If its not broken don't fix it [Weather-less RMT]

If its not broken don't fix it [Weather-less RMT]

The team building process

The team started off with a fire, water, grass core. In this core i wanted a Stealth Rock user, a Rapid Spinner, and a status inducer. The three I landed on where the ever common specially defensive Heatran, The standard Breloom set and a Starmie. After I established the core I concentrated on filling the blanks, i.e creating a good defensive synergy. I was trying out a Skarmory and found that having the damaging hazards and 2 different forms of fazing, while at the same time having relatively good synergy as a pair, was a great thing and I knew then that i would have a Heatran and Skarmory core. Next I added a Dragon, as most teams run them now and they counter each other very well on the presumption its a blind switch. I went with Dragonite as my team only has 2 walls which is unlike me, so i substituted in the bulkier dragon in the OU metagame. Lastly I needed a choice scarfed pokemon that has a stab I am currently lacking. I tried out a Mamoswine but quickly found out that as a scarfer is easy to predict and just as easy to counter due to its lack of scouting. Scizor lacks the raw power and the base speed to pull off a successful scarfer and is better off banded, before long i realized that Landorus fitted my bill, with its scouting ability and power v.s popular enemy sand teams. Also I would just like to say this is my first RMT, I am not a fan of weather teams, also I am not only open to criticism I am both expecting and wanting it.

Breloom

286.gif

Name: Thumper
Nature: Carefull
Trait: Poison Heal
EV's: 236 HP, 196 SpcD, 76 Spd
Item: Toxic Orb
Moveset: Drain Punch , Seed Bomb, Bulk Up, Spore
This is a Bulk Up Breloom set which uses pokemon such as Ferrothorn and bulky waters as set up fodder, EV'd to take the special hits they commonly carry, aswell as helping this team with scarfed Rotoms. Thumper is the grass component to my simple fire water grass core. Its hard to say what pokemon Breloom has good synergy with because of its paper thin defenses, I try and make sure breloom takes as little damage as possible, and use the poison heal to shrug off enemy hazard damage if Starmie doesn't get an importunity to Rapid Spin. The Bulk Up set has been tested and has been successful, the set was created and approved by(MojoMonke, Charlie Scene and BKC)

Starmie

121.gif

Name: N.D.S (Ninja Death Star)
Nature: Timid
Trait: Natural Cure
EV's: 252 SpA, 252 Spd, 4 SpcD
Item: Life Orb
Moveset: Hydro Pump, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Rapid Spin
You may be beginning to understand why these team is called "If its not broken don't fix it" and that it is because as far as the move-sets go, they are all pretty much standard, what I am hoping to accomplish here is to share the combination of pokemon as-well as some EV spreads which have done me justice. N.D.S is the water component to my fire water grass core. This Starmie does what most Starmies do which is to have stab and boltbeam combination for good coverage and a support move such as rapid spin or recover, rapid spin was not necessary for my team, but sure did help Dragonite do his job a little better. I have considered changing Starmie out for a Tentacruel, for addition hazards, the same Rapid Spinning capabilities and balancing out the emount defense with the offense, let me know what you guys think.

Heatran

485.gif

Name: Waka Floka
Nature: Calm
Trait: Flash Fire
EV's: 248 HP, 248 SpcD, 12 Spd
Item: Leftovers
Moveset: Lava Plume, Protect ,Stealth Rock ,Roar
This standard Heatran set has seen a lot of action in the past month at least and for a good reason, It has great typing and great base stats, baring speed. Mostly used to get my Stealth Rocks up and start fazing pokes around, really handy on sun teams aswell. Also great news for Skarmory can absorb the super effective fire attacks, and seen as a lot of the electric attacks being fired around are special and not even boosted by stab (with the exception of Rotom-W) Waka Flocka is the fire component to my fire water grass core. Protect has been recently subbed for Earth Power as I will not be using my own Heatran to take out other people's. Thanks to(BKC)

Dragonite

149.gif

Name: Bo Rai Cho
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Multiscale
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 SpcD
Item: Lum Berry
MoveSet: Outrage, Dragon Dance ,Earthquake ,Fire Punch
Dragonite is my "set-up sweeper" After one Dragon Dance he can out-speed and o.k a lot of pokemon the choice to run earthquake over Extreme Speed is to kill opposing Heatrans, Metagrosses and Jirachis that could threaten my sweep, this may be subject to change depending on the feedback. Overall you can go wrong with Dragonite as a sweeper in this generation with the new dream world ability Multiscale and is a great addition to my team.

