Hidden Power always comes up as Normal

I keep trying to use hidden power on some of my Pokemon, like HP Grass/Ice for Heatran or HP Fire/Ice for Magnezone. But then, when I get into battle and I see my Pokemon's attacks, Hidden Power is always listed as a normal type move and used as though it were a normal type move.

I know I set the HP to the correct type that I want while in Team Builder but it doesn't go through while in battle and always comes up as normal.

What is the reason for this? I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone help me out?

This isn't a bug. Hidden Power is always a Normal type move. However, it does damage of a type other than Normal. Hidden Power works completely correctly in Shoddy Battle.

For a similar example, consider Doom Desire. This move does typeless damage, but it's a Steel type move.

I see, so it's only listed as Normal but Hidden Power actually functions correctly and works to its chosen type.
