Hitmonlee for Uber! (UU RMT)

Well, the title might be just a bit misleading. This team doesn't try to set up Hitmonlee for a sweep (although he sometimes does it by himself anyway). It's meant to set up our favorite UU Ghost, Mismagius, for a sweep! And not with that boring Nasty Plot set, we go old school in this RMT. It also uses a FGW core but hey, it's effective so why not! Without further ado I represent team Hitmonlee for Uber!

(This is probably one of my very few RMT's without my lovely nicknames, so bear with it please. ;])

Chyea. Mismagius's D/P sprite kicks Platinum's ass, as does K9's. ^_^

Let's start it off with my new favorite UU lead since back when whorelass was around and I used Hariyama everytime, Mesprit!

481.png

Mesprit(?)@Lum Berry
Nature:Modest
Ability:Levitate
Ev's:252HP/252SpA/4Spe
-Psychic
-Grass Knot
-Stealth Rock
-Healing Wish

Why this Pokemon? Mesprit starts the team off and is one of the most consistent leads in UU, defeating or holding its own against most of them. Mesprit sets up the hazards for the team and doesn't just plop its ass on the battlefield doing nothing like Uxie, it hurts things. Mesprit is also chosen over Uxie because of access to Healing Wish.

Moveset:Stealth Rock should be obvious as it's on 99% of lead Mesprit. Psychic is a powerful STAB with Grass Knot as the coverage move to hit Spiker leads like Omastar and Cloyster hard, while attaining the OHKO on Kabutops and Rhyperior. Healing Wish is a great support move that I'm starting to love more and more and helps one of my weakened Pokemon (usually Missy) if it somehow got crippled, allowing me a second chance to sweep.

Ev's, Nature, and item: A basic 252/252 spread does well for lead Mesprit, giving it a nice mix of power and bulk. The mere 4 Speed ev's allows Mesprit to outspeed max Speed Jolly Rhyperior. Modest chosen for added power and Lum Berry for sleeper leads so I can always get the hazards up.

Milotic(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Calm
Ability:Marvel Scale
-Ev's:252HP/192Def/56SpD/8Spe
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Recover
-Haze

Why this Pokemon? I loved using Milotic even before UU testing had begun, it was pretty decent in OU....Anyways, Milotic is a consistent Pokemon and that's why it's been a top-tier UU even when Raikou and whorelass were around, checking many Pokemon and is the 'glue' of the team. It checks threats and gives me momentum, basically.

Moveset: Milotic isn't really known for its diverse movepool, but it works. Surf for STAB and Ice Beam as the coverage move; I find Ice Beam more and more necessary with all the Toxicroak and Venusaur running around. Recover to keep her nice and healthy while Haze is used to make sure stat uppers don't sweep me, particularly annoying things like Curse Cradily if Hitmonlee is knocked out.

Ev's, Nature, and item: 252HP/56 SpD with a Calm nature gives a bonus point and a good amount of Special Defense to switch into Moltres all day. 8 Speed to outspeed max Speed Adamant Aggron before a RP, and the rest was dumped into defense. Lefties for extra recovery.

059arcanine.gif

Arcanine(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Jolly
Ability:Intimidate
Ev's:120HP/164Atk/224Spe
-Flare Blitz
-Extremespeed
-Morning Sun
-Toxic

Why this Pokemon? I love Arcanine in the games but competitively I never really liked it. I tried this set and it performed well enough though. I don't understand why people use LO and Adamant but what can you do. Arcanine is a Pokemon that can handle both Spiritomb and Registeel, which aids Mismagius greatly. It also spreads out status for those annoying Milotic and Slowbro so they die instead of annoy me. Arcanine also shits on Venusaur so that's always fun. Rhyperior is a problem but that's where Milotic comes in. ;D

Moveset: Flare Blitz is surprisingly strong, even without a boost and a Jolly nature. Extremespeed is useful priority and serves as a nice backup if I have to deal with a late-game Houndoom or something and Milotic is weakened or fainted. Toxic is useful for Bulky Water switch-ins and general tanks that can take any attack Arcanine can throw at it. Morning Sun for not so reliable recovery but it works.

Ev's, Nature, and item: I basically took the Morning Glory ev's and tweaked them just a bit. Jolly with 224 ev's beats Timid max Speed Rotom, and I put the few points left into Attack for a bit more bite. Jolly cause Arcanine loves its Speed, and Lefties so it has more staying power.

