The LC Council has decided to suspect test Tera Blast.
Tera Blast has been a recurring headache for the LC council for years, serving as a primary reason for several bans throughout SV LC, acting as a really strong resource for offensive threats such as Voltorb-Hisui, Torchic, and Flittle. By granting these Pokémon high-powered coverage that blows through traditional checks such as Voltorb breaking Foongus, Torchic OHKOing Mareanie and Vullaby being 2HKOed by Snivy, the move restricts defensive counterplay to a very controversial point. In a metagame where defensive cores, like the famous TTM or Foongus structures, rely on specific resistances to maintain momentum, the ability for an attacker to suddenly lure and eliminate its supposed counter often forces players into guessing games, leading to concerns regarding competitive integrity,
On the other side, many argue that Tera Blast has reached a state of relative stability in the current landscape. Proponents of the move highlight the high opportunity cost involved, noting that it requires both a valuable moveslot and the commitment of the Terastallization mechanic. Without activating Tera, the move is effectively a dead slot, which can be a liability. Furthermore, with the strongest abusers already banned, many feel the remaining users are manageable and that the move provides a healthy offensive utility to the fast-paced LC environment.
A Tera Blast ban would cause some Pokémon to be unbanned or retested, which is controversial, but it is one of the main appeals for the ban supporters.
NOTE: THIS TEST WILL BE USING THE NEW SUSPECT PROCESS!
The instructions to participate in this test are as follows:
- Create a new account on PS. You do not have to follow any specific naming convention, but your suspect account must have never played a game in LC before this suspect test went up or you will not receive valid requirements (resetting W/L does not count for this - the account you use must never have played LC before the test, full stop.)
- At any point on your new account, use the command /linksmogon on Pokemon Showdown! You will receive instructions on what to do once you run this command.
- Double check that you're listed as a voter here! If you aren't listed as a voter despite having valid reqs, please contact me or a staff member.
