]
name: Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Draining Kiss
move 4: Mystical Fire
item: Leftovers
ability: Magic Bounce
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Hatterene's decent bulk, excellent offensive type coverage, and phenomenal ability in Magic Bounce allow it to serve as a dangerous wincon in the metagame. Mystical Fire is completely nonnegotiable as it allows Hatterene to pressure its Steel-type checks such as Corviknight, Excadrill, and Aegislash. In particular, it allows Hatterene to block Ferrothorn's hazards very effectively, due to Magic Bounce deflecting hazards and status moves, and Mystical Fire forcing Ferrothorn out. Stored Power seems appealing as it pairs well with Calm Mind and can help against the odd Unaware users, but Psychic's power is perfectly sufficient with the added perk of being immediately threatening. Running Stored Power also comes with the painful consequence of being easily stopped by Haze Toxapex.

52 Speed EVs are run so Hatterene can outspeed Toxapex. The rest of the EVs are dumped into Hatterene's physical bulk to allow it to check threats such as Ferrothorn and Conkeldurr as well as be harder to take down after Calm Mind.

Pokemon that are highly vulnerable to being worn down by chip damage from entry hazards such as Seismitoad, Hippowdon, and Togekiss appreciate Hatterene's ability to deter the opponent from setting up entry hazards. Ironically, hazard setters such as the aforementioned Seismitoad, Toxapex, and Ferrothorn can assist Hatterene by wearing down faster offensive Pokemon with chip damage from their respective hazards. Due to Hatterene's lack of immediate power, it appreciates wallbreakers such as Conkeldurr, Dracovish, and Rotom H to punch holes in the opponents team to pave the way for Hatterene to sweep. Although Mystical Fire helps somewhat, Steel-types such as Jirachi, Aegislash, Corviknight, and Excadrill can prove to be bothersome for Hatterene, as they easily foil Hatterene's attempt to sweep. Pokemon such as Corviknight, Toxapex, and Rotom W can check these Pokemon.

Alternatively, Hatterene can also utilize Trick Room thanks to its pathetic speed, great power, and its type coverage to be an anti-offense cleaner. Mystical Fire is used again to hit Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Excadrill, and weakened Aegislash and Corviknight.

Minimum Speed investment is used to make Hatterene as "fast" as possible under Trick Room. A Life Orb is chosen to increase Hatterene's damage output to make the most of Trick Room's short duration.

Hatterene appreciates entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Kommo-o, Ferrothorn, and Clefable to wear down offensive checks such as Aegislash and Excadrill. Powerful wallbreakers such as Conkeldurr, Aegislash, and Crawdaunt can easily punch holes in the opposing team. In addition, these slow and terrifyingly powerful wallbreakers can also utilize Hatterene's Trick Room to be even more deadly in the event that Hatterene fails to sweep.

Lastly, Hatterene can utilize its decent bulk and Magic Bounce to protect its team from hazards and to spread paralysis. Draining Kiss is used over Dazzling Gleam as it allows Hatterene to stay healthy throughout the match. Mystical Fire is used to pressure Corviknight, Ferrothorn, and to destroy Ferrothorn. This allows Hatterene to properly block hazards and status moves from it. Nuzzle is used to spread paralysis, allowing Hatterene to support its team. An Assault Vest improves Hatterene's fairly mediocre bulk and allows it to check foes such as Hydreigon, Kommo-o, and Keldeo.

132 SpD EVs with a Calm nature allows Hatterene to survive +2 Hydreigon's Flash Cannon after Stealth Rocks, while 28 Def EVs allows Hatterene to avoid the OHKO from Conkeldurr's Facade in a pinch. Running 52 EVs to outspeed Toxapex is certainly a viable option. If electing to run Speed EVs, SpA EVs should be taken out to make room for the aforementioned EV spread.

Powerful but slow wallbreakers such as Aegislash, Dracovish, and Obstagoon greatly appreciate Hatterene's paralysis support, as it allows them to outspeed faster Pokemon unopposed. Jirachi can also abuse paralysis in conjunction with Serene Grace to make the opposition even less likely to attack Jirachi. Pokemon who are vulnerable to being worn down by hazards such as Gastrodon, Ferrothorn, and Hippowdon highly appreciate Hatterene discouraging setting up hazards via Magic Bounce. Togekiss deserves a special mention as a partner due to it not only appreciating Stealth Rock being harder to set up by the opponent, but also takes advantage of parlysis in combination with Serene Grace to make the opposition extremely unresponsive and being harder to revenge kill, allowing it to wreck havoc. While Hatterene can beat most Stealth Rock users such as Kommo-o and Ferrothorn, it is completely invalidated by Clefable and Excadrill. Excadrill can ignore Magic Bounce to set up Stealth Rock thanks to Mold Breaker whilst completely destroying Hatterene with Iron Head; Clefable simply hard walls Hatterene and eventually wears it down. Checks to these Pokemon such as Corviknight, Rotom H, and Toxapex are highly appreciated. Corviknight in particular can check both Clefable and Excadrill and can remove their hazards by itself thanks to Defog.

