this is my first real attempt at a competitive team and i would like to know what you think

Starmie @ Expert Belt
Ability: Natural Cure
Modest; 252 SpA / 252 Spd / 6 HP

Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Surf
Psychic

A great lead has great type coverage but need to switch out against electrics, in which case i go to my Gliscor to absorb the attack

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Ability: Hyper-cutter
Jolly; 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe

Earth quake
Swords Dance
Baton Pass
Roost

the baton passer of the team. All pretty self explanatory. Stat up then pass, roost to recover. will either pass to TTar or Luke. eq incase it is my only pokemon left.

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sandstorm
Adamant; 252 HP / 252 Atk

Aqua tail
Crunch
Stone Edge
Earthquake

Massively powerful especially with the stat boost. sets up a sand storm for resedual damage, which 4 out of 6 of my pokes are immune to.

Lucario @ life orb
Ability: inner focus
Adamant: 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Crunch
Extreme speed
Close combat
Swords dance

Pretty much the standard set, swords dance as a back up plan if the pass fails or goes to t-tar

Heatran @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
Modest; 40 Hp / 252 Spa / 216 Spe

Earth Power
Dragon Pulse
Explosion
Overheat

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Modest/Timid: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Hypnosis
Focus Blast

these last to not part of a strategy as such, just there to rack up as much damage as possible

Rate, criticize, advise, whatever

Since you are planning on passing SD boosts to Lucario or Tyranitar, I suggest changing their sets up. I suggest Tyranitar should run Rock Polish, to patch up that poor speed, use Life Orb or Leftovers instead of CB. Lucario can run Agility > SD since +4 is overkill on most opponents, and Gliscor is easier to set up anyways.

3. Have some actual words in your post beyond your six Pokemon and their moves. Not following this makes your post quite boring to read and rate. All Pokemon should have a good reason for being in your team anyway, so why not post that reason? If you're having trouble with this one, start by giving an explanation for each team member. Why are they there? What role do they serve? How do you get them in? Then, give an explanation of how you would open with the team and how you would go about using it. All of these things help people rate your team and allow us to offer more helpful advice.

Furthermore I think it is imperative you read this thread