254.png

Sceptile(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Timid
Ability:Overgrow
Ev's:4Def/252SpA/252Spe
-Substitute
-Leech Seed
-Leaf Storm
-Hidden Power {Ice}

Why this Pokemon? Sceptile finishes up the FGW core and is my favorite Grass Pokemon, so naturally I'd use it. Well, that and it kicks ass. SubSeed is an annoying combo for anyone to face and Sceptile pulls it off the best with its blazing Speed. Sceptile also has a good Special Attack stat so it can hurt things on top of stalling. Sceptile is meant to attract things like Registeel which is its number on switch in and will proceed to be stalled out and pave the way for a Mismagius sweep. It also weakens teams with Rocks + Leech Seed damage so Mismagius has an easier time.

Moveset: Substitute and Leech Seed for the combo that will never die in Pokemon. Now, with SubSeeders it's nice to go with STAB and this Sceptile goes more offensive to bash things with Leaf Storm, which is horrendously powerful especially with an Overgrow boost. The last move is something to hit Grass-types who are immune to Leech Seed and, seeing how this Sceptile has max Special Attack, Hidden Power {Ice} was chosen to hit those damn turds.

Ev's, Nature, and item: Offensive SubSeedTile does nicely with a simple max/max spread, seeing as how it needs the Speed and Special attack to be a prominent threat. Timid for the tie with opposing base 120s, and Lefties for more survivability.

Hitmonlee.png

Hitmonlee(M)@Black Belt
Nature:Adamant
Ability:Limber
Ev's:4HP/252Atk/252Spe
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-Sucker Punch
-Mach Punch

Why this Pokemon? Hitmonlee is slowly becoming my favorite UU Pokemon. The sheer power in its Close Combats makes teams tremble, and their Ghost-types are always horrified when they think they get a free turn only to be hit with Stone Edge on the next. Hitmonlee is a great offensive partner with many Pokemon, but an excellent one with Mismagius because it OHKO's standard Registeel with this set and Stone Edge weakens Spiritomb so Mismagius can one shot it when it tries to come in and end its sweep.

Moveset: Close Combat should be on every Hitmonlee set. Every.Single.One. Stone Edge gives good coverage alongside Close Combat and nails Ghosts. Sucker Punch gives priority and I chose to not use Substitute with this Hitmonlee, but go for Mach Punch so I can revenge things like Absol, Houndoom, and the like. Close Combat + Mach Punch is just deadly, KOing things like Feraligatr so they can't do anything.

Ev's, Nature, and item: Hitmonlee also does well with a simple 252/252 spread for maximum amount of power and Speed. Adamant was chosen for the added power. Black Belt lets Hitmonlee gain the OHKO on standard Registeel and the 2HKO on standard Donphan and Milotic, while feigning Choice Scarf. I can't count how many times I've got the message "I thought that was scarfed xD". Sorry peeps, but no.

Mismagius.png

Mismagius(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Timid
Ability:Levitate
Ev's:48HP/208SpA/252Spe
-Substitute
-Calm Mind
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt

Why this Pokemon? Well this team is meant to have her sweep, duh. xD But seriously, if I was to base a team on a Special sweeper it would be either Missy, Zam, or Tres, and I have the most experience with Missy because I've used and fought against it since UU testing first began. Setting up on Chansey is just awesome, and it has great immunities and resistances. Eliminating its main counters, Spiritomb and Registeel, isn't difficult either because so many teams rely on them to check multiple threats, and they get worn down.

Moveset: The old standard returns. SubCM Mismagius was such a dominant and scary force that simply died out when Nasty Plot came around with HGSS, but I try and instill the fear in the people again. Calm Mind may not have the immediate power of Nasty Plot, but setting up on weak special attackers is much more handy and creates an unbreakable Substitute that begins Mismagius's reign of terror. Shadow Ball for STAB and Thunderbolt for coverage.

Ev's, Nature, and item: I took the standard ev's in the analysis. I've been tinkering around with a more bulky approach but it hasn't been as useful as this one, mainly due to a lack of power. Timid cause Mismagius likes her speed, and Leftovers to help recover residual and Substitute damage.

Well there's the team! I hope you all enjoyed. Rates are most welcome. And remember, next time, vote Hitmonlee out of UU!

Waking up and feel like kicking ass huh?

The team looks awesome but I have a slight nitpick. Why don't you run max HP on Sceptile? It gains some much needed bulk, and it can actually set up on some bulky waters. Sure the extra power loss sucks, but overgrow range usually beefs up Leaf Storm to acceptable levels right? The only advantage to running Max Spa is that you get to 2HKO Venusaur. I suppose that's something I guess, but I much prefer to extra bulk.