Will do, I will put this back in WIP until that's done. I mainly use the other two sets, so is this the right set?

The EVs allow you to tank a Choice Specs Toxtricity Sludge Wave. Not that you would stay in, but it can come in handy in a pinch.
And more importantly, the point of the set is to exploit Magic Bounce to the fullest and check Hydreigon, correct?

Hatterene (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 28 Def / 96 SpA / 132 SpD
Calm Nature
- Psychic
- Draining Kiss
- Mystical Fire
- Nuzzle

This is the set we'd like you to use. The EV spread is to avoid being 2HKOed by Life Orb Hydreigon after Stealth Rock damage and to avoid being OHKOed by Conkeldurr. Assault Vest Hatterene fits best onto teams with Pokemon like Togekiss and Jirachi; the Nuzzle support and Magic Bounce support make it a great fit for these kind of teams.

Running Stored Power also comes with the painful consequence of being easily stopped by Haze Toxapex. a line about Draining Kiss would be good here; I don't think it's all too intuitive why you opt for it over Dazzling Gleam

52 Speed EVs are run so Hatterene can outspeed Toxapex. The rest of the EVs are dumped into Hatterene's physical bulk to allow it to check threats such as Ferrothorn and Conkeldurr surely there is a better mention than Ferrothorn as something Hatterene checks. that, or more explicitly state why taking hits from Ferrothorn is valuable as well as be harder to take down after Calm Mind.

Pokemon that are highly vulnerable to being worn down by chip damage from entry hazards such as Seismitoad, Hippowdon, Hippowdon has Slack Off and resists Stealth Rock, so I'm not too sure about its mention here; Kyurem would be better and Togekiss appreciate Hatterene's ability to deter the opponent from setting up entry hazards. Ironically, hazard setters such as the aforementioned Seismitoad, Toxapex, and Ferrothorn can assist Hatterene by wearing down faster offensive Pokemon with chip damage from their respective hazards. Due to Hatterene's lack of immediate power, it appreciates wallbreakers such as Conkeldurr, Choice Band Dracovish, and Rotom H to punch holes in the opponents team to pave the way for Hatterene to sweep. When I think of Rotom-H, I don't really think "wallbreaker" immediately; perhaps swap its mention with one of perhaps Zeraora Although Mystical Fire helps somewhat, Steel-types such as Jirachi, Aegislash, Corviknight, and Excadrill can prove to be bothersome for Hatterene, as they easily foil Hatterene's attempt to sweep. Minimum Speed investment is used to make Hatterene as "fast" as possible under Trick Room. I don't think this line is particularly useful; people should understand that a Trick Room Pokemon wants to be as slow as possible A Life Orb is chosen to increase Hatterene's damage output to make the most of Trick Room's short duration.

Powerful but slow wallbreakers such as Aegislash, Dracovish, and Obstagoon specify Choice Band Dracovish because Choice Scarf variants a) aren't really that slow and b) are only really used on rain greatly appreciate Hatterene's paralysis support, as it allows them to outspeed faster Pokemon unopposed. Gastrodon and Hippowdon mentions are both rather poor; you should change them Togekiss deserves a special mention as a partner due to it not only appreciating Stealth Rock being harder to set up by the opponent, but also takes advantage of parlysis in combination with Serene Grace to make the opposition extremely unresponsive and being harder to revenge kill, allowing it to wreck havoc. combine the Togekiss and Jirachi lines into one point about paralysis support being good for paraflinching checks down; you can also talk about Togekiss appreciating hazard control While Hatterene can beat most Stealth Rock users such as Kommo-o and Ferrothorn, it is completely invalidated by Clefable and Excadrill. Excadrill can ignore Magic Bounce to set up Stealth Rock thanks to Mold Breaker whilst completely destroying Hatterene with Iron Head; Clefable simply hard walls Hatterene and eventually wears it down. let me know when this is implemented so I can check over things a second time