Skarmory

227.gif

Name: Polly
Nature: Impish
Trait: Sturdy
EV's: 248 Hp, 244 Def, 16 Spd
Item: Leftovers
Moveset: Brave Bird, Spikes, Roost, Whirlwind
Skarmory is one of, if not the best defensive wall in today's meta-game baring being put to sleep Skarmory usually manages to set all 3 layers of spikes and faze once or twice. He seams almost irreplaceable at this point, as Ferrothorn could do a similar job, but is a lot more likely than Skarmory to be set-up fodder with its lack of fazing and recovery. I was considering putting them 16 Spd EV's to better use and running taunt, but i wouldn't know which move to substitute.

Landorus

645.gif

Name: SR-71
Nature: Naive
Trait: Sand Force
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 SpA
IV's: 30HP, 31Atk, 30Def, 31SpA, 31SpcD, 31Spd
Item: Choice Scarf
Moveset: Earthquake ,Stone Edge ,Hidden Power(Ice) ,U-Turn
Landorus Completes my team as the common scouting scarfer that if you ask me, this team needed, Landorus often finds himself U-Turning a lot at the start of the battle, wont see much action, and will come back at the end to finish what he started with a few Earthquakes. I was considering running a Smackdown as I think its a great set, but a scarfer was definitly needed for this team to function. After some helpful RMT's the nature has been changed to Naive to make an adequate revenge killer and outspeed base 100's after +1

Final Say + Changes

I have enjoyed making this RMT and am looking forward to any responses it receives. I hope it wasn't god awful, thanks for taking the time to have a look. The Landorus's nature has been changed to Naive (Advice given by Charlie Scene + Haunter) to make him a more reliable revenge killer as far as speed is concerned. The advice i have received is to try out a bulkier Bulk Up set on Breloom, which turned out to work wonders (MojoMonke) and a calm mind Slowbro (Tomahawk9) which didn't pan out to good and was often used as status fodder, I also found I was missing Rapid Spin. I have tried each of these changes separately and then as a pair, I am a bit on the edge about using a forretress, not done me much justice in the past, however i am looking in the best interest of the team.

Wont be able to reply to any comments for maybe 7 hours i made this just as i'm going to bed. Also reserving for threat list.

I recommend running the bulk up set on breloom because it really helps with his paper thin defenses.

The set:
Breloom@ toxic orb
Nature: careful
Ability: poison heal
Evs: 236 hp, 212 spD, 60 spd
Moves:
Bulk up
Drain punch
Seed bomb
Spore.

Hey

I give you a quick rate for your team. First off Volcarona can easily demolish your team if it sets up and is carrying HP Ground. Nothing on your team bar Dragonite can fight against a +1 Hidden Power Ground Volcarona without taking massive damage. An easy way to patch up this weakness is just to change Landorus's nature to Naive. This will let you outpace Volcarona and OHKO with Stone Edge.

Also consider changing Breloom to a Bulk Up Breloom. This will help you break Rotom-W/Scizor/Landorus cores. It will also give your Breloom more bulk which helps on a team like yours. The above poster has the set for you to use.

Summary
-Change the nature on Landorus to Naive.
-Change Breloom's set to a Bulk Up set.

Are you sure having a posotive speed nature when scarfed is a good idea? wont he become noticeably week? i will test both of your suggestions and let you know how they get on, looking forward to trying out a bulk up breloom, never used one before.

Yes, it's an extremely good idea. Without a +Spe nature you won't be able to outspeed +1 base 100 Spe (i.e. Volcarona, Salamence, scarf-Jirachi and others) making your Landorus a mediocre revenge killer. The loss in power from naughty to naive is negligible while the benefits of outrunning the above mentioned threats are noticeable.

