This team is mainly an excuse to try out a few pokemon that I haven't used before. It's not doing too badly, but I haven't been able to test it out much due to Shoddy's refusal to connect half of the time.
It's just a rough first draft at the moment, and I wouldn't be against changing a pokemon (I'm mainly thinking Jolteon here). I'm not exactly sure what to put there though.
Changes in bold.
Anyway, onto the team:
The Lineup
---
Jolteon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
Jolteon makes a decent lead and is useful throughout the game since it can scout for attacks with a quick substitute and then pass that sub to another poke. Baton pass is also useful for evading pursuit from CBTar and friends, which can be a lifesaver. Jolteon's base 130 speed, despite being outclassed due to scarfers, is always nice to have, and it allows it to comfortably outspeed stuff like a once DDed Gyarados.
---
Heatran (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 36 HP/220 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Grass]
There's a reason that Heatran is on nearly every team. SpecsTran provides the main muscle for my team, and can really hurt stuff that doesn't resist it with Fire Blast. I needed something that could put a hole in pretty much anything, and SpecsTran does this well. Fire Blast can 2HKO Blisseys that don't invest in SpD EVs after a flash fire boost. Even stuff that resists Fire Blast can usually be killed in 2 hits after a flash fire boost, showing just how powerful SpecsTran is. The rest of the moves are for coverage, and HP Grass can OHKO the Swamperts that love to switch into Heatran. Heatran is also my main Celebi counter, which is something that can really piss me off. EVs reach 245 speed, outspeeding pokes that hang around 244 speed, and the rest were dumped in HP.
---
Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 188 HP/252 Def/68 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
Vaporeon is a fantastic pokemon and functions as an effective Gyarados, Mixape and Heatran counter, as well as being able to hold its own against Garchomp and OHKO it with ice beam. It provides all important wish support for my team and repeated surfs from Vaporeon can actually hurt some pokemon. As an added bonus, what is probably the most popular grass attack, grass knot, only has 60BP (effectively 120BP) against Vaporeon, allowing it to take grass knots from various pokemon and wish off the damage. It can come in on water attacks for some free healing as well. Wish support really helps out my team.
---
Aerodactyl (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Pursuit
Aerodactyl is an incredibly underrated pokemon. It's one of the best late game cleaners, as it can outspeed a hell of a lot of stuff and score a KO on them once they're weakened. It also functions as my primary revenge killer, using that fantastic speed to kill a wide range of stuff. Though 309 attack seems low on paper compared to the physical threats of Garchomp and others, it's more than enough to finish off many pokemon with the aid of life orb. Fire Blast has been replaced with pursuit to let me kill fleeing psychics and ghosts. I'm probably not going to change Aero as it works so well and it's also one of my favourite pokemon. As a side note, why doesn't rock resist rock?
---
Hariyama (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 76 HP/180 Atk/252 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Stone Edge
- Cross Chop
I always like to have a pokemon that can switch into Blissey regardless of what it does, and Hariyama accomplishes this well. Hariyama is also an amazing TTar, Weavile and Houndoom counter as well, able to switch into any attack from them, courtesy of its fighting typing and thick fat, and OHKO with cross chop. Hariyama is also my all important status absorber and provides an aditional defence against the massive threat of Heatran due to thick fat. That huge HP stat allows Hariyama to take repeated abuse and rest it off.
---
Weezing (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Will-o-wisp
- Haze
- Pain Split
Weezing has taken somewhat of a fall from grace recently. However, it's still a great physical wall and one of the few real Heracross counters. Weezing can stop a number of important physical threats such as the aformentioned Heracross, Mamoswine and SD Lucairo, as well as being able to stop a Garchomp sweep by burning it. Weezing is also my team's hazer at the moment. Fire Blast 2HKOs most Heracross and Mamoswine and can OHKO Lucairo after a SpD drop. Still, I'm not entirely sure on the moveset. I definitely want to keep Fire Blast, WoW and Pain Split, but I'm not totally sure what to put in the third slot. I could run T-Bolt there to make Weezing my Gyarados counter, as that would allow me to run roar or protect on Vaporeon over HP Electric.
---
Known Issues and notes:
- HP Ground Yanmega could be a problem. I can deal with it if I play my cards right, but it can easily take down a pokemon or two if I'm not careful.
- Cresselia really annoys me. I can kill it, but it's insane defences means that it takes ages to die.
- Wish support is important for this team as it lets Heatran and Aero switch in repeatedly and it also allows Jolteon to make more subs.
- A well played ScarfGar is irritating. As long as I predict well, I can beat it, but it's irritating nontheless.
- Jolteon is probably the most replaceable member of my team, but bear in mind that I need a decent lead.
Constructive criticism please.
