Thanks to this thread, I was prompted to do research and learn that "Gyllenhaal" is pronounced with a soft g rather than a hard g.

Now I just need to figure out whether the same goes for "Jake"!

I thought that was obvious, but maybe that's just the swede in me
A lot of American last names will confuse me because they'll take a bavarian or nordic or eastern european last name and then americanize it in a weird way and I don't know how to pronounce it. I've seen this the other way too.

I think there's just something about the "y" that tripped me up. The letter is sometimes kind of an "i" sound and sometimes not so my brain short circuited when guessing how to pronounce it.

I also thought that "gill" was cooler because he could be sound like some sort of Louisiana swamp monster so I was secretly hoping it was a hard g.