Rock Polish Terrakion or SubSD Terrakion can cause some trouble. After a Rock Polish it outspeeds and KOes everything on your team, bar Skarmory. The best Skarmory can do though is phazing out Terrakion, who thanks to his Stealth Rock resistances doesn't care that much about being phazed out. Also, if Terrakion decides to Swords Dance while you switch in your Skarmory, it is OHKOed by a +2 Close Combat or a +2 Rock Gem Stone Edge. If Terrakion is the last Pokemon, Skarmory can't phaze it out, meaning Terrakion can 2HKO with Close Combat, while Skarmory does about 60% vs a -1 Terrakion. The rest of your team will then fall to Close Combat / Stone Edge easily with some residual damage (Landorus takes ~80% from Stone Edge, Dragonite takes ~70% from Stone Edge with Multiscale, so Stealth Rock should be enough unless you never switch in Landorus before). Choice Band Terrakion can also just spam powerful Stone Edges which 2HKOes everything on your team, and the only ones not OHKOed (but 2HKOed) by it are Breloom and Skarmory. Since they don't outspeed Terrakion, every time Terrakion comes in on Dragonite, Heatran, Landorus locked in Stone Edge or Hidden Power Ice, or Breloom or Skarmory below 60%, you have to sac something.
Calm Mind Reuniclus can beat you quite easily after you have activated Sleep Clause. By forcing out Skarmory, Landorus, or Breloom it can set up a Calm Mind. After a Calm Mind, you'll have trouble taking it on. Dragonite misses out on 2HKOing Reuniclus with Outrage and Reuniclus itself can 2HKO Dragonite with a +1 Psychic if Multiscale isn't activated. Landorus won't be able to do more than 40% unless it crits, so it's actually setup fodder for a well-played Reuniclus (alternating Calm Mind and Recover), and can then take out Landorus once it has enough Calm Minds. Starmie does ~40% with Hydro Pump vs a +1 Reuniclus, so Starmie is setup fodder as well, letting Reuniclus set up more Calm Minds and take less and less damage.
Swords Dance Lucario can dance up against Landorus locked in anything but Earthquake, Breloom without a Sub up and Sleep Clause activated, or Heatran and sweep your team. Skarmory isn't a reliable counter because it's still KOed by a +2 Close Combat after Stealth Rock, and so are Breloom and Heatran. Starmie and Landorus both fall to ExtremeSpeed, while Dragonite is swiftly taken out by Ice Punch or Stone Edge.

What I suggest is using a Calm Mind Slowbro over Starmie. While it might seem like a gimmick, it's actually surprisingly good with Regenerator and Slack Off, as well as STAB Scald and Psyshock. It also beats Terrakion and Lucario thanks to its great physical bulk and resistances, and can use either Scald or Psyshock to take them out. Reuniclus is set up on with Calm Mind and a resistance to both Psychic and Focus Blast, and once completely set up you can hit Reuniclus with a powerful Psyshock on its now weak Defense stat. The exact set is:

080-a.png
Slowbro @ Leftovers | Regenerator
Bold | 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Calm Mind / Scald / Psyshock / Recover

Now, you lose the Rapid Spin support from Starmie which is unfortunate for Dragonite and pretty much your whole team. Therefore, something worth considering is using Forretress > Skarmory. It still sets up Spikes reliably, provides a Dragon resistances, but is also able to Rapid Spin to clear your side from hazards. The exact set is:

205-a.png
Forretress @ Leftovers | Sturdy
Relaxed | 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Spikes / Rapid Spin / Gyro Ball / Volt Switch

I also agree with the other posters about using Naive on Landorus. Not being able to outspeed Salamence, Volcarona, and other base 100s is much more important than the slight increase in power. I also agree with using Bulk Up Breloom. Not only does it help against Volt-Turning, but it also provides you with a more solid defense against powerful Drizzle teams.

Good luck with the team!

Thanks everyone for the RMT's. I am going to jump into P.O ASAP and try out these changes and see how I do. I will be giving my feedback shortly.

Definitely go with a specially defensive Bulk Up Breloom over your current set. It'll help you alot when tanking Volt Switches from Rotom-W or HP Ices from Landorus, both of whom are staples on Volt-Turning teams. It also helps immensely against Drizzle teams, whose Ferrothorn is free setup fodder (just be careful not to switch into a Thunder Wave before your Toxic Orb is activated!) and struggle to harm it after a boost. I prefer an EV spread of 216 HP / 216 SDef / 76 Spd [Careful nature, Spore | Bulk Up | Seed Bomb | Drain Punch], for a jump point in SpD and enough speed to beat opposing specially defensive Heatran. Speaking of SpD Tran, try running Protect > Earth Power on yours. You don't need to hit other Heatran, you've got Starmie and Landorus. Protect, on the other hand, is extremely effective at making up for Heatran's lack of instant recovery, and is a solid scouting tool against choiced Pokemon such as Specs Latios or opposing Scarf Landorus.

Boosting Terrakion isn't that big a threat imo, it's only going to get one kind of boost. If it Rock Polishes, Skarm can delay its sweep, and then it's up to you to re-gain momentum and not allow Terrak any setup opportunity. Hell, if Landorus is at high health, it can even tank a hit and then OHKO it back. If Terrak uses Swords Dance as its boosting move of choice, both Starmie and Landorus can check it. Choice Band variants 2HKO every one of your Pokemon, but that's true for alot of teams...you'll have to play smart and limit its free switch-ins as much as possible. GL with the team, hope this helped.

Thanks BKC ill definitely take your advice on the Heatran using protect, you have a very valid point and will work great to scout choicers. May i ask why you suggested moving a few more EV's into speed as appose to the set mentioned above. thanks again.