Edit: Never mind. I was looking at the new Sceptile Update prefers to run max special attack and max speed. Still it gives mention to running 56 Hp / 196 SpA / 252 for a bulkier approach and the ability to still 2HKO offensive Venusaur.

That's all I got Thund. Good luck!

From personal experience from both battling and using that sceptile set max sp atk is in need beneficail. It lets you rape grass types wanting to stop the seeding while once you get the seeding going the bulk is pointless as you are just stalling them out. I was wondering if you ever miss the speed on hitmonlee as he loses to base 80s right. Although the power is incredible with adamant.
Edit Why not run enough speed on milo to troll torterra?

@PK-I actually also run just 7 HP iv's like the update suggests. This is so Sceptile can creating a longer chain of Substitutes by gaining an overall more percentage of health.

@Fiction-I usually do that, but with Arcanine + Sceppy I didn't really really feel the need in lowering Milo's bulk. On Lee, I don't really miss the Speed because Milo rapes Blaziken anyway and I won't keep a Hitmonlee in on Venusaur, not to mention that Adamant is needed to assure some KO's.

Thanks for the rates. ^^

Sup Thund,

Pretty decent team. I see a huge Zam weakness, though. It 1-2HKOs every Pokemon on your team barring Milotic, who is still 2HKOed with a bit of prior damage, which is not hard to attain considering you rely on it to check plenty of threats. So, a small change will make dealing with Zam much easier, namely addaing U-Turn to Mesprits moveset, at the cost of one of Healing Wish or Grass Knot. U-Turn deals plenty of damage to Zam, and Mesprits' natural bulk ensures that you get in a Pokemon safely. You could also use a Quiet nature to allow you to get the upper hand against opposing Mesprit.

Adamant seems to work well with your Lee, but you could go Jolly + Life Orb to maintain similar power, but more importantly, get the jump on Modest Moltres, SubRoost Articuno, Toxicroak, and the whole slew of positive base 80's, particularly Venusaur. You do lose the surprise factor, so you could revert back to Black Belt, as CC still does a truckload to Registeel, and is KOed with a bit of prior damage.

Nice team man, gotta love old school Missy:) Gl.

Thanks for the rate IB. Yeah Zam is a problem to any team without Spiritomb pretty much. Luckily my Milo isn't 2HKO'd so it can usually take it out. Sceptile can go for the Speed tie if I'm ballsy, while if I'm desperate Missy can take a hit and KO back. But I usually just end up killing it with priority with Arcanine and Hitmonlee cause they think it's scarfed.

You basically listed why I use Black Belt + Adamant. :) Get's the needed KO's and has the surprise factor. Not to mention LO wears down the already frail Lee. Switching into Seismic Toss/Iron Head on a mispredict already does like 40+, don't want Lee going emo and killing himself here ;_; lol.

Personally I would put Choice Scarf on Hitmonlee. It allows it to act as a VERY effective revenge killer. blaze kick would be a good addition to hitmonlee, allowing it to hit more types effectively. if you don't want that, you can give it a choice band, to allow it to pack a MASSIVE punch. life orb is alright though, but IMO black belt just doesn't pack a hard enough punch.

personally i think sceptile needs more bulk for its subseeding chain, unless you want to change it into a sweeper.

overall, its just a very solid team, gl!

Hi Thund,

Nice to see you stick to your annoying theme =P. I would like to point out that a Mix Venusaur will be somewhat problematic for you, since its not very difficult to predict the switch out on Milotic and Sludge Bomb will nail Arcanine for hard damage. If Arcanine has taken any prior damage, you'll have a fair amount of difficulty taking it down. My first suggestion is going for a simple 252/252 spread on Mesprit at a Timid nature. This allows you to tie with Base 80's, most notably Venusaur who you'll need to switch into if Arcanine is in trouble. The Speed ensures you have a chance to snag to OHKO on Venusaur before it places you to Sleep or hits you again. The Speed is always nice.

Adamant is actually needed on Hitmonlee people, and he needs the freedom as written on Thund's descriptions. It helps a lot when someone crucial switches in (Spiritomb), as it allows Hitmonlee to damage it for hard damage. With Spiritomb lured in and beat, Mismagius will pretty much guarantee a lategame sweep without any major barricade. Just getting that out of the way.

As for other options, I'd look to ditch those Attack EVs on Arcanine and locate them to Defense. This is especially helpful against the likes of Swellow, who really troubles a portion of your team without a proper resist. Arcanine will be your initial switch in and you need all the bulk you need to take Facade or Brave Bird. This is just to name a few, but it will help give your team a defensive pivot for switching into physical attackers since Milotic does not enjoy taking all the focus. overall gl.

Hai Thund,

My god, this team is scary... and without your "gimmicks" (for the most part .. ) changing the play style of the team completely, I can't really criticize it as much as I wish I could D: By the way, when did Hitmonlee become so popular? o_o

----

Aaaaanyway, I can see a weakness to Substitute + Pain Split Rotom; it can easily set up a Sub on Hitmonlee and if you sacrifice it to Sucker Punch the Substitute, Registeel walls Mismagius all day - Arcanine risks Thunder Wave screwing it up.

There are two things on your team that can revenge kill this Rotom: Arcanine and Sceptile. Arcanine sustains heavy damage from Life Orb STAB, but not enough to outright KO. Stealth Rock does a number on it too. Although Arcanine can kill Rotom you're basically crippling it. So that leaves us to Sceptile. Unless you sac something to get it in safely Sceptile is coming in on Pain Split or Thunderbolt, both of which will sting. I recommend you use Synthesis > Hidden Power [Ice] on Sceptile, because I don't see Grass-types being much of a problem as Arcanine and Mesprit will destroy everything that toes out of line.

----

GL with the team, Thund.

Oh, and I'm stealing that Hitmonlee set >:D *nomnomnom*

I see a huge weakness to fast sweepers, especially Alakazam and Swellow. They should be countered by Milotic and Arcanine (with extreeme speed) but both of them can't switch in more than once on their hits. If Milotic has taken prior damage it can be easily taken out with a psychic or a boosted facade and the same thing can be said for arcanine if it switches into one of these moves. Alakazam with substitute (a common set this days) can shrug off hitmonlee sucker punches while swellow can scout with U-Turn and sweep when it's main counter has been killed.
Personally I think Sub-Seed Sceptile is not necessary to this team as not as effective as it was in the old days so I would replace him with Spiritomb.
Spiritomb is able to counter alakazam and other scarfed pokémon very well plus it is even able to handle swellow with enough bulkyness.

This said, it is a very good and balanced team.

@Franky-THANK YOU!!!! lol Finally someone gets why Hitmonlee is Adamant and has Black Belt (which totally wrecks btw gaiz ;D)

Yeah Mix Venu can get annoying. I might make Arcanine more defensive so it can take hits better, he doesn't really need the attack anyway (although then Extremespeed's damage is kinda pathetic. ;_;). Know any good mixed defensive spreads?? I'd use specially defensive but as you said Swellow can get annoying as well. I'd rather not make Mesprit fast because it loses a shitload of bulk and can't take a CB Scyther's U-turn anymore to set up SR (as a lead, just an example).

@Power-You better not jack that set dawg!!! lol jk ;) Feel free to kick ass with it. ^^

Rotom hasn't been a huge problem because it can't really set up on anything. Even Milotic's Surf can 2HKO it. If I somehow let it get a Sub up it can get mildly annoying, but nothing my team can't already handle. And Sceptile NEEDS Hidden Power Ice! lol being walled by Grass-types suck and I cant count on Arcanine to continue handling them on his own with that SR weak! (:

@Uncommon-I know! It can get annoying! The thing is is that Spiritomb doesn't really aid Mismagius's sweep at all, while Sceptile can lure in one of its main counters and weaken it, on top of being a nice revenge killer with its high Speed and weakening teams with the SubSeed strategy. Sure Spiritomb might be able to defeat those threats but I lose momentum by just trying to counter them instead of continuing my game plan. Swellow isn't as annoying as Zam so I might try to fit something in that spot that can handle him, since Speed tying with Sceppy isn't really my thing...

Thanks for the rates all!!! ;D

woooah SubCM Missy that's hella old school. However much I may like CM Missy, why not just go straight up NP? Since you're using it as a late game sweeper, CM shouldn't be necessary right? And if Spiritomb happens to not be so weakened (saved until late game, Hipmonlee fucks up and misses with Stone Edge {which happens like every other time}, etc), you can just one shot it after a boost.
And as much as you may protest otherwise, I ALWAYS think Jolly LO is best. He may kill himself faster than an emo at a funeral, but outspeeding Venusaur and Toxicroak and 2KOing Venusaur ( Croak is a bitch and survives, and sets up btw) is better than the surprise factor imo (especially since, why would anyone ever use ScarfLee?). But if you insist on Adamant, go ahead. Good team.
